Nestled in the southern, less-visited part of Yosemite National Park, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias hike takes you on a tour through a grove of 500 mature Giant Sequoia trees, including some that are 2,000 years old. The Mariposa Grove was first protected by Abraham Lincoln in 1864, added as a National Park in 1906, and in 2019 reopened after an extensive restoration. The 7 mile Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias Trail hits all of the major attractions in the grove. It’s got a little bit of uphill, but in general, is pretty easy and offers great scenery for the effort.

Very well prepared & the way you guided us was perfect. I appreciate the tour & information especially going very early. I only could imagine how quiet it was and listening to nature at its best. You said it perfect, It’s Spiritual. We appreciate this video😉👍

HG..I believe we are of kindred spirit...Zero people on trail will give you the very best experience! We look for solitude in a very busy world...Looks like you got lucky! AS ALWAYS..love the TBT and commentary on when where and how to have the very best experience on this trail! Thanks again for ALL that you do for your community of fellow hikers that reach out for those places that we all long for....... peaceful solitude in God's wilderness!

Ahh well thank you so much for the kind words and glad you enjoy the guides. And yes, a trail at sunrise all alone is a vastly different experience than sharing it with tour bus groups, which happens here. Whenever I can, I get out at sunrise as a general rule. Much nicer overall. Happy hiking!

Great hiking video thank you. A question for you, any tips on getting passes to yosemite? The website is sold out every day it seems.

Good question - I've heard nothing but bad things about the process but I'd recommend trying at 659am PST so you can hit the 7am sale time. Or try to get accommodation (which I did at Curry this year).

Great Video! I read there are no shuttles this summer (2020) and the parking lot by the trailhead is for handicap only, can you confirm?

  • @Hikingguy

No shuttles in 2020 but if you get their early (before 630ish) the gate is usually open and you can drive to the trailhead. Did it that way this July

Hey there! We are heading to yosemite this weekend and would like to do the mariposa grove trail. My question is, we are staying at yosemite west and would like to do this trail first thing in the morning, is there a place to watch the sunrise near the trail before we do it? also, is it still true is we get there before 7:30 we can park at the trail head? Thanks for any help you can offer!

The best place for a sunrise is probably the high point on the trail, otherwise not a lot of east viewpoints in this area. And yes you can park at the trailhead if you get there early, generally 730 but they might close if it fills before then.

Nice grove, but somewhat open and vacant. We're near the coast, which is thick, with coast redwoods even larger. Like this new coast discovery > kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4Vo2JqPkrHff8o.html
