How to Grow TONS of Strawberries!

You can turn your existing strawberry plants into a bountiful patch by using their runners! These long shoots with baby plants at the tips can be encouraged to root in soil or pots. Simply weigh down a runner's new growth point with a pin or wire, keeping it in contact with the soil. Once roots form, snip the runner from the parent plant and you've got a new strawberry ready to thrive! Focus on healthy runners from strong plants, and limit the number you encourage to root so your existing plants keep producing fruit.

I've been putting out a load of strawberry stems over the past 2 weeks. I already had 2 baskets growing, but knew i needed more. I put them in baskets, bins and huge plastic vases (i bore holes in them). I put soil, then 5 stems in each big bin and vase, and 3 in each basket. I also did a couple of mesh bags for strawberries (5 stems each) to see if they will grow and by how much.

Addendum: I started an earlier batch where only one bucket grew as I realized I put the other stems (I each) too deep. I replanted the deep ones earlier this week.

Good luck Pam. I bought 5 plants plus of course the runners made more. Well you better wrap them at night cause the birds and whatever else eat the few you grow before you do.

Mrs. Pam, is that hay or straw in your garden bed? Is it for water retention? I live in South Florida, so I can't plant anything til basically well into fall if I don't want it to die from the heat.

@joycebegnaud9645 If you are in South Florida also, our grow season is from fall til like February...depending on what you are trying to grow. Hot peppers do great in the summer, but they need lots of water to mot dry out in our brutal heat.
