The HKS T04Z is by far the best sounding turbo wise. Sounds pretty spot on compared to the turbo spool in the movie.

@@pxndxlunx5821 The way I see it: if the production starts again, especially if the new-production R34 would be sold/legal in USA, that immediately cuts the price down since they would become less rare. Also there would be a boost to the spare parts market for R34's. Also since it's an older car I imagine the high-quality parts would be easier and thus cheaper to produce. They could just reuse the VR38DETT from the R35 if RB26 would be too costly to make again for some reason. I can see quite a lot of Americans buying it if it costs 40-50k or less with credit or just outright due to the higher pay-rates there.

Craig Lieberman (The guy who built the actual 2F2F Skyline said that the sound was taken from both a 2Jz and an RB30 with big cams. So an RB30 with big cams, slot on a T51R turbo and you’re there.

Dude you just cleared something I always had a big doubt. The sound from Brian's Skyline is so different from most RB26s (they sound much deeper) that I thought they recorded a 1JZ for the movie. Really, good job!

This video literally just made me smile for so long. Absolutely love the sound of that R34 from the movie and you proved its possible. Now just to achieve the dream and get one.

I like the r32 with the Trust t78. There’s just something about it that just sounds beautiful!

And you got to remember these are old school parts during the golden ages of car parts

The single turbo setup actually makes perfect sense. Single turbo is better for drag racing, and as Brian mostly drag races in the earlier movies, it makes sense that he would run a single turbo. He has the technique to win the more cornering focused races, like the one at the start of 2 Fast 2 Furious, so he set up his car to more easily win drag races

@@wesleyaitken8756 I explained it in a different comment. Basically, an extra turbo doesn't increase your total power output, it just makes that power get delivered more smoothly. It also prevents you from running giant turbos, since you need the space for both turbos and to connect them to the rest of the engine accordingly. A single larger turbo is worse for cornering because of turbo lag, but turbo lag isn't an issue when you're going in a straight line. Bigger turbo means more top end power, but worse turbo lag

@@filmandfirearms If you're only looking at the turbo, yes. There are other variables that play a factor though. It's not as simple as "1 big turbo = lag." Anything with variable valve timing doesn't have this issue.

Peter Paul yes, induction noise itself is enough to just generate the noise but if *you want to replicate* Brian’s skyline then it would be advised to install a screamer pipe. However, I would recommend against having one in a street car because I’m sure your non enthusiast neighbors don’t want to hear your crack gate at 2 am after hill runs.

Guys I made a forum post about this specific sound in Need for Speed Heat at the request of an EA employee that I’d contacted. They said that if enough people comment it and support it then they’ll consider it. Nothing even to do with the f&f franchise, just making it sound accurate if we change to a single turbo set-up or maybe an engine swap to achieve that sound. The forum is in the EA NFS Heat General discussion called NFS HEAT - SKYLINE RB26 SINGLE TURBO SOUND PETITION/POLL. It’s gotten a fair amount of +1 votes already. I figured that would be really helpful for people wanting to confirm for sure that they were getting what they were after

the second clip sounds exactly like the movie

I've broken an SSQV from playing with it (boost n release) too much. Incidentally, with blow off valve seal compromised, a friend said the car sounded like a jet (lots of constant whoosh and whine). I highly recommend the Top Speed Pro 1 exhaust for an RB. Reasonable price, great sound. The exhaust also sounds great on an SR.

I love how 2F2F used different "Kits" to make the best sound!

In 2 Fast 2 Furious all the Skylines were GT-Rs with the front driveshafts removed, but in the fourth film they mostly used GTTs (some say they had at least one real GT-R)

Reason is because all 6 primaries are merging into 1 point (the turbine), so you get the true sound of exhaust pulses escaping every 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation... And you'll notice that with this setup, straight 6s sound a bit similar to V12s with their exhaust pulses escaping every 60 degrees... They sound higher pitched because they're running at a higher frequency, but I forget how many octaves above they are over the straight six. But it is definitely a some multiple, maybe 2. However. It's good that you specified which turbos to use. I think that if you try and use a newer precision or Borg Warner, you might be disappointed with the sound. They have newer twin scroll technology and different ports and vanes and shit which may affect sound. I think it's the older Japanese turbos which allow all the pulses to dump into on point which will produce this sound.

First of all I absolutely love all of the tech info behind why these setups create this sound. And yeah I’ve noticed newer turbos don’t make this sound which is a shame, that’s why I included part numbers so people at least know what to look for.

@@TheRacingJoker yes I love the tech details as well, because I've been wondering how to get this sound for about a decade. It was very satisfying when I figured it out. I also found a video of a Nissan Patrol, they're popular in the middle East. Naturally aspirated 4 litter inline 6. A company called American racing (I think) made a one piece 6-1 header for that particular vehicle. I saw one equipped with that header in a video... It sounded just like Brian's R34 but at lower rpms (and I think in the movie, it sounded like Brian was short shifting throughout most race anyway. A couple times he did come closer to redline. But RB26s tend to scream more at 8000 rpms).

@@ellisjackson3355 I agree there were only two times where you could hear the RB26 coming close to redline in the movie, the rest of the time it sounds like low to mid range RPMs.
