HOW TO HIT A CORNER LIKE A PRO!!
Ойын-сауық
Bikes seem to have taken off in this lockdown and its so cool to see. Maybe one of the best things to come from this tough time. Just wanted to give you guys a few little tips on what I feel is the most fun thing to do on a mountain bike, hit corners. Here are a few easy tricks and tips too hit a berm and a rut safer and faster. No jumping off roof tops or building dirt jumps in this video just a few easy things to take away and try yourself as home. Good luck guys and let me no if its helped you go faster on your bike.

Little tip: keep making vids like these! Every time you give tips to anyone we use 'em on the trails afterwards. I practiced the tips you gave Mike Levy on Pinkbike and it upped my technique by a solid gap. Love u broski great job!

"Lot safer, and more importantly lot faster" - that's how you become a PRO :D
Yay! Some 'how to' vids - nice one Brendan ... keep these pearls of wisdom coming, they're helping us mere mortals have more confidence and ride safer on the trails. I've had 3 'offs' in the past 3 weeks and as I'm in my mid 50's it doesn't half make your body zing and takes sooo much longer to recover than 20 years ago. Loving your channel and learning a lot, cheers man!
"Rutts are not as predictable". My thoughts exactly! I always pap myself more on rutts, so easy to lose it out the top!

That is where looking ahead (almost uncomfortably) helps, huh. Such a balance between looking "through" the corner. Look too far out of the rut and toward the next corner and you begin to straight-line/chord the turn...but some of the best riders I know are so in tune with their machine that the last 1/3 of the corner is muscle memory based on the next corner.
Great demonstration and analysis... you really should do more tutorials. I’d love to hear your thoughts and demos on jumps, manuals, etc, etc...
Yeah man there are bikes everywhere right now it’s mint seeing the little kids out there so much!... keep it up people! & Brendog it’s been mint on lockdown watching all the vids of you & other riders entertaining us all!..... that “brad” effect of you guys as you hit & exit burns is ausome could watch it all day!.... take it easy all ✌️
Thanks Brendan! I think of all the MTB vloggers, you got the best tunes!! ;)
He's such a good teacher. That is really helpful!
Cheers Bren. After this I've realised my slowest time-sucking turns are mostly flat corners with ruts and I've been looking to hit them like a berm with flat feet. Will try shifting weight and dropping outside foot. And your upper body position is much more "square on" to the bike. Food for thought, so thanks.
Thanks for the tips Brendan! Loved it.
I grew up racing moto and just getting into mtb. There's no better feeling than a sick corner. Thanks for the videos and I can't wait to see sam pilgrim and matt Jones at your house 😎

every pro or instructor always says 'this is how you corner' and they usually show the bike aggressively angulated down with rider on top. i watch a lot of top riders (friends on rides and pros in videos) and a few ride like this but most don't. most are somewhere in between and some can lean the bike far and still not wash out. Brendan understands this!! mind blown.
Thank you man Helps a lot :)

Good tutorial!!! Fast ride) enjoy one ☝
A vid I watched covered a major important point that, when done. Gets your knees, shoulder, and head, all aiming in the correct direction. Video is also a key item, so you can actually see how well you are doing it, and you can watch your progression. Question when you're in a turn and the bike slides out from under you, and you slam into the ground. What caused it? When riding straight, only the center of the tire is used, so what are those lugs on the outside for? Ok. The answer. We need to learn to lean the bike over through the turns. So when the bike slides, we stay on and slide with it vs the bike sliding out from underneath us. When we lean the bike, the big outside lugs get to dig in. When leaning, all of a sudden, your body position changes, causing your knees to aim in the correct direction. One arm will go straight, and the other will bend. All these body positions just happen. It is not something we force. What we force is learning to lay the bike over in heavy leans. Your outside pedal will be down gravity will be driving the inside lugs into the ground. Bingo, you now are shredding turns.
Great video Brendan. I noticed on the first slo-mo 2:31 of how to ride the rut that you pedaled backwards to set your feet up for the next rut. I do this sometimes and always think that I am doing something incorrectly because pedaling forward doesn't always seem like the safest thing to do but just figured I was inexperienced and couldn't set up the corners correctly. Could you talk about this a little?
Cheers Brendog. I think all my videos on my channel are me falling off i could do with the tips! Keep then coming.

Love the vid Brendan. Quick question about looking ahead: How far ahead are you looking on the trail? I've been trying to practice looking ahead and keeping my head up but it's hard at high speed when my eyes just want to go the obstacle or jump that the front wheel is about to roll over. Does becoming comfortable looking further ahead on the trail something that just comes with practice or is there something I should be doing differently? I always feel a little fearful to look too far ahead as I might miss something I'm about to roll over and have it toss me off the bike. Cheers, keep up the great vids
Thank you Dog! :) Awsome video!

Awesome. Thanks for that! I kinda do these things, so that's good to hear. But, here's what I don't understand: how do you guys "snap" your bike into (or exit) a turn like that? Is that just the speed you're carrying? Looks so fast and aggressive. And cool of course :) I want that too!

YES exactly, he says "keep your shoulders opposite your bars" but this is poor technique and he doesn't do what he is teaching. He does clearly extend one arm more than the other depending on his turns.

So awesome. Thanks @Brendan Fairclough! Q: Do you actively push out of the berm or are you resisting the weight transfer? (Looks like in a few turns you short hop through the apex) - My timing is not correct, is why I ask.
@BrendanFairclough
4 жыл бұрын
Try keep your weight centred if not a little more over the front. Hanging off the back is the worst thing you can do in a corner. Leaning off the back will make the front wheel light and loose grip.

@@BrendanFairclough Thanks for taking the time to reply... cheers! So say I have my weight in the perfect spot, I see at 0:04 you are like stomping down and popping in the berm apex? Is this only because the berm is small? - Do you push out of bigger, longer berms? Sorry for the rambling question.

Normal cornering and cutties are different, if you want to pop out of the corner with a cuttie think of the corner like a roller in a pumptrack, get low going in and pop out coming out.
