    I just tossed some seeds in a pot of soil and a few came up, and finally only one is viable. I wonder if the refrigeration increases the viability? But just to say that if a person is OK with one or two coming out of it, they can be dropped in a pot of dirt and will also come up (mine were also seeds from store bought grapes I purchased to eat).

    The fridge increases the germination rate. If you follow the nature, the wild grape will fall ground, cover up during the winter and germinate the next spring. Fridge is just a trick to mimic the winter and kick start the process . If just sow into dirt, don't be surprised a few months later, some seed will wake up and start germinate

    Hi :-) Have you got the chance to get mature plants that produce grapes? I read about starting grapes from seed and professional growers say that plants started from seed will not be like the parent plant and they might not produce grapes at all or of a lower quality. If anybody else knows, please answer, I will greatly appreciate it.

  • @TonysExploration

    @TonysExploration

    Yes, it will not be the same as parent plant. But not necessary lower quality... All the professional grape wine breed and cross breed from seeds and wait for years to select and choose the best among all to be the sole cultivar for mass propagation

    Yes, you can. I did it with all kind of fruit seeds, and I have little cherry trees, apple , prune, and this just by throwing the seeds where the vegetables are growing. I did this last year, without knowing that they are going to grow, even if i worked the soil with the shovel , just to get ready for this spring. The earh and nature are amazing. I burried all my popatoes peals, and any organic staff that it was supposed to go in the trash, and surprise, the potatos peals are now potaos growing . I learn each year that starvation can be avoided with a little bit of effort. My sursprise was the grapevine that showed up just because the seeds spent an autumn and winter in the ground. Just try with any seed, you will see.

    That is to mimic the winter ...in the nature, the wild grape fall into grounds, go through a season in winter and when spring come , it germinate. To do that, we just dump into fridge. This process call cold stratification. Without the cold treatment, the seed wont germinate
