This just works in the US where the walls are made of paper. In other regions with a solid wall its nearly impossible to do stuff like this.

Dude , exactly , thinking the same thing no way in hell I can do this with my brick walls , heck a battery drill cant even get through my old ass house .. Only thing that works is you need like a wood/ cladding wall unit that gives you space off the walls for us no paper home people.

Before anyone who doesn’t know what they’re doing attempts this, please understand he left out a lot of crucial information that may make it very difficult or impossible for you to do this. PLEASE READ before you cut holes in your wall. -in order to do this to code and have a wireless look you have to run romex behind the wall and install an outlet. Like he said, you can’t run a regular power cord through the wall. So unless you know how to fish romex and install a new outlet, you won’t be totally wireless or you’ll have to hire an electrician. -sometimes there is extra blocking in the wall that runs horizontally between the two studs, so if you have your pass through outlets above and below that blocking you won’t be able to actually fish the line through, unless you have some more specialized tools. A stud finder should be able to show you if this will be an issue, but just be aware.

Most power cords for things like tv's, game systems, and power strips are rated at a minimum of 75° C = 167F. Most new-ish cords are rated at 90° C = 194° f..... so ya, it's safe in almost every application.... unless you have a damn furnace in the wall the heat is a non issue. But warming people about electrical safety is always good 👍

Have a question. I am planning to buy a similar ikea besta tv unit(the bottom one) , not sure whether it has slots/holes on back. The only addition is one vertical drawer(4 slots) on both left and right side of the TV unit. My TV would on the besta unit and not on the wall. My power outlet position is to the left and right of the vertical drawer at bottom. I am assuming since both the TV shelf and vertical drawers will be touching the wall for safety, and there will be a screw to attach to the wall. My question is, how will I able to connect a outlet surge protector from the left/right side of vertical drawer to go back to the central tv shelf, if everything is touching the wall? Is it possible to install the ikea besta unit and vertical drawers keeping a certain distance from wall?

There is a narrow cap between the brick and dry wall but cross bars would prevent looping through cables like this. I guess it adds insulation and is cheaper than employing a plasterer who can cement over the bricks and then apply plaster smoothly.

I have two fire blocks in the wall, what kinda tubing is recommended to put the cables through? To make it easier to add cables in the future

  • @jim60631

You don’t need tubing, you just need to drill a hole through the fire block, they make long flexible drill bits for this type of installation.

These only work with drywall. Can't do the same if it's a solid/brick wall. Wish there was an easier way than having to chase through the wall!

you can build a drywall in front of your solid wall. Or build a huge cabinet around the screen, front of the wall.

Eso es fácil hacerlo en Estados Unidos, ya que todas las paredes de sus casas son en madera, pero los que no vivimos en Estados Unidos tenemos paredes de concreto y ladrillo, no se puede hacer esto como un simple bricolaje casero.

I hid my wiring for the telly, what i did was daisy chained the 240volt sockets and had new outlets behind the television….so now i have double the number of sockets…if sockets are fitted new at waist height you dont get unsightly wires to your TV..
