@@jenjohnson4613 Wondering the same thing on when to plant in the ground! I have a clipping from a rose bush my grandma has. I rooted it like this, don't have a greenhouse, put it on the side of my house that gets light all day long, but no direct sun...it's doing great...but wondering as the summer moves along, when is the best time to plant in the ground? Some say wait and winter it, some say August, some say the fall...hmmm!

What is the best cutting to take if a distance away? The leaflets like the vid, or a few leaves? Esp if it will It willl be 3-6 days before I can transplant

My grandma took a cutting from her grandmother when she married my grandfather after WW2. He passed away couple years ago, and she is now 91. I have the chance to clone her roses and gift them to the rest of the family. I'm going to clone twice as many as i can, and share them with my massive family. Thanks for the tips and tricks. I just want to preserve that legacy. For some reason, I find great value in that. Thanks for the hard work and wisdom. This plant is over 100 years old, and I'd hate to see it fade away.

Watched this video last year. Right after blooming, I cut the flowers of and planted the cuttings with the bottles on top. 3 out of 5 made it. I thought like this I had the best chance since all the energy was going into the top where the flowers were. In this way I could use that energy for my plantings. And gues what ? This year the new roses even started blooming ! Can you imagine, after one year ? I was totally baffled. Thanks for the tips because now I've been able to "reproduce" my more than 60 year old climbing rose !!! Greatings from Holland ( EU)

I got the gardening bug , from my Beloved Grandmother , she Loved 🥰 her roses 🌹.

We have had a scented rose bush, pink/white mix, in the family for over 200 years, all the family have taken cuts for decades, and the roses are blooming in my families gardens throughout Ireland.

Also as a handy little note... The bottoms that you cut off your drink bottles can also be re-used as a seedling container. Just pop a few drainage holes in the bottom, add growing medium of your choice, and voila! Seed trays. Nothing wasted! 😊 Happy growing and God bless everyone.

Good for you. 100% of my cutting rot and die. A neighbor who does a lot of gardening took cuttings from my roses and they all died on her also.

Unashamed excitements about roses and soda bottles is refreshing

"... and what do you do with the flowers? You take them inside for your wife" AWWW! I had to pause the video and just comment on how wholesome and loving the delivery of that was. I'm watching this video because I want to take cuttings from a rose plant called Shiela's Perfume, it has the same name as my aunt who passed away last year. She had Down Syndrome and died in her 40s. I wanted to take the cuttings and grow plants to give to all of her siblings (my uncles and my mom), she was the youngest of four. Thank you for sharing this video and having an amazing attitude. Your video was the first one that showed in the results when I typed in the search, and I'm glad I clicked on it. Happy growing!

Mike, I'm just seeing this and how excited I was to see it. My mother-in-law - way back in 1968 - taught me about rooting rose cuttings. She simply would trim the branch as you did, trim the thorns, dip it in the power root tone and "stick it in the ground with a jar over it". She had a spot just outside her kitchen door where her "babies started". She would watch the day, and if it was cloudy and coolish, she'd leave the jar as it was. If it was bright sunshine, she'd raise the jar on flat stones or such until nightfall. It never failed. Two years ago, I discovered an ancient climbing rose in our bushes, totally overgrown with monkey grass and such. I was thrilled! I dug it up, placed it in a showy spot and kept it watered. It grew wonderfully last year, no flowers, but great bush development. This year, right now, it's covered in buds. And it has the most wonderful "old climbing rose" scent. As the flowers fade, I will try some transplants...because...who ever has "enough"?? Thank you for your video!

So, I was taught to “poke a hole in the dirt FIRST….then put the stem in, and cover it up……because if you shove it down into the dirt, as the stem goes in, the dirt pulls off the rooting powder…..so very little is around the bottom.

Thank you so much! I used your technique on my mom's roses and one from my sister. I did it last August, left them in pots in the ground thru a hard winter, and planted them in April. One has a flower coming, ☺️. Now, I am making starts from a rose I bought my granddaughter when she was small. I'm so excited! Thank you!!

That is the most excitement I have seen over seeing roots growing. lol love it

I watched this video, planted cuttings last Summer and almost every one of them rooted. One rose "stick" not only routed but even bloomed this Spring! So I've got 8 more rose bushes! Thank you for your instructions and excitement about gardening.

Roses are my favorite flower. I just started trying to grow them last Spring. A year later, I have 9 plants, all a different color. Now, I will attempt to grow some off of what I have. Thank you for making this easier and less scary to do!

Great video. One of the things I am proud of accomplishing is rooting a rose slip and getting to see the bush bloom for the first time.

I'm very jealous that you have beautiful little garden helpers. Mine are grown and gone but the flowers they helped plant years ago are a daily reminder of the giggles and ew, gross moments we shared. Suck up every minute of this time off with your family! You'll all remember it as one of the best times ever!!

