How to Get the Outer Case Back on your Kenmore / Whirlpool Washer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video shows you how to put the cabinet back on your washer after completing a repair. This applies to Kenmore, Whirlpool and Roper washing machines. After you are done with your washer repair, this can be the hard part.
You will usually have to remove the outer case when your washer won't spin, so you can remove the coupler or the clutch to get the washer to spin again. This will also make it easy to remove the drain pump and give you plenty of room to work.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I'm 66 years old, and a renter. My landlord isn't really on top of things when it comes to taking care of issues here, so I do whatever I can around here. I've seen a few other videos on how to replace the motor coupling, but they never show how to put the cabinet back on properly. When I put the machine back together before watching this video, when I tried to move the washing machine, let's just say it didn't go smoothly. Seriously, I really appreciate this. I searched, "replacing casing on washing machine", not expecting to see any results. Mind you, this is two hours after I quit out of frustration and had to take a shower to cool down. I'm finally in a mental space to even search for a solution. My washer is a little rusted inside, and on those rails, so the screeeech every time I tried to adjust it was driving me nuts. I finally finished replacing the clutch (that retaining ring... don't get me started), got the transmission and engine all reassembled, thinking woo hooo! It's done! OMG. Not even close with this outer casing. Thank you for making a video specifically for this. The clutch replacement videos I've been following have been extremely helpful, but all the minor, frustrating parts aren't mentioned. If you ever want to make another specific video, replacing the retaining ring (the ring that goes around the drive shaft, hooks into a hole in the clutch, then needs to be tucked in) would probably save people another few hours! About to go tackle the casing. Wish me luck!

Thank you Bill. Watched several videos on repairing the washer and I was able to successfully tear down my washer and completely repair it, but wasn't able to get the cabinet back on securely. No videos went through the steps needed. I didn't have the front lip of the cabinet slid under the frame and one side was not on the pin, so it was wobbling. Very frustrating to hear "Well, it works great now, but the whole thing is shaky." I watched your video and, in 30 seconds, I was able to get my cabinet remounted securely. Greatly appreciated!

This was the ticket Bill. I have used KZread to keep my washers going, and the case was always wonky afterwards.Today I changed a coupler, and had the same problem. I just sat there and studied it until I discovered the front lip went UNDER the frame. That got me thinking and then I found and straightened the bent pins on the sides. But it still did not all come together until I watched you show how to do it, and in tight quarters. You just made my day! Thank you for making this video!

Bill - Thanks for making this video! Even though we couldn't see too much when you aimed the camera inside the front of the cabinet, it was still extremely helpful! We had struggled with it for over an hour, and then decided to go to KZread. We should always do that first! Seeing the little clips on the outside edge at the bottom, and drawing our attention to the plastic strips on the edges of the back really helped us get it lined up correctly. We hadn't removed the cabinet to do a repair - it got knocked out of place when the washer had an unbalanced load and was banging around like crazy! I guess I didn't run fast enough to get it stopped and re-balanced. Thanks again for the great explanations, and showing a realistic situation in the basement. Keep up the great video-making!

We did somehow whack the water pump in the removal process causing it to leak, but it looked like it was on it's way out already. The reason for the plastic pieces at the back of the cabinet is to eliminate any rattle between the metal parts. Thank-you a million times over!

Thanks Bill, I have done this so many times it used to be a "non-event" thing. didn't even need to think about it. Then today, I met a washer that just had it's own idea of what was going to happen. 30 minutes of on/off/ on/off and a smack down.... Frustration rising, I sat and watched your video. I have done it many times, instinct/reflex Off/on-- no problem. I guess it was just the moment to breath I needed to walk back in there and 2 minutes later all was right with the world again. Your video is fine, no nonsense, a little dark but hey, its a basement laundry room... looks just like mine. Couldn't have done it had it been light and airy, would not have been realistic, would have been too "fluffy", couldn't work under fluffy" conditions..... Thanks again. As a poor college student who couldn't afford a repairman for our washer, let me just say THANK YOU. I used another video from BritishJames in order to figure out how to replace the pump (it was so corroded (old metal fitting instead of the newer plastic ones) that I had to bust it off with a hammer) and the direct drive (the part that was broken...though the corrosion on the pump indicated a leaky pump that needed replacing anyway). But the videos didn't tell me how to put the cover of the machine back in place. I was missing that step where I had to rock the front of the cover under the frame of the machine. A cautionary note to anyone not wanting to take the time: if you don't do this, the water inlet will not properly align with the tub of the washer, resulting in some splashing that gets around the outer rim of the tub. As this builds up, you get a waterfall that makes a mess all over your floor! Not fun.

