I think I should practicing standing on one foot off ice as well. If you can’t do it off ice, you definitely can’t do it on ice. This is way more difficult than it looks.

How comfortable are you doing a backward two foot glide? Is it the fear factor holding you back, or do you feel its a technical problem ?We'll work on the video for a future release!

Ice Coach Online I’m learning on hockey skates and I can do backward swizzles and c-cuts no problem, but as soon as I lift my leg even for a millisecond it feels as if I’m going to lose my balance completely. Looking forward to the video!

@@philipprice4754 do you feel like you are going to fall forwards onto your face? This feeling can be common in hockey skates due to the lack of a toe pick. If so, try working on not leaning too far forwards when do backward swizzles. Build up more confidence moving backwards. Weight should be over the balls of the feet, but if you are leaning forwards too much you'll slip over that toe. Practicing a two foot backward glides with the feet close together can also help. Make sure the feet are on two flat edges (neither inside or outside, completely upright). Finally, Never put the weight into the heel of the skate while gliding backward, you can have a nasty fall.

Ice Coach Online Thanks very much! I think I am leaning forward a bit too much - I feel as if I’m right on my toes rather than the balls of my feet. Great advice - thanks again.

It's normal to have one leg you are more comfortable on, just make sure you practice your weaker leg a lot. It's easy to neglect the weaker side with everything on the ice, but as the moves become more advanced, this will start to create bigger problems for you.

@@melissamccausland9273 are you able to do the chasses but then get stuck on the two foot turn? If so, make sure before the turn you go into a two foot glide on a curve with the upper body facing the centre of the circle. Foot closest the centre of the circle should be on an outside edge, other foot on an inside edge. The foot on the inside edge should be slightly in front of the other foot. Keep the upper body facing the centre of the circle at all times and pivot to backwards. Weight should be on the ball of the foot (both feet). You can watch out forward outside 3 turn video for help to understand how 3 turns are done, essentially what you are trying to do is a two footed 3 turn. In the future we will cover this in a video, hope this helps in the mean time!

I can hold my right glide pretty much the whole length of the rink no problem, i can balance and hold the left without putting the other foot down but i really have to fight to keep it on the flat, it always wants to drop onto an inside edge. I can do more advanced stuff ok, backwards crossovers both ways comfortably, crossrolls, and waltz jumps and even got a baby toe-loop. Just upgraded my boots to seperate blade combo. (Edea chorus with coronation Ace) Is it worth moving the alignment of the blade or is it likely a technique problem and its just my weaker foot. Dont want to mess with the blades too much if its just me being lazier on that leg, tend to compensate ok on most stuff just really obvious on a basic glide.
