Professional Grower Exposes Fake Rose Propagation Videos

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Many viewers have contacted me (especially recently!) to ask about fantastic looking propagation videos where roses are grown from flower buds, leaves, seeds or in aloe or potato slices! In this video I'll go through some of the suspected fake rose videos and discuss how they've made basic botanical mistakes - and show you some of the "tells" that you're seeing staged propagation.
If your first question is "why" - why would they go through the trouble to fake propagation, here's my follow-up video: • Why and How Fake Propa...
I've used videos and thumbnails from some of the "usual suspects" (I'm looking at you Johnson Engleng!) and I'll be happy to defend the fair use of those clips for the purposes of criticism.

I am wondering, I’m interested in roses, but also Liliac bushes, and I have 2 beautiful deep purple lilac bushes that are both not doing well after 10 years. Please, do you have any suggestions on how to graft or to clone from original bushes and make new ones? Sadly forgot much on gardening due to brain tumor, and I forgot so much after surgery. So it would be so helpful, and I would be forever grateful, if you could let me know what to do so I don’t follow rotten advice. Thank you for being a great channel 👍

Since KZread won’t stop these fake videos that enrich crooks and harm people, you have armed us with facts we can disseminate. I will be sending a link to your videos to about 25 of activist friends and ask them to share. If all of us would contact at least 5-10 friends with this info, we could make a huge difference. The first one actually could've been real because roses can be planted usually they use larger pieces but and leaves some leaves on it but that was a cutting way of growing roses so the first one he should've just said instead of saying it was totally fake he should've said that's not a seed that's a cutting it probably took a lot more work and time than if he left a longer piece of the stem and left some leaves above the soil which is the normal way of doing a cutting would've been a better way but don't say oh it's fake because he used a small piece and you're not thinking of there are multiple ways with roses of planting new plants there's another plant that you take a cutting and it's got these big broad leaves and you just put in water you don't need a seed pineapples you can cut the top off and plant and grow a Pineapple plants

Same here, as you know a genuine propagation video showing results takes weeks or months to make, and if the propagation fails your time has been wasted and the footage ends up being scrapped. Whereas fake videos can be produced in a day or two with guaranteed results every time.

Thank you for this video. I recently watched some of these videos on propagating begonias and a potato was used to create this wonderful new plant with strong healthy roots. As a master gardener I was immediately struck by some of the oddities of the process. There were flowers growing out of the leaf cutting but no sign of any new leaf buds or leaf decay. Most gardeners know that the cutting will work on the development of roots, leaves and lastly flower blooms. I was also curious as to where the potato went. The leaf was in perfect condition after being buried in the dirt for 45 days yet no trace of a potato was to be seen. 🤔 🤔 You are a pearl in a sea of deception. I really appreciate you taking the time to expose these sites.

Oh! Gosh Jason! Thank you so much for your fab video otherwise I too might have wasted my time. My rose growing efforts started when someone gave me a bunch of roses during COVID lockdown and I noticed a little growth of leaves coming out of the stems. I just went with instinct and left them in water on the window ledge for light. I was fortunate in getting just one of them to grow into the most beautiful bush that never stops blooming as I live on the coast and 'green prune'. I did Biology at school and understand cell reproduction and also realise that plants truly want to grow!! So! The biggest tip that I ever got was from a rose grower who told me not to let the hot sun burn the stem before the leaves form. So when I prune, I cut the stems into about 5 inches and just push the stems into soil, on a shady side of my property where they get light but not direct sun. I now have 17 rose bushes that have 'taken'. Not all do. Especially the slighter thin ones. So all the Hoo haa is really not necessary. Good luck to all the propagators🌹🌹🌹

Thank you Jason, I have been noticing many channels recently posted some kind of amazing and incredible videos, not only just limited to rose plants. All these gardeners look more like a magician than a trusted gardener. A lot of audiences trusted them just like trust GOD, that's really funny and incredible. I usually doubt and leave comments to suspect the results, but kind of I am too weak. I have my KZread garden channel and grow slowly, but I guaranteed I never fool my audiences, even though some results are not perfect but it is real. One of the reasons I created my channel is I was once fooled and cheated by many channels. Another thing I remembered that you once mentioned is KZread will not show thumb down in order to encourage creators, that's really funny decision! On the one hand it encourage these fake videos. I think all of us should stand together to report this to KZread to give warning or ban these KZread channels.

Outstanding video on exposing the lies on those fake videos. I personally look at the hands of those supposed to growers and you can clearly see that they don't belong to someone who grows roses. They always look well manicured, never injured by a thorn and the story goes on. What puzzles me though is what its their motivation for making those fake videos.

Thanks Cindi. Well that's the easy part to understand. Garden Easy has estimated earnings into the 20k per month range on SocialBlade. Add up all the other associated channels, and there's definitely a financial incentive to make outlandish claims in the thumbnail. KZread prioritizes click-through-rate in their recommendations, so it looks like there will remain a healthy financial incentive for the fakery.

I instantly love this guy. I have been propagating aaaaaalll kinds of stuff just for the fun it. It’s only been a little chunk of years, but has still brought a decent amount of experience with a pretty wide range of species. It’s a calling i didn’t realize i was hearing. These “magic” growing videos have been popping up like crazy more and more. I’m still learning about plants and curious, so I’ve fed into some of these views. But as interesting as they kind of seem they might be, they are just as confusing. Potatoes/bananas/chunks of aloe constantly make an appearance, but their results & samples never seem to match themselves, or anything I’ve experienced. When you prop mostly everything in just glass, water, & light, you get a good idea of how much stuff you are NOT using or doing. I don’t use powders. You also get an active view of growth speed & shape of the various parts, especially the roots. My rose cuttings have never developed thick stubby fingers like my epiphytic stuff. These videos give off red flags, and yet the false confidence is enough to buy my curiosity as an amateur. It’s awesome to find a pro rose guy voicing my concerns with these. Thank you for getting this out there. It’s very reaffirming of what I’ve been working toward.
