HOW TO: Get Started Foiling

Спорт

Foiling behind the boat is a ton of fun, but can be a little tricky to get started. In this video, I break down some of the basic tips that have been the most helpful to me with learning to ride a foil behind the boat.
Starting with your gear - Having your mast positioned towards the back of the board will help you control the lift of the board. I ride a Ronix foil setup that is great, but they also make a shift mast that is the perfect setup for learning to foil - Check out Ronix's foil options here: ronixwake.com/products/all-foils
Next, The driver plays a massive role in helping the rider learn to foil. Starting really slow, and keeping the rider behind the boat, or even slightly off to the side are the big keys for the driver.
Getting up on a foil is pretty similar to a wake surf board, however, there are some big differences. The main one is the need for front foot pressure. When wakeboarding or wake surfing the "safety mode" is leaning back; foiling, however, relies on front foot pressure to keep the board down on the water. Having as much weight as possible over your front foot will help keep it under control as you get started.
Once you're up, the goal is to immediately get out away from the wakes so that you can focus on learning how to control the wing and mast underneath the board. this can be a challenge but it's a ton of fun once you get the hang of it!
Stay tuned for part 2 of this video that will get into how to actually catch the wave as you're foiling.
Hope this is helpful! If you have any foil-related questions feel free to leave 'em here! thanks for watching🙏

Great video, loving the shift mast setup so far. Having some good success with the first wave but struggling with getting the 2nd wave, maybe some pointers there for the next video?

From your experience, what watersport is the most fun and beginner-friendly when being towed behind a jetski? Foiling, wakeboarding or water skiing? We just got a jetski and we’re trying to decide which one to get into

I’d say they can all be a blast, but wakeboarding behind the jetski is probably the most versatile!

I see you stole my patented move! Thay would be pulling down the shorts adter you get up. 😂 Seriously, thanks for the video. Our boat doesnt make a great wave so getting rod of the wake surf rope is difficult and since my end goal is foilboarding i figure eff it, im switching to foilboarding instead. I already hydrofoil on the air chair so i get that part. Now i gotta get a foilboard and get back out there.

How fast are you going while riding?

I think 9-10mph is a good place to be when you’re just starting, and then 11.5 or so tends to work well once you’ve gotten comfortable on the board and start flying the wing!