Thank you for showing us how to do this. My GF started this project without me. I missed how the cabinet comes off. We put a new coupler in our old tank of a whirlpool. I'll never get rid of ol' Bessie ( washer not GF ). But we were having a hard time getting the cabinet back on. You explained it perfectly. We thank you good sir.

struggled with putting the cabinet back on, watched another video which had lighting problems and he didnt even pull the washing machine out to show what was going on. after watching your video I found that the "Tabs" were bent down and thats why it wouldnt go back on. NEVER would have found that watching the other video, you actually SHOWED that the tabs are built in - i was beginning to worry that i lost some parts. Thanks for doing what you do.

Dude, I cannot thank you enough I am crying tears of joy as I just changed my lid switch and was ONLY able to put it back together because of your video! Saved $150 on repair man, and gained an overwhelming sense of accomplishment that cover gets heavy when you keep putting it on and off. As far as the quality of video you just need more light that's all the fact that you covered all the bases is what's most important but as soon as I put A lamp down by my feet I was able to snap the front on and then finally the back clips could do their job! I hear the sweet sound of a spinning washer right now and it's thanks to your efforts and whoever shot the video thank you so much keep doing what you're doing!!

Bill, you are awesome! I used your other videos to repair a Kenmore that would not spin and ended up replacing both the clutch and the coupler, which were both severely worn. Believe it or not, getting the case back on was the hardest part of the whole job, so I came back to your KZread channel and you helped me out with this additional instructional video! Total cost to get this Kenmore working again: $22 for parts and a few hours of my time! Thank you!!

What a Great Help this video was today! My husband fixed the machine, but struggled quite a bit to get it put back together. Within 4 minutes, it was put back together correctly, put back in place and working! Thank you to you and your son! You were an answer to prayer!

Thank you so much for this informative video. You made this video when my Whirlpool washer was brand new. Almost exactly 8 years to the day from when I bought the washer new, the drain pump started leaking. Your video helped me get the cover back on. I wrestled with the blame thing for a couple hours and decided to go looking for some tips and pointers on how to put it back. Despite so many other videos that show how to fix different things on these washers, seemed like nobody covered the hardest part of the fixes -- the cover. Again, thank you and thumbs up!!

This is from a wife: thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! Imy husband and I have worked on my 23 year old Kenmore and I think it has been years since the cabinet was on right. We tried, but until we saw your video, we just didn't know to get the front under the lip. No more banging and rattling while it spins.

Thanks for the video. I was just about ready to throw my washer out the door because I couldn't get the darn cabinet to sit correctly. After watching your video, I realized I wasn't setting the front UNDER the frame. Once I got everything setup correctly, it all looks good. And now I could put those confounded metal clips that secure the back to the cabinet.

Thanks for this video. I had to change out my washer pump and when it came time to put the cabinet back on I couldn't get cut my darn finger in the process on the sharp edge of the cabinet. I was able with some help to get the cabinet on perfect with the help of this video. I didn't have to take the long plastic strips off. Thanks again and God Bless You!

You made getting the cabinet back on so easy. I would have never known that the front goes on under and the sides are on top of the rails. So right that it is so much harder to put things back on.

Thanks for doing this video. I took cover off replaced pump. No problem took 20 min. Then after another 30 min of putting cover on noticed it didn’t look right. Thank goodness I took the time to watch your video. Great help. I had no idea had to slip front underneath.

thank you I struggled with it for a long time I made the mistake of taking the back off first. 5 seconds into the start of your video i knew what i have been doing wrong all these years. I took everything back apart and put the back on first and then the control panel. After that it took me 15min. to put the whole thing together. My wife thanks you too

Thank you thank you thank you! Even with my disabilities I fixed my washer by myself (the lid switch had to be replaced) and shocked the heck out of my husband (who thought he had to fix it after work) all in one day! I never would have figured it out without your videos. Thanks again!
