I absolutely adore squirrels! I have a grey squirrel living in my tree and I throw it walnuts during the fall/winter months a few times a month. They pick everything clean! And now they habitually come and check my front door first thing in the morning for food, that’s how smart they are.

I feed my Charlie girl walnuts everyday I buy a bag of shelled walnuts once or twice every two weeks she also like the corn and black sunflower and I give her belvita blueberry cookies and green grapes she loves also I don’t give many peanuts they are a treat because one they aren’t nuts and two they just don’t have the vitamins and minerals she needs or they need because I feed the surrounding friends also, I save the cat food cans to use as water bowls and I bought a salt wheel they can use if they so choose! I love my squirrels 🐿 and most of all my Charlie girl whom I rehabbed from about 7 weeks thank you for your advice and the video 🙂🐿

Squirrel feeders and squirrel boxes are two different things. Is a box where a squirrel will go to eat he doesn't care where it's at or how high it is off the ground. They will not nest in a box close to the ground. So if it's a nest and it's in the wild they will build their own nest 30 feet off the ground or greater. If it's feeder box it really doesn't matter. Because a squirrel berate a bird feeder box and that's typically only six feet off the ground. But it definitely won't sleep in there. I rehabilitate squirrels so I know.

Feed the little buggers! Tip: they like shelled corn, but only eat the heart of the kernel. There are a variety of birds that like the leftovers. Doves, cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays ect. So all the critters that frequent the feeders make out. Cheers

I feed a variety of squirrels red black and grey's, my best option was to purchase deep hanging mesh baskets and short shepherds hooks so the food stays off the ground. These are right below the bird feeders and they have never bothered the feeders. Thank you for your video it has helped me confirm the types of nuts I have been feeding the squirrels.

I gather walnuts and hickory nuts for my neighborhood squirrels. There are no nut bearing trees for about a square mole from my home. The parks i gather from have so many hickory and walnut trees that i can get several gallon sized freezer bags and still leave tons for the park squirrels. I also toast all of the pumpkin seeds i can get at Halloween. They last a long time if stored correctly, and they love yhem.

I agree completely. My homeowners association bans the feeding of any animals including birds. I am willing to pay whatever fines they charge to be able to help these precious creatures. Humans always behave as though not feeding animals will make them go away. What actually happens is they dig up our gardens and break into our homes to find food. I have been feeding animals in my yard for years and my garden has never been destroyed by wildlife. One day I forgot to put food outside and and I found a squirrel hanging upside down on my screen door. Lol

I feed the birds and squirrels every day. I have a video of a squirrel that came in my window and took peanuts out of my hand. He's gone now and I miss my squirrel friend. He knocked on my door before coming in the window. When I heard one loud rap on the door, I knew it was squirrel friend. Don't worry about checking municipality in America because we the people are in charge and no municipality has any jurisdictional authority at all. Only the Bill Of Rights is absolute and supreme superior ratified law. All statutes, acts, mandates are not law, but corporate policy.

Hello friend, You are correct. As you say, during winter it's important to avoid salty foods. I never suggested feeding salted foods. In summer it may be good to offer foods that contain natural sodium to them (i.e. sunflower seeds) but it's considered junk food. I understand it can come across as I was promoting salted foods, and I apologize for that. I agree with you and mention the importance of avoiding salty foods in winter during 06:06 and in the conclusion 06:25. Thanks for helping the animals and stay safe!

As it stands, I’m probably about hovering around $50 a month in peanuts for these guys. They’re not stupid animals not buying shot they recognize people and because I think that people pay them no mind they don’t realize the behavior and yes most don’t want to be tamed, but there are some who like to Let’s say flirt with human behavior. Probably the most underrated potential pet, but most underrated wild animal because if it’s human quality, especially like giving birth, they give birth like humans on their back legs up it’s wild
