How To Grow MILLIONS of Plants a Year: Plant Nursery Tour

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Okay, this was insane. My mind was totally blown on this tour of the Plants by Post nursery up in San Jose, CA. They grow over 80 million plants per year: cyclamen, vinca, geraniums, herbs, flowers, you name it - they grow it.
In this plant tour, I take you from START to FINISH, all the way from seed starting to the loading dock where orders go out. You'll see incredible seed starting, transplanting, and pot-making machines.

Not even gonna lie. I watched this video more than once. It was fascinating to see how seeds are started on that scale and the millions of tiny little seedlings becoming a sea of color. I swear I could work with a company like this with plants and be completely happy to go to work every day. Very cool video!

This is awesome. I manage IT for a plug grower in West Virginia. We grow just a few more ... 180 million per year. Our operation is very similar in that we grow both seedling plugs, cuttings, and finished product. We mainly wholesale to other greenhouses and independent garden centers, but we also operate our own garden centers in the Ohio River Valley.

@@epicgardening I know your primary focus (based on the videos I've watched) is on edibles but do you do any ornamental planting? You don't look like you have a huge amount of property but do you do any videos on planting just some fun annuals? You're in San Diego so I'm jealous of your climate/zone and I absolutely LOVE bougainvillea. That would definitely thrive in your climate, no? I guess what I'm saying is while I appreciate the practical, functional gardening you do, it would be nice to see you grow something showy or fun (for outdoors). Do you ever do that?

Super cool behind the scenes tour and great editing showing everything in a step-by-step progression. Could watch these types of videos all day. I was fascinated by the process and wondered why I'd never thought about how the plants made it to markets to fill the demand. I was also, in my mind, comparing how my grandmother used to keep her garden and orchard flourishing with just her hands and native wisdom. As a new gardener, I love your channel. I really wish these big businesses focused on straight species of native plants with smaller batches with more variation. Big hort and big box stores are selling us mostly non-native plants that do little for the environment. A trend is happening and people will start wanting plants native to their specific region. As an industrial engineer I can admire the process and as an industrial engineer I also see the greater impacts to sustainability and selling the customers something that helps restore energy to our global system if you will.

Wow man, it is truly amazing (Epic proportion) but the most amazing is the small space you need for the machinery. If you "ONLY" put all that Hi-Tech equipment in one room my guess is (I could be wrong) but a room the size of a half acre or even less, honestly 90% of the place is for the table where you keep the plant chilling until they get bigger and the 10 % or 5 % left is all the foot print you need for the machinery, nice and very informative video, thanks bro.

Thank you!! I love these kinds of tours! I would also like it if you made it to some plant shows and botanical gardens and filmed there. I love your concise way of explaining things and your very clear speech. I'm hard of hearing so when someone speaks really well and has a nice baritone voice like yours it's easy for me to follow. And it's SO, SO nice to be able to follow and not have to watch the CC when all the pretty plants are being shown lol! Please keep producing videos! I love them!
