How to Help Others Effectively | A Monk's Perspective
How to Help Others Effectively | A Monk's Perspective
Thank you everyone who has followed along on this journey. Right now I have arrived safely at the Georgia Meditation Center in Atlanta. With only a few days of rest, we have hit the ground running. Our days are filled with teachings, meeting with locals, running classing, participating in ceremonies, public speaking and so on. It has been hectic to say the least; but with this kind of schedule, we need to keep our daily spiritual practice strong. This includes a daily meditation practice. For those who help others, I hope you take the time for some much needed self care. I hope you find this video helpful. #monks #buddhism #mentalhealth

Working on my meditation pratice. Worked all my life and now retired and feel almost lost.I have been doing more things I enjoy in life.Gardening, painting, that helps me quit my mind. I need to adapt better practices to make me feel whole again.Just reading this (I) see allot of I's is that wrong ? Need to be more mindful in my actions.Work in progress ❤ ( gutter guards ) Trying to do things that I can switch out more easily..I have this issue of not doing something cause I don't have other things done. Then just let it all go. ???

Glad to see you back Ven Nick. I agree that it's important to help ourselves first in order for us to effectively help others. I belong to group two where I do my work while simultaneously helping others. At times I end up drowning with them 😟 and it's not a good feeling. This month of April, I've decided to take time off one day a week just to breathe, unwind, and set aside time for self care including meditation 🧘🏻♀️. Living a constant fast pace life is physically, emotionally, and psychologically draining. I think everyone can benefit by disconnecting from the chaotic outside world and meditating even for half hour each day.

I agree with you so much Donna. How I wish the world would take his lessons. He has brought a calm, clarity and fresh way to look at life that no one else presents. It is wonderful that he is here to spread his wisdom he had learned through his many lessons in Thailand. I feel blessed to be able to follow and absorb his essence.

My self care is remaining teachable, like a thirsty sponge, and being the best person I can be on a daily basis… sticking to the basics? Is the best for me… remembering who I am and where I come from… my gifts I’ve received from those who have gone before me, remaining humble and kind… SO glad you are here safe!!! I’ve watched you from your beginning your journey to this very minute in this video! Welcome Venerable Nick! So happy you share with us! I’m overjoyed to see you are back and continuing your path…♥️🕉☮️🙋♀️‼️🎶🌼🌼🌺🙏🏻
I love u brother Nick! Thank u for letting ur light SHINE❤️💛💚
There is a 4th category too..people who want to help others but are messed up in their own life so much so that they even can't help themselves.. 😊 i am one of them.. Thank u for your sweet insight.. 🙏
4:15 Too funny, I'm grew up in Phoenix, and lived in Florida. "It's either hot, or more hot." ROFL!!!! When I was a kid in the summer in Phoenix AZ, the air conditioning went out, and mom and dad couldn't afford to repair it or afford the >$300 per month in electricity to run it even if it was repaired. I endured several years of that. I know EXACTLY what Nick is talking about. Most people take modern technology and comforts for granted. I DO NOT. Thank you for everything you do Nick. Your works HELP people. Your vids help me at the lowest point in my life during the pandemic. I work on myself everyday. A little bit at a time, and I let myself make mistakes and not get all bent out of shape. Thank you!!! Cheers and peace all.

