Great video - having AR's, Pistols like the 1911 - all cartidge - haven't actually got round to black powder but developing an interest - its great you can enjoy them in the UK - bout time you guys had a 2nd equivalent like here in the states!

Many thanks for this video! Nice to see one on this subject from our side of the Atlantic. I'm an Englishman living in France. You can buy a Black Powder Revolver straight off the shelf here, all that is required is a peice of ID such as a passport or Drivers License. Howevcer, you do need a 'Category C' License to buy powder or made up paper cartridges. I have a Remington 1858 pattern by Pietta, and am enjoying it so much that I am not going to bother getting the 'Category B' license to obtain more modern firearms. Making up the cartridges, experimenting with different loads of powder etc is all part of the fun you dont get with a more modern 'Point n' Squeeze' firearm.

I wasn’t aware these were legal in the UK. Here in the US I have a license to carry any modern handgun concealed (under strict regulations and only in certain states!), but I still carry a percussion revolver. They still work as well as any modern gun when you successfully manage their idiosyncrasies. Great for ranch and range use.

Please explain any situation at all to me, that you would rather have a cap and ball gun rather than a self loading handgun?... it just makes no sense, you can get more than 10 rounds in a compact semi auto handgun nowadays and you can mout rds on them pretty regularly. The 365xl is in a way the perfect carry gun.

@@PyroMite0213 Because I have carried plastic 9 mm’s for years and got sick of them. They all have as much soul as electric screwdrivers. Each of my cap and ball guns have their own personalities. They have unique combinations of powder, cap, and projectile they like, and ones they don’t. To get mine to 99% reliability has been an adventure that taught me gunsmithing, engineering, reloading, and marksmanship all in one hobby. Further, I am intimately connected to every aspect of firing each of my guns and could even manufacture for myself every element of the firearm that makes it function if ammo becomes unobtainable. I can cast the lead balls or bullets, mill the powder from charcoal, saltpeter, and sulphur, make the caps out of pop cans and priming compound, and hand file replacement parts if necessary. While ammo availability has declined, I’ve kept shooting so often that I actually shoot a percussion revolver just as well or BETTER than a subcompact 9 mm. And the pride I’ve earned by making 170 year old technology WORK is much greater than I ever felt lobbing overpriced factory hollowpoints out of a polymer gun at paper. While the person with 15 rounds in their magazine hoards their ammo or goes broke staying proficient at an indoor range, I shoot 200 shots a month in the great outdoors at used soda bottles for cheap and clean up with plain soap, water, and vegetable oil. I also find that percussion guns don’t make nonshooters as nervous, because they look traditional and people who know guns understand the hard work and discipline it takes to make one function and dare to rely on it. It’s the most fun martial art I’ve ever trained and it has made me a better shooter with any type of gun, old or new. I would challenge serious shooters to a simple goal: learn to make an 1851 Navy replica shoot 6 times without a malfunction out to 21 feet with at least 200 foot pounds (271 joules) energy per shot. Figuring out how to do that will only make a good shooter better. And since that’s the gun I shoot best and most often, that’s the one I have on hand when needed.

I discovered your channel this evening, Cool! Indeed, black powder is Lovely! I have a Navy 36 and Army 44 both Pietta and a 50 cal. Hawken replica. But perhaps my favorite is my 1829 N. Starr Army issue that was originally flintlock and converted to cap and ball by the military. It is 69 cal. and I restored the smooth bore gun about 10 years ago. It’s fun to shoot and I did have a gunsmith check everything and clean the bore before I fired it. One needs to be careful firing a nearly two century old musket. Thanks Kindly and I have subscribed. @@IRateGuns well. To own new type not BP guns we need training and license, yet we may buy freely every replika of front loaded BP gun if it is a replica of a weapon created Before 1885. We can just go pick it up pay and go. To buy BP we need to pay for European blackpowder weapon card where we need to have at least one gun typed in. But, there are no restrictions to receive a gift on BP and storing it do if you do not want authorities to know that you have it, you do not need to register. But owning EBpWC is far more convinient than to find someone to "give in present" some BP. Yet we cannot legally posses the new BP guns that are usually more safe than replicas of old guns. That is of course without a special permission like for normal new guns.... Sorry if my english is poor ;-)

The gun laws in the UK are extemely strange to me. For instance, pistols are Okay as long as they are 15cm(not sure how long) so they end up with a piece of metal out the butt and a long muzzle. And you are a member of a gunclub. Now say I'm a criminal, whats stopping me from just sawing that off and calling it a day. Would a member of a registered hobby gun club abuse a weapon? I dont get it.
