How to Hike to Mariposa Grove, Yosemite National Park (4k)

Mariposa Grove is located in Yosemite National Park and is home to over 500 giant sequoias. To get to the grove, you can hike down the Washburn Trail located at the end of the parking lot, walk down the Mariposa Grove Rd., or take the free shuttle from the parking lot to the first grove (saving you from hiking 4 miles). The past couple years the shuttle has no been running, so be sure to check out the National Park Service's website if using this option. the www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisi...
Once at the grove, there are several different loops ranging from easy to strenuous with various different distances. In this video, we hiked down the Washburn trail to "The Bachelor and the Three Graces," to the "Grizzle Giant," and ended our journey at the "California Tunnel Tree." If you have time, it is worth hiking to the upper grove.

It was great to make their experience more memorable and include them in the video; your family was a lot of fun and the kiddos were awesome! Glad we all had the opportunity to experience the Grizzly Giant together. -Best

Is'nt there a shuttlebus from the welcome center to the start of the grove trails? If so what time does the park close?

The entire park is superb. The coast redwoods actually grow much bigger than even Grizzly Giant, and the coast is just 2 hours from us. So we opt for the closer parks with less rails and less crowds. Here's a favorite coast giant: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4Vo2JqPkrHff8o.html

Well, you cant hike or visit the Mariposa grove this year & probably next. There was a forest fire & it will be a long time before it is re opened to the public. !

Thanks for all of this info. It's a bummer that the shuttle isn't running yet. I've got family coming that aren't as spry as they used to be but have been dreaming of seeing the sequioas for decades. Your footage is reassuring that the trail looks doable for them (with breaks). From what you've seen, do you think it be reasonable to go up Washburn Trail and down Mariposa Grove Rd?

Hi there! Definitely saw all sorts of folks with various skill levels hike the trail. The two mile hike has a 500’ elevation gain and there is one section that has a steady climb, but with breaks it’s definitely doable. On the way back, walking down the road will definitely be easier. If you are looking to hike to the Grizzly Giant and California Tunnel Tree, it is an additional 500’ elevation gain; though doesn’t feel like it since you are constantly distracted by the beauty around you. Happy trails!

Awesome video, we’ll be visiting Yosemite the 3rd week of March 2022, your videography is fabulous, I’ve been practicing skipping along youthfully 😅 If you don’t mind the question, your outfits are very cool, can you possibly share the brand names of your clothing? Thanks for sharing, I’m off to your next video. 🏃‍♂️

Hey Daniel, I am planning to go to Yosemite last week of March 2022 :) Would you by any chance know if we will experience heavy snowing? Will there be the need to drive with a 4x4 or use tire chains? Would love to hear your thoughts cos I have zero experience driving in snow...

@@lorrainelai Well it was snowing last week in the Yosemite Valley, and while I’ve never visited Yosemite in the snow, I do know carrying chains is required in the Big Bear area from November 1 to April 30, whether they’re needed or not. So I’ll be carrying chains, even though I drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle, because I’m assuming I’ll be required to do so. Two wheel drive vehicles are fine, if you have your chains and you take your time you’ll have no issues. When you enter the park, park rangers will give you information regarding chain use or requirements if necessary, it isn’t a big issue unless you aren’t carry chains. Have a good time, it’s one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit in your lifetime.