Ven Nick yours is a true calling you are able to help millions without coming face to face the one thing that gave me peace is journaling the ideas that you gave discovering yourself brings peace 🌞
This video is gold. As a highly sensitive, its been hard to branch out to help others with out observing other peoples emotions. I am working on boundairies. For 11 years I have worked with children. During this time frame, I wasnt just being a teacher... but I was literally understanding their world and getting down to their level. Majority of the time, I would be silly and very imaginative. During my awakening, this time period being a teacher helped me heal my inner child. I realized how important it is to not take life seriously and to have fun! For many years I have been doing my own work and its still continuing. I am currently transitioning to a new mission and a calling that requires me to use my throat chakra and it has been difficult. This new journey has allowed me to see my other shadows and it is helping me work through it. Helping others and holding space is truly a gift. I am now transitioning in becoming a creative healer/guide to help others to bring more joy and magic into their life through intuitive and expressive arts (and so much more). This transition has been very difficult for me, but I know deep down this is what I am supposed to do. I have been dealing with straight anxiety and self doubt with this new adventure, but I think it is all about the process and the continuation of cracking the codes and betting myself. I know I have helped many children, but I am now ready to help adults. If I could help one life, that would mean the world to me. Bright cosmic blessings for everyone.
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu 🙏🙏🙏 Bhante Nick for spreading the Buddha's teaching to the other part of the world. Keep sharing the Buddha's way of life by being compassionate and loving kindness to all living beings. And stay along the 8 noble path.
Clean hands and a pure heart.

Hi Nick! Welcome back to America, you are 100% what you said. Thanks for reminding us and we need it.
I felt this message so deeply. I feel like you directly talked to my heart
Self care practice for me are doing meditation and yoga, enjoying the nature, for instance admiring the beauty of flowers and mountains, and listening to birds chirping and watching them flying around. I also volunteer my time with a hospice patient, offering companionship. Welcome back to the United States, Nick. I wish to meet with you one day. 💕

I have had times that while I was helping people I didn't have enough energy to do some things I needed for my health. Even doing our best, we still have limitations. I agree that being the best versions of ourselves is good for the world in general. Instead of all messages of what we can leave behind in the world, it can be greater in a sense to simply contribute less to the corruptions. :)

Nick, Welcome to Atlanta Georgia…. My Home! WOW I feel universally connected as you are right here. Amazing! I am a Nichiren Buddhist and I chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. I’ve been following you for many months and you have been a HUGE inspiration and so diverse in your videos. You speak and open your life and heart. What you share really resonates with me. It has been a true benefit! My self care practice is chanting NMRK, exercising (jogging/walking/running), sunshine, healthy nutritious foods mostly vegetables, drink plenty of water, proper rest, relaxing jazz music, breathing the morning cool fresh air, listening to all the calming nature sounds!☀️☀️☀️
You are shining!!!!very bright!your smile at the end is saying all the beauty of it!!!
This talk is about preparation, doing our own work, so that we can help others naturally. "The best way you can help this world is to train yourself." What you teach is what you have been able to overcome with yourself. Thank you. Marshall Vian Summers also stresses preparation and practice in his writings. Here is an excerpt. "You give to the world through your own development at this time... Each day that you undertake the practice according to each step that is given... you acknowledge your value and your worth... Your practice is a gift to the world for it gives that which you are affirming within yourself. Through stillness and silence, give of your heart and give of your mind...Though you cannot as yet see the result, have confidence that this giving will extend beyond your own mind and will touch all minds in the universe for all minds are truly joined in reality." (Steps to Knowledge, MVS)

I have been listening to you for many weeks. I had to laugh when you seemed exhausted being in a classroom for 8 periods straight. You were exhausted. Being a special education teacher it seemed funny. Also Nick seriously I am so surprised that you would think it was strange that students from Georgia USA never saw a monk or meditated. To put it in perspective how many students in Thailand were know how to read the Bible, gospel sing, go to confession. I am 71 and have studied Buddhism in Sri Lanka and Thailand in 1978. I now found you and I practice meditation because of f you. I also make my bed. Love

How very very exciting to actually get a heart from you. I am 71 so to add something special to my life age is a gift. I taught school in India in 1976-78. I was a gift by a parent to live in his hotel in SriLanka. Interesting experience as I fell in love with a to be Thai monk. He was with a group of Thai gem merchant. As you can imagine it was more than interesting life. Thanks for being in my life. It brings a completed circle. In Buddhism I believe a circle completion is quite a blessing. Namaste
