As a fellow decorator of over 25 yrs I’m a firm believer that you can always learn useful new tips no matter how experienced you are . The hairline cracks and using drill holes b foam especially . It worked for me very well . Do you quote your jobs allowing extra time for the processes you use as I’d love to be able to work the way you do. I always do a good job but from your videos your work is mostly high end stuff . I’ve worked many years as a subby or employed so rarely have had the chance to be given enough time to be able to work the way you do if you Understand what I mean . I assume you work for yourself I am tempted to go this way myself as I’d love to be able to have higher end projects . Much respect to you and your craftsmanship my friend

Try Abranet sand paper to reduce pilling on the first stage of sanding. If you get the sanding block with hose adaptor it gets rid of most of the dust immediately. With Abranet and good dust extraction a 400 grit will give results like this. Also I get cheap microfibre cloths to use before the tack cloths. Unfortunately most customers aren't willing to pay for this level of proper work. Good video .
Discovering this in lockdown. All your vids have been really helpful, really informative.

wet sanding is good but on a get in get it done job ,for me its a flat base,oil put some owatrol in the paint,water based finish,add some floetrol
Hello Sir,Do you thin paint down when your painting window sills and bannisters.I am currently using Trade Dulux satinwood and I’m finding it quite thick.Cracking video as usual.
This was so satisfying to watch! I didn't think of wet sanding and it leaves such a good finish! Can I ask which type of paint you used? Also when considering sanding larger areas such as bannisters etc which type of sanding machine would you recomend? I'm trialling out of lot of methods, not much else to do in lockdown. Thanks for the upload too
that’s all well and good, but what about when you’ve got a whole room, or house to do? That would be 2 weeks sanding.
Very good informative videos from you .. ive watched lots of them and certainly enjoy your attention to detail and full explanations great workmanship
Fantastic video. I am in the middle of sanding 3 floors worth of glossed bannisters, skirting boards and 7 doors. I have dry sanded them, but thinking I may take the extra time to wet sand them just so that the oil based satinwood goes on a lot smoother. Unfortunately as I understand it there is no quick and fast way to do this.

Thank you and unfortunately not, the only best way is to keep at it. Have a system on how you sand and dust, work out if it's worth sanding the lot before you get your paint out. Radio on.
looks great. Always a fan of your work. Cheers.

The difference can be seen so it's then up to the individual how to finish their project. Decent enough demonstration I'd say.

Maybe someone can invent some sort ofadjustable dust guard that sits over cills whilst they're drying . It is annoying to get a mirror finish then come back later and have specks of dust all over it.Nice vid bud.👍
Is this the difference between wet and dry sanding or just sanding one more than the other until the grain is less than the other one?
Nice DEMONSTRATION mate..some.comments dont seem to grasp that its a demonstration as such. Nice work as always . 👍🏻👍🏻

Can I use a non drip high sheen dulux brilliant white gloss pain to pain my window cills
How many layers are there? Primer, undercoat and overcoat or just 2?
Palm sander with 80 grade paper first and finish with 240 would have achieved a better finish,grain was far too prevalent to use 240 grade first. Oh and only use one side of the kettle?
Need to use a hd roller much smoother finish no brush strokes
tip i heard for dust was to steam the room as the water will grip to the dust and help to make it settle.kettle with lid off might be an idea.
On a building site this is impossible , keeping dust down in any environment is impossible
I love your videos. I'm trying to move away from oil-based for interiors. I was wondering if you have any videos on getting a nice flat finish with water based trim paints?
@PaintingandDecorating

No... you will never get as good as finish as oil.. water just doesn't sit the same nor is it as hard wearing.. some satin water based or about as good as you get.. Zinsser do some hard wearing satin.. thanks

I put a gripper type primer on the wood as my 1st coat, do I sand that before I paint with my 2nd coat, or do I sand after 3rd coat of paint?

Wow! no undercoat. If you were to use an u/coat repeat the wet & dry you can get a mirror finish as the undercoat will fill any small imperfections. Oh! and be careful getting water on the bare wood as it will lift the grain in the wood.

With a sill wonder if its worth taping some old paper across the bay area to keep out dust ......

It may work but best just to shut windows and stay out of the room till dry.
Ive gone with wet sanding for years and swear by it.the finish is amazing.....not suitable when carpet is down though.

You can't dry sand inside your house and definitely not in someone elses. Waterproof dustsheets down and wet sand tidily.
I would have thought if you were in the trade you would know the correct terminology. I am assuming when you say window sill, you mean window bottom or window board. The window sill is what the window, and window board sits on. The sill is the bottom horizontal frame section of the actual window.

Good on ya mate good video The thing I notice is here in Australia with new houses on the east coast where I am the internal window sills and surrounds are “wood” but it’s not real wood it’s this paper like board called “Hobbywood” it’s almost like chipboard but instead of being made out of chips seems to be made out of sawdust and paper or something and I’ve got a theory that because there’s no grain per-se there’s no need to wet sand it.... We’ll see
Should this be applied for scirting boards too?
@PaintingandDecorating

you can if your after the best work possible... but generaly a duster is good enough
Its hard to get a perfect finish..at the end of the day its all about drawing the line at hours spent achieving the perfect finish and losing money doing it.

If you would have sanded the wood first then you wouldn't have to deal with the planer machine marks showing through. I only use wet and dry on really badly painted pieces and I dry sand/ denib on pieces I am painting from scratch.
Basically don't use pine, use mdf

You do on paint line in the middle then spread it out to the edges then lightly go across the length . To much paint on that brother

Bro you are painting a house, not a car. Who the hell is going to spend hours wet sanding. 😂
@adriansandry2783

Wet sanding is actually at least as fast or faster than dr sanding, depending on what level of finish you want. This is because it cuts the paint more quickly and efficiently. Also wet & dry 320 or 280 has a lot more cutting particles per square inch than say a piece of of P80, so it's obvious it will key and abrade a lot quicker. Also, does not clog, and there is no dust.

You mean to tell me 4 hours more work with a higher grit sand paper does a better job!? Well I'll be damned.
