How to Grow Mushrooms: Grain Spawn & liquid culture Jar Lids

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video shows how to make jar lids for mushroom cultivation. The lids consist of a rubber self-healing injection port and a syringe filter. They can be used for liquid culture, grain spawn, BRF cakes, no pour agar jars, etc. The lids are easy to make, reusable, and make the inoculation of grains or liquid cultures very easy. At the end of the video, I mention some alternative materials such as synthetic filter discs, micropore tape, cotton balls, polyfill stuffing, and using high-temperature silicone to make the injection ports. Some of these options may be better or worse than others. The benefit to some of the materials is that they are easy to get or are cheap.

How long do the filters last? I.e how many times can them pressure cook them?

You can just put foil over the lids, and make sure to loosen the lids so all the airflow isn't stressing the filter you put on the lids. @puffandstuff72

no, you need sterilization in a pressure cooker.

You don't need the silicone for the rubber injection ports or the filters.... if your holes are drilled the right size it's already a tight enough fit...... been doing lids without silicone for ever and never encountered a problem.... it's an unnecessary step

I recently heard that when spraying rubbing alcohol to sterilize, if the alcohol mists on the filter it can cause bacteria or damage the filter?? Have you had any issues with this?
