How to get up and down curbs in a wheelchair

Learn the steps of successful wheelchair curb mobility. This is an essential skill for those in a wheelchair looking to fully access their community.
Brad and Seth demonstrate riding a wheelie, wheel taps on the top of the curb, riding back down the curb, successful therapist spotting techniques, and discuss some wheelchair adaptations to increase safety based on the individual in the chair. Additionally, Brad gives some tips from a therapist's point of view on what to look for in a good candidate to teach this type of technique and some safety tips for doing so.

Okay. I love this. But that is a ramp, not a curb. I am trying to get up curbs. Hopefully it is possible.

Hi Brad! Thanks for this video. I'm a paraplegic and I'm working myself on some tips to improve people's life. I'm now researching the tecnique you're showing in this video, but I have difficulties finding out the, or at least one of the people ho first invented this method. Can you help me with this? Even just a tip would be very usefull.

I'm not certain who originally came up with the technique, but it's a standardized way of teaching wheelchair skills and training for rehab professionals. Here is information on the Wheelchair Skills Test. You can download the manual wheelchair version to see common progressions/skills that rehab professionals are trying to teach: scireproject.com/outcome/wheelchair-skills-test/

What about a normal curb. That was very tall and slopped I would not call that a kerb.
