HOW TO - High Clearance "Viper" Front Bumper Cut | 3rd Gen Tacoma

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this how to video I am doing the "Viper" or "High Clearance" bumper cut on my 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Off Road. This Tacoma front bumper cut will allow for more clearance while off road and a more aggressive look for your 3rd gen tacoma.
This is definitely a sketchy mod to do, but it's always fun to chop up a $40k truck. Doing the Tacoma front bumper cut isn't as hard as it seems, and I hope this video helps give you the confidence you need to do it!
For those wondering about the name, it's called the Tacoma Viper Cut because the curved shape somewhat resembles the fang of a viper. Most people simply know this as the tacoma high clearance bumper cut, but I think viper cut sounds cooler lol
If you have any questions, please drop a comment and I'll get back to you.
THANKS FOR WATCHING! If you enjoyed the video, please drop a like & subscribe.

CAUTION: you MUST wear safety goggles to do this. I had a disc break and hit me in the face, but I was wearing my safety goggles so I was fine.
Also, cut your bumper AT YOUR OWN RISK. There's ample opportunity to hurt yourself (or your truck) since you're working with a high-powered mini-saw.

Just a tip.. I’d suggest placing the masking on the part that you want to retain (I.e. the truck) rather than the bit you’re chopping off. Sure it’s useful to place your marks on, but it’s there to protect the truck during the cutting..

Just did a quick highway drive (75mph or so) and didn't notice any extra noise. The roof rack with traction boards & plano case make for quite a bit of wind noise so that likely drowned out any noise from the fender liner flapping, if it did.

First off, you are crazy for cutting up your nice bumper. for the frontier, that would be an ideal solution for adding 33's or 35's. could the liner melt enough to pop in then measure it to fit the edges then cut? it does look aggressive from the front.

haha well cutting your bumper would technically void your bumper warranty I'd suppose... meaning that once you cut the bumper, you can't go to Toyota asking for a new bumper unless something else was wrong with it. However if there is something else wrong with the bumper that can't be linked to the cut, then you'd probably be okay. Maybe worth calling your dealer to ask any specific questions as these are just my guesses/opinion.

They're the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I actually just did a long term review of them if you're interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHVkvKZunLbfaMY.html

What is that tow hook in the front?!? I want one!

It's the stock tow hook that comes on the TRD Off Road Tacomas. I have another video where I painted the hook and the skid as they're both black from the factory.

That’s awesome, I didn’t know they came with hooks like that. I have a 2013 SR5 that I’d love to get something like that for it.

Zack Whitney looks cool but if I were you I’d look into a tow hook that’s rated if you do any off-roading. I don’t think the one I have is rated as a recovery point. Think it’s just considered a “tie down” point

I think if you would have folded the inner fender in would have made a cleaner look, or a least put something in there so I isn’t just open. Not sure why you just didn’t just replace the whole bumper

Yeah some people take a heat gun to the inner fender to fold it. I figured it'd be easier to just cut. I can always go back and add a cheap, custom inner fender if I feel the need. I'll likely replace the whole bumper, or part of it, in the future. In the meantime, this is just a cool mod to do to get a slightly more aggressive look and some extra clearance. I had some rubbing up front on the inner fender that this cut solved. Thanks for watching!

    You must be thinking of a 4Runner. I think 3rd Gen 4Runner was 96-02. Here's the Tacoma Generations: 1st Gen: 95-04 2nd Gen: 05-15 3rd Gen: 16-Present Thanks for watching!

Not quite sure if you're saying it looks bad or if you're asking if I should have used a hack saw.. lol But it's a pretty common mod. I did it to get some clearance in anticipation of needing to further cut the bumper to install an aftermarket bumper down the road.
