Can you glaze using acrylic paint?
Yes you can and in this tutorial I show you what glazing is, how to glaze with acrylics and which colors you can use.
There are different methods of glazing an acrylic painting but this way is quick and easy.
I'll be glazing a Tonal Landscape painting I made in the previous video here: • BEST Tip For a Succesf...
Glazing is a great way to add subtle color and beautiful translucent layers to a painting. It is also excellent for changing the mood of a painting and tying all the areas in the painting together.
Color in art and in paintings is very alluring and often the first ting that attract us to a piece of art. For a lot of us, however, color is also one of the most difficult things to learn and master.
I have always had a pretty good eye for color - but my art really took off when I started doing paintings in black and white and then added colors later with glazing.

Thank you for explaining glazing so clearly.
Love the glazing, livens the whole piece up!!
Beautiful work
I am so grateful to you for posting all these videos. I am definitely a self taught painter. I’ve discovered along the way the things I am doing are “wrong” (namely enjoying the fact that I can go for some cool water color effects) and it’s so wonderful to have my “wrong” instincts validated by a prodigious talent like you. Now I’m no artist but you have certainly freed me up. Tonight I discovered that you don’t have to use acrylic glaze medium to glaze. You are a gift, Marie- Louise. Thank you.
Thank you ! I love your channel 🌷
I was linked back to this video... will try this. It's a bit like artificially aging a painting, not that I'd do any forgery or anything 😊
I love these videos!
Thank you very helpful
I love your style of painting. Your videos are so informative and inspiring. I’ve learned so much in just 1 hour!

Hello everyone I’m so glad you are here! I’ve been looking forward sharing the next step in the process of this painting - glazing different colors onto the black and white painting from last week. See link in description if you want to see the process of that one. Have a great weekend :) ►► Get my FREE GUIDE - 5 Proven Ways To Loosen Up Your Painting Style www.danishpainter.com/5-proven-ways-to-loosen-up-your-painting-style

I love your videos. Not only is the content helpful and inspiring but your voice is so relaxing. So many presenters feel that they have to shout to make their point. This tip for glazing is brilllient. No need to make up large amounts of a colour with lots of medium then try to move it a about with a paint brush for five minutes to get a smooth result, just use a damp paper towel. Why didn’t I think of that? Thank you.

I love your clear descriptions. Very helpful, thank you.
Wonderful. Can you use these techniques with water color ?
Loved it! Learnt something new. Thank you so much.
Anne Marie you remind me of Noomi Rapace, an actress who I first saw in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Anyway more to the point, thank you for illustrating this glaze lovely technique. I'll have to be patient and let my painting dry before attempting, something I'm not used to.

Absolutely beautiful. I am going to try it immediately. Thank you!
I'm incredibly new to all things art (although my mom was a painter as a hobby), so I appreciate tutorials like this. I've been making music for 34 years but I only began making art in the past few years (though I dabbled a tiny bit in the past).

I just subscribed!! This is gorgeous!! I've had a toned textured canvas (actually sort of split in half as I wanted to try out2 different textures) waiting because I want to do like some sand, but mostly ocean, but I'm dying to do it with glazing layers to have some depth and different colors show through...but I've been sort of staring at it afraid to do it....but this helped a lot :) such a beautiful painting as well! I also really really love the look of those crayons marks all over!!! I will definitely be looking for that now. Thanks so much for sharing!! I'm so excited your channel came up when I searched for help with glazing acrylics! I glanced at your other work and can't wait to watch them this week. Thanks again!!

I’ve always read that water can make glazes crack or not adhere and that glazing medium is best for thinning acrylics
Amazing thank you, I tried this but used watercolour fir the glazes very happy with the outcome

This may sound stupid but when I put yellow ochre on top of blue it turns green! How do you stop,it doing this? Will this happen if I let it dry first?
@TheDanishPainter
3 жыл бұрын
No not stupid at all. There are no silly questions and I'm glad you came foreward to ask yours! You can't avoid make green when glazing a transparent yellow on top of blue (or blue on top of yellow). If you want to avoid making green you have to use colors that is opaque (and not transparent) For examble: If you use yellow ocher (which should be opaque) straight out of the tube without adding water it should be able to cover up the blue. Also make sure all your paint layers are compleately dry before adding the next layer (or else the yellow will mix with blue and become green also) It's kind of difficult to explain in writing but I hope it makes sense. Hope that helps & please never stop asking questions because it's the only way to learn and thanks for watching!

@@TheDanishPainter thank you Marie, that makes perfect sense. Another question, why do you use water soluble crayons, could oil pastels be used instead or is it that the water soluble blend into the acrylics? On some of your paintings you don’t blend them in so that’s why I was wondering if other crayons can be use? I would have to buy water solvable crayons whereas I have oil pastels. I think I know what you will say 🤗
@TheDanishPainter
3 жыл бұрын
@@viviennewarrington8597 Excellent question. I use watersoluble ones because I know they will blend into the acrylics without any problems, they are easy to alter or remove with a brush and water. And I can easily paint over them too. But you can certainly use oil pastels or even regular pastels - I know many other artists who use those with great success. I always suggest we use what we already have and experiment. Happy painting & have fun experimenting :-)

@@TheDanishPainter thank you for your reply it really explains well how and why you use these crayons and the different effects. I knew you would say try anything, experiment! I only started painting again in this pandemic after just dabbling before. My paintings were all resembling photographs so this is really so different for me, I have to watch over and over again. I love the happy music as well.

I experiment a lot for fun and trying out new techniques. Like you I used to paint much more realistically and it has been and still is an exciting journey to find new ways of becoming more expensive and loose in my painting language. Thanks for the thumbs up and go grab those art materials 😊🎨
Hej Marie Louise. Hvilken mørk, varm, transparent gul er det, du bruger?
@TheDanishPainter
3 жыл бұрын
Hej Anne-Marie. Det er Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide. Et godt alternativ kunne være Raw Sienna som også er transparent.
Kan du fortælle mig, hvilken tape eller teknik du bruger, fordi den tape, jeg bruger, altid ødelægger mine papirer
Which is the video where you painted the black and white portion of this? I can’t find it.
