How to Give Your Abstract Painting Depth / Art with Adele

How to Give Your Abstract Painting Depth / In this video you'll discover an easy way to give your abstract painting the kind of depth that intrigues viewers. The key is to paint in layers and use techniques I show you to allow colors to rise from underneath. The first layer is filled with bright, saturated colors and then I add neutrals mixed from complementary colors.

Adele, you're awesome!!! In the last 6 months I've reinvigorated my love for art after losing all of my favorite things to a long and acute addiction...Ive been sober for almost 5 years and I'm slowly getting back into everything I used to love!!! I'm so grateful for you and your channel so much! I appreciate you! ❤

Adele I watch you videos to teach my 5 year old son. We both watch & learn. He’s into abstract art since he was 4, & has learnt so much thanks to you. I really want to join your academy for him to enhance his learning. But currently I am on waitlist. Any tips for him that you can give at this point? Thank you so much! You’re an amazing teacher.

Hi there! I actually have some resources to help teach kids art. You can reach out to my assistant at renee@artwithadele.com to explore options. The biggest tip I have is to give him lots of different simple activities to do, just to get him used to using different mediums to make stuff. Then see what he likes and build from there!

Hi Kate, yes, I do have a demo of the entire process for the painting behind me on the wall. It is inside my monthly membership, Art with Adele Academy. Please take a look because you’ll find over 190 demonstrations showing me painting the one on the wall and many others. adelesypesteynstudio.com/art-with-adele-academy

Hi Adele!! I'm a newbee to your channel and am loving every minute of my binge sessions!! Question: My muse went comatose for about 3 years, due to COVID, cancer, yada, yada, yada. Before that happened, I had been in love with mixed media abstract painting, unable to go 24 hours without a paintbrush in my hands. Since my last purchase of paints and other supplies, I am finding paint clots, separation of pigment from binder, (even after shaking the bottles like crazy), or what I call "dry rot" of my more fluid paints. Can some of these be revived and used again? or do I spend a bucket of mone,y in artistic retail therapy, to replace what I may be losing? Sorry so long winded!! Have an awesome week!!

Hi! Whew do I understand this! Sometimes in my career I've needed to take breaks too and returning to separated paint can be a real pain. As for the clotted ones, you can strain the clots out and use water or thinner to breathe new life into it. You can do this if it's just separated too, but you can also mix it on your palette with a palette knife and that should do the trick. It takes a little more elbow grease but you should be able to salvage most of it. Hope that helps!

Hello again! Sorry I didn't get to respond to your solutions right away but I only had time to "like" your comment at that moment. Thank you so much for your response to my question(s). Since reading them I have strained almost 1/2 of my fluid acrylics and was able to save almost all of them. My heavy body acrylics seem to be a different matter. I can only expect so much from supplies that have gathered dust for the past, nearly 3 years. Again, thank you for your advice and I look forward to painting with you more often!!
