In today's video, I break down my 3 best shooting releases! Shooting release is an under talked about aspect to a players jump shot. This trick is something that has helped me really optimize my basketball shooting release. Make sure you pay close attention throughout the video so you can understand how to get the perfect basketball shooting release! These simple basketball shooting techniques are super easy to implement for players at every level. By implementing these tips into your game you can almost immediately skyrocket your shooting percentage!
My first talking point I dive in and explain to you what the 3 different shooting releases are and show you how I use each one to help my players optimize their basketball shooting release. If we look at the best shooters in the NBA think of guys like James Harden and Steph Curry they have an optimized shooting release that helps guide the ball all the way to the basket. Both shooters all get phenomenal rotation on their jump shots. When it comes to using the rubber band it's important to establish what type of shooter you are and what finger the ball last touches when you shoot. By establishing that you can figure out what finger you need to use! Now that you know how to utilize the rubber band to optimize your shooting release we move it to some drills that will help you master the perfect shooting release!
My first shooting release is a release that was used by guys like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and it's the index shooting release. This release is less commonly used however it can be effective depending on your specific shooting mechanics. If you feel like the index shooting release might fit your mechanics the best mess around with it and try to find what works for you.
My second shooting release is what I call the split finger shooting release. This one isn't very common either however like the index shooting release it can be very effective based on your mechanics.
My last shooting release is by far the most popular if amongst the best shooters in the NBA think of guys like Stephen Curry and James Harden both use the middle finger shooting release to help optimize your perfect shooting release! Make sure to implement these pro secrets to lights out shooting into your game today! These are all drills that can really help you skyrocket your basketball shooting form so make sure you work on them to optimize your shooting release.
As always make sure you are paying close attention to these basketball shooting tips so when the time comes you can really expand your game to the next level! Watch the video all the way through and implement these tips to get the Perfect Basketball Shooting Release into your game today!

Colin! Dude you are wicked awesome. I tried the 3 releases and found that the middle finger release works best for my normal shot and the first finger release is best for fade aways or contested shots where i need to release the ball as high as possible up over the top of the defender. I have now found my form and went from a very inconsistent shooter missing both L/R and short/long to making 7/9 from 3 tonight! Brother, i am so stoked to practice hard and perfect my release thanks, dude, i feel like I found my shot. Much love, keep posting!

Its ok to watch his videos about shooting forms but don't use his form. Try to find yours. Find whats comfortable. Find a shot that is going straight. No matter the form. I used to shoot great on practice but badly in games. Now i found my natural comfortable shooting form. And i did lower my shooting percantage but i increased my PPG by 7.2 points. Listen to your heart man. Lights out one day.

I am a 77 -year -old guy who was never, ever called an athlete in my whole life. But one activity that I did especially enjoy was just shooting around, although I was a terrible shot. I had always assumed that the trick was to release the ball with two simultaneous points of contact at the last instant. When I was in my 40s, I was messing around one day and discovered the index-finger-release by accident. Suddenly, instantly I was a pretty sensational shot. And nobody to notice. I went deep into the corner and popped one. Retrieved the ball, back to the corner and popped another one. I did this for about ten consecutive times when this young punk half my age wandered onto the court, and tried to be a gentleman by pitching the ball back to me. And I popped the 11th, the 12th, and the 13th looked true and was more than he could take so he knocked it down with another ball. These balls were all swishes, a lot of them the kind of swishes that seem to pop and try to jump out of a tight net because they are so dead-center. Being unfit, my range was limited to 17 or 18 feet...never really tried to shoot from further, because I knew that that was the limit at which I was comfortable strength-wise and had some control. Well, life happened and I have had little access to a court since that time. But I did get on one often enough to discover that I still had the magic, but it has been about fifteen years. I do have access to a nice indoor court court now and am going to use it one day. I still feel it...I think. I never even knew for sure that the release was "a thing" and that it was coached. But I thought it must be. Google is wonderful. About that index-finger-release...it has always seemed crazy to me. How could you design a release with less reliable control??? Only MJ, Kobe, and I knew, and now you have told the world!

So for whom who mixed it up. If you put your hand behind the ball like trying to push it you are an index-finger Releaser. If you put your hand on the top of the ball or the backside near the the top (not behind the ball) you are a split-fingers Releaser . And if you put your hand on the side of the ball or on the side near to the top you are middle-finger Releaser(the most common one) . and sorry for weak English

Nothing wrong with having different releases for different ranges. I'm more of a 1 motion, middle finger from deep twos and beyond. Then as I get closer I almost end up having a two motion release. It all has to do with power and 1 motion generates more power over greater range whereas two motion decreases power so you don't over shoot

Patrick Eve yeah i do that too but my point is you know how you dont always hold your follow thru? Its not like you decide you’re not going to on the shot. It just happens. I would hold my middle down on some shots and then do split on other shots. One day i realized that it felt like aiming got weird

Just saying, but... isn't that a topic you covered like 3 years ago? Was actually one of the first vids of you I watched (and which really helped me back then ^^). For me by the way, I tried index first, but didn't really worked for me, then middlefinger, which worked better, but I threw always short, and then I accidentally used split finger and had a good feel with it. However, I also load the ball completely on the side like you described for the middlefinger section. (Have been at 44% 3pt for the last one and a half months thanks to that stuff (even though my sample size is miniscule and not really much of a proof :P))

there is no index finger release. it works, however, but because your middle finger is longer. Thus, it is a two-finger release with the index being in the middle of bball and the middle finger being to the side of the middle line/rotation line. The split release is the same release with slightly different hand position. And you will be surprised about the three finger release - try placing your middle finger right on the groove that goes around the ball - you may be surprised that the ball doesn't want to rotate along that line. then try placing the middle finger slightly to the right of that line, see what happens. It can be different for different hands, though, that's true.

Hey coach, I notice when I shoot with my index finger, it feels more accurate but has less power. But when I shoot with my middle finger, it feels less accurate but more power. I’ve tried the split finger and it typically forces me to choose a finger mid-shot. Any theories on why this is for me? And any tips on how to change it ? Thanks coach

Paul Turner i would say use your middle finger more to get better accuracy, power really comes in clutch for 3 points ect. This is just my opinion you don’t have to listen to me

Noooooooo you should develop the more accurate finger. You wanna make all of your shots from close rather than half from long. Just keep shooting and perfecting your form and eventually you’ll gain more power.

you should either try the split finger or index finger. try to gain your power with you legs first and from time to time with you fingers

Try to use your index finger because it has more accuracy. My advice to you is practice your shooting. Like stay close to the basketball hoop and shoot 10 shots with the index finger. After that, step back further and shoot 10 shots. You will develop that power over time

Try to practice more on your index finger because it’s more accurate. Also, try to develop the index finger by putting in more reps to shooting on it. But, if that doesn’t work try your ring finger because that goes down first for me. It doesn’t hurt to try something new so on that note good luck and happy shooting.