Wow, I'm amazed. I had never tried to propagate a rose in any way. I watched this video this past July and decided to see if I could do it. Well, I got the cutting planted and covered with the bottle top and put it underneath the swing on the patio. It gets a little sun every day, but not too much. Kept checking it to see if anything was happening. It seemed to be doing okay, so I stopped checking as often. Yesterday I happened to look (it's late September now) and was amazed. Not only had the cutting taken, the cutting had grown 10 inches and had 9 side shoots off the main stem, and the top had grown up through the open spout of the plastic bottle covering the cutting. Not only that, there is a tiny rose bud right on the top. Wow! Guess I should pick off that bud so the energy can go toward growing the root. Can't wait to plant it. Thanks for such good directions------they work great.

My local grocery store sell 4 gallon water jugs to put on a dispenser, they aren’t returnable like some other water brands so I’ve saved some to use as mini greenhouses to extend my growing season. Now I have another use for them. Thank you!

Mike: Thanks for all the detailed info. I planted a tea rose last year and the blooms this year are amazing. It was one of only a couple of plants that made it through our two weeks straight of 105 degree weather and continued to bloom in spit of it. I was surfin' these videos to find out how to take cuttings so I could grow more. Your video was the best, most thorough video I have found. I got my jugs cut, filled with potting soil and water and will proceed to my cuttings and plantings in the morning. Thanks again.

Hey, you answered my questions.. I have 20 "Friesia" roses in my garden along the road.. And they bring a lot of love to the people passing by with their color and smell..

I have a beautiful rose bush that my late Mother planted 60 years ago... she started it off from a cutting that was from a bush 50 years old itself! I've done my cuttings from this bush, three weeks ago. I put one slip-just one, under a water bottle and it's got leaves all over! So yes, this method really does work!!❤

This was so unbelievably helpful! I tried this with one of our more rare park-roses, and it worked like a charm! I even went as far as to try this method with other kinds of cuttings, like Honeysuckle, and they too rooted very quickly. I even planted the latter in a transparent orchid pot just to see the roots develop, and they were visible within 2 weeks!

I have rooted roses from cuttings successfully over the years. I never leave so many leaves and I never let the leaves touch the sides of the cover due to potential fungus. I have also set them straight into the garden to root with a cover. I enjoyed the video.

So glad I found this. My grandparents are now both passed, and they had cuttings from their mothers' roses in their yard. I plan on propagating clippings from both for each of my siblings. ❤

I didn't know you could do this. My grandmother has a rose bush from my late great grandmother. She does all she can to keep it thriving, but now I can take a piece from it and have my OWN?????? I am so excited! I can't wait to show her this.

My mother & I both have been out forever home 5yrs ago. & in front of our home there’s 7 beautiful rose bushes. Two Red roses, two Bright pink roses, two white roses, & one yellow!! & of course I must have more!! lol in our back yard we have one lavender rose bush that smells heavenly! & I would love to plant two more in the front side yard of our home. I’m so excited to try this! I’m so glad that I came across your video.

I really liked your video, so I tried it with a mini rose bush I already have. TOTAL SUCCESS!!! I now have 3 rose bushes. And they are so healthy and beautiful. It's only been a couple of months so no buds yet but I am taking another cutting tomorrow from a recent bloom....we'll see if it works so well again. Thank you so much.

Thank you Mike! I followed your tips and I successfully propagated 3 roses from stems! After about 3 to 4 months, one of them actually produced a rose! The roots are great and I can't wait to plant them outside. I think I might do this every year! Thank so much for taking the time to share your wisdom with us!

Ikr, my friend who first told me about the beauty David Austen roses, and showed me pics of hundreds of them, she has most of them, said her husband cares for them. I was *sigh* I weakened my back this year trying to move them around in pots on the sack truck 😅 Imagine having a man doing all that, I'd think I'd won the lotto haha!

Your family is adorable!!! I just took my cuttings and because I am away from home till tomorrow I just slathered them bottoms with honey to keep them till I get home where I will properly brush an anti fungal and rooting hormone on them to keep them from becoming infected and hoping they root up happily and without incident. Woo hoo!!! 🌹

Yeah, those should work well. Just cut some holes in the bottom for drainage.

This was a great tutorial for a beginner like me! My grandfather gave me some rose clippings from his garden and I'd hate to see them just wilt and die. Will be saving this video so I can keep track of each step, thanks again!

Finally, a video that tells me what I need to know about propagating roses. Thank you so very much for an excellent and informative video. You told me when to cut how to plant how to water how to fertilize how to care for them completely. The only thing I would like to know now is is after the second planting of the Roses when do you finally plant them in the ground and how do you plant them in the ground. Again thank you so much for a very very informative video. Well done and you didn't waste a lot of time with idle chit chat you got straight to the point.
