how to grow lavender from seeds and a trick that I found to help germinate lavender seeds

How to grow lavender from seeds and a trick that I found to help germination rates. First of all you want to chill your lavender seeds before you even try to plant the seeds. Lavender seeds need light to germinate so you want to press them onto the soil surface. Use a squirt bottle to keep the seeds moist while they are germinating under the lights.
The true lavender is what bloomed for me last year from seed.

Hello Heidi, I would chill them for at least 2 weeks in the refrigerator you could put them in the freezer for colder chilling temps. Just remember to put them in the ziplock bag so you don't damage your seeds. The longer you let them chill the better the germination. These batches that I did here the seeds chilled for months. Happy Gardening, Carrie

Hello, My parents cardiologist and the CRNP/certified registered nutritionist that all of us went to who are highly recognized for their services recommends eating real butter. My best friend who is a CRN an into nutrition and the family doctors all recommend eating real butter. Your body cannot break down margarine because of the artificial ingredients. If there was a problem with real butter the nutritionist would have been telling us about it. Yes real butter does help your nails grow strong. Yes sour cream is good for you too. Everyone does have their own opinions but these are the facts that we have so far from the medical teams. Check with your health advisor first. Everybody's bodies are different on how they process stuff. Some people can live in pollution and other people can't it depends on your body. I'm not going to argue on what is healthy for some people and not for others.

Thank you! A lot of my approach to sowing seeds is experimenting and seeing how something grows best. Taking what I learned over the years and then teaching that. If something says that it needs light to germinate then I always surface sow them. If the seeds are really small I don't always cover them, if just depends. Like pansies say they need darkness to germinate them but I have found that surface sowing the seeds an putting a dark lid over top of them works best. Some seeds I can just look at them and I know how to sow them. I've been gardening since 2003, that was the year that I myself got into gardening, I grew up around it and I am still learning, you will always continue to learn when you garden. I hope that helps you! Your welcome! Happy Gardening! Carrie

Unfortunately this is why she has low germination rate. Take your seeds and lightly dampen a paper towel evenly. Evenly distribute your seeds over half the paper towel and fold the other half on top. Carefully place paper towel seed bed into a ziplock bag and place in the fridge for a month. Take the ziplock out and place in a warm area (does not have to be sunny). Check every day and as soon as they sprout you can plant them in the soil. They’ll need little water but much light. You’ll get nearly 100% germination!

There are differences. One may have a more pungent fragrance than the other. Zone hardiness can vary. The time it takes them to bloom is different. The plants can grow differently.

You mentioned that the seeds need to be refrigerated or cooled before spring sowing, however you did not really go into how much or how you had done this, some places refer to the cold stratification as refrigerating the seeds for upwards of 2 to 3 weeks. Here's my question is it possible to sow the seeds and place the planters in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks prior to placing out to grow

Hi Hey Hey, Yes I did. I would chill them for at least 2 weeks you could put them in the freezer for colder chilling temps but I did mine in the refrigerator. Just remember to put them in the ziplock bag so you don't damage your seeds, I put the whole pack in the refrigerator then just take out what I need. The longer you let them chill the better the germination. These batches that I did here the seeds chilled for months. No they will not grow while they would be in the freezer or cold they would start growing when you plant them.

Hi Yony, I've never tried planting the seeds in the flower container directly. I plant them in a cell pack then I transplant them to the flower container. If your container is small enough like a 2" - 3" then I think you could plant them directly in there. Lavender is a slow growing plant and if the container is too big you might have an issue with root rot.
