Hello Hoocho, I’m starting vertical hydroponic Lettuce indoor, I’m from India and used .54 gm of masterblend 4-18-38, .27gm of Epsom salt and .54gm calcium nitrate in 1liter water for Lettuce and I got EC 1.3 around 650ppm per liter. Is it enough for almost 4weeks old lettuce or do i need to increase the dose?

I’ve been growing everything in infinite heathy outside. I get free buckets from the local grocery store. Then I use a net pot filled with clay pebbles. When then water gets to an inch in the buckets (5 gallon) I fill them back halfway with nutrient solution. My goal is to have all of my vegetables grown at home. And you’ve come in clutch for all of this. So thank you.

I harvested a bucket of bell peppers from 24 plants in nft this year. Grew awesome but was crazy how shallow the root system of the peppers is. Had root rotting as soon as they hit the water but they grew fine. Was thinking of trying a different method like this wicking system or bato buckets to have more media/air for them to make roots. Your roots look a lot healthier then mine did.

Thanks for an inspirational channel. I teach through a university and one subject I’m creating a presentation for is Aqua-Hydroponics. I utilize both in my home. Because you use media it doesn’t meet the criteria to state it grew hydroponically. Your system is equivalent to some sort of hybrid utilizing water from a bottom media and water reservoir. Interesting though

Quick question, with the wick wedge and grow spike bags that are outdoors, do you pop holes in the base in the event of large rain, or does it just seep out vial the main hole in the base?

I’ve never had problems with rain. Depends on the system. But if you calculated the area of the open top and then times that by the amount of rain you’ll get an understanding of how little it effects the system. Rain has always been a good replacement for water transpired in my opinion. For example. If you get 1ml of rain for every 1m square. That’s only a litre of water. You probable won’t have a meter of open top.

Despite Hoocho's pepper's roots growing into the pipe, peppers don't really like wet feet. Kratky probably isn't the best way to hydroponically grow them. I grew some in 2 gallon grow bags set on a pond liner and kept about 3/8" of water in the pond liner with one of Hoocho's float boxes. Most beautiful looking pepper plants I ever saw. Grew 5-6' tall but my greenhouse was too hot limiting flowering and when they did flower there weren't any bugs to pollinate them so I got very few peppers out of them. Same peppers in my garden only got 18" tall but they produced almost all my peppers. Also, a lot of them just fell over because they outgrew the stakes I used. Definitely need a way to tie them up if grown this way. Had same issues with both bell and jalapeno peppers. Roots did grow out of the bottom of the grow bags but not to the extent you saw in the video. Tomatoes had the same issues.
