How to Heat Set Fabric Paint. Iron the Painted Fabric to Make the Design Permanent.

Fixing textile paint on clothes with ironing:
1) The paint must be fully dry.
2) Iron without steam.
3) Iron at least 3 minutes both sides.
4) Use a cotton cloth to protect the iron from staining.
5) Done. From now on, wash it on a delicate wash cycle.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've found tutorials of how to paint with fabric paint. But I've never used fabric paint before. And I needed help with what to do once you were finished painting

*PLEASE,* have you ever tried to use white fabric markers on a large surface area of fabric? (Perhaps, on pastel coloured fabric), If so, how did it turn out? How many coats did it take? Did it truly last through several washings? Any & all information is helpful. Thanks.

They can certainly work if the fabric is cotton and absorbs the paint well. The marker should be of high quality. No doubt it's a big job. And if you iron it properly after drying, it will definitely withstand washing, if you wash delicate clothes on a program, in a laundry bag or by hand. Anyway, so that the paint cannot be crushed.

Heyy, I have done fabric painting with fevicryl colours, so this method is useful there also? Like won't the colour patches will be on iron or the thin cloth?

I have not used these specific colors myself. If they are acrylics, you can try them on a sample cloth and test whether they can withstand washing. The paint must be completely dry before ironing. For example, several days. I have had success painting with acrylics and heat setting, but acrylic paint with medium has given better results.

I’m lost. What brand of paint am I supposed to use? I’ve never used fabric paint and I don’t see any links for the products used in the video.

I used different brand of textile markers. I have bought them from local art supply stores. For example, I have Kreul Javana, Pebeo and Marabu textile markers. However, the ironing video applies to all textile colors - both markers and those painted with a brush. You can choose the brand and product according to what you want to do. Do you want to draw with a marker or apply a picture with a brush. If you have never painted before, the safest thing to do first is to try a light 100% or 95% cotton shirt (artificial fibers are not suitable) and paint, for example, through a stencil or a not too detailed picture with a brush. It would be especially good to do a trial run first, because it can take some time to get to know the fabric paint. Here I have made a video about paint applied with a brush: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYtszblsmd2wmJs.html

I have the simplest and most common iron. I think the simplest is quite enough. If you are involved in crafts in depth, you might need something more special, but for painting with textile paints, the simplest iron is enough. Three heat levels and the option to turn off the steaming function.

The color will last best if painted on the right fabric (preferably high cotton content), allowed to dry completely, ironed on both sides, and washed inside out in the washing machine on a gentle cycle or by hand. This is the best way to preserve it. If one of these steps is not done properly, more wear can occur. The colors on my clothes have been preserved well. Those who haven't bothered to wash gently will have worn more.

what does fully heat set paint feel like? does it still feel like scratchy dry paint or does it feel like it's not even there?

Paint can be felt according to what color it is. If they are painted with a color intended for light fabrics, they are generally not felt under the finger. If painted with opaque colors, they are more similar to acrylic paint. Heating generally does not change the nature. Watch my video on textile dyes. There I will point out the differences. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYtszblsmd2wmJs.htmlsi=EllNwshi1T4Ry8pJ
