    Great video! Never considered that technique around the outlet. You should mention that it is very important to do this only with low voltage wiring, never with alternating current cables like the thick ones that go into the back of a desktop PC. It is also advisable to not run network cables that close to your power cable in the wall.

    On one side i love "your" walls (the US Style) because you can hide cables with ease. In good old germany with have walls out of bricks (sometimes solid ones). Hiding cables in there needs a lot of prework and is a hell of a mess...chisel a chanel, reaply wallpaper and color. You should repaint the whole wall, not just spots. we need to do everything with cable chanel on the wall surface. that looks also horrible :D On the other side, our houses are very solid and durable :)

    @@pawezawisza7436 Cost reduction mostly, but also because wood framing is more versatile and easy to work with, so you can build almost any style of home faster and drudge free. Most importantly though, they aren't built to last. Americans have the 'buy new' mentality ingrained in their entire economy. New families are tearing down homes built 50 years ago and building anew to keep up with trends.

    The traditional way works much better. Remove the plug from the wall to give yourself more space. You’ll need a simple string similar to weed eater wire. Tape that to your glow rod and fish it down the wall the same way. Have some needle nose pliers ready to pull it all out. Cut the wire from the rod and re tape the wire back to the wire to pull back through the top.

    PLEASE READ PEOPLE !! Not all cables are rated to be in-wall safe, thermal issues. This plug that he fished through the wall does NOT look in-wall rated. It may sound like it is not a big deal, but my neighbor's place literally burned to the ground due to running a non-in-wall cable for a floor lamp. And it was an insurance nightmare. This is a great video besides that - stay safe everyone.

    This page has a chart where you can see what NEC has to say: www.cablewholesale.com/support/technical_articles/cable_ratings_and_materials_and_counterfeiters.php The issue is less about the voltage and more about the ability of the actual jacket on the cable to catch fire etc. You can see that for in home use basically it is the lowest standard and goes up from there. So if it breaks NEC would depend on where your doing this and what sort of jacket the cable has. In your house with a hand full of people this is not going to really matter. In a business where you have thousands of wires and thousands of lives then it starts to matter a lot.

    You shouldn't be so harsh in your words until you know what's the case. As an example: Here in Norway we are not allowed to run our standard powercables (240V) in walls without pipes. BUT If it's 5V running from that powersupply to the camera, it's no problem at all! You run your Lancables through walls, right? Same thing here... So now you are the one who teach people bullshit ;)

    You need to stick to roofing. Been installing cameras, alarms and access control systems for 27 years. It’s low voltage cable. There’s no violation here. And I have to renew my license every two years. And in all the years they never said that this is a code violation.

  • @zeroibis

    @zeroibis

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@paulhatch6682 Actually there is code requirements for any cable when installed in walls and it is related to the material that the cable is made from. It could be that these codes do not exist for residential which I would imagine they do not. In the case of commercial installs they do exist and are very important. Cables are made of different materials and in a fire the way these materials burn is very important. You can read about jacket ratings here: www.cmple.com/learn/understanding-cable-jacket-ratings-cl-cm-cmr-and-cmp

  • @willweng305

    @@zeroibis I do commercial installation on low voltage wires, the only code kicks in after 48v. All thermostat wires, security systems are usually 12-24v, some have 4 wires with 1 group insulation. You can run wires without conduits or additional protection inside wall. There is no additional pipe required under 12v like this baby camera even for commercial. The only difference is commercial side requires fire rated sealant for all holes and penetration, to keep bugs away and other safety concerns.

  • @zeroibis

    @@willweng305 If you install CL3X eathernet in a drop sealing or in the risers it is a violation. www.cablestogo.com/learning/library/standards-specs-certs/cable-jackets These standards were developed after the jackets used in the MGM contributed to the spread of fire and the creation of toxic smoke that resulted in the deadliest fire in American history. The material the cable jacket is made out of is of critical importance to stop the spread of fire and toxic fumes. There are ratings and code requirements for what cables can be used where.
