    Hi Dr simi how are you doing... I get eczema often on my face and each time I try to treat it with a product It starts clearing and in no time I start having hyper pigmentation... Yes! And then my skin starts looking dry immediately after I shower with white patches... I really need help😭 nothing just seems to work on my skin especially my face, I feel my skin is too sensitive to products

  • @DrSimiAdedeji

    @DrSimiAdedeji

    Hi. Thank you for your comment. Acne scarring is a common problem so many people suffer from acne. True scarring (not hyperpigmentation - which may people also refer to as scarring) is due to loss of collagen in the skin from the inflammatory process of acne. Treatments such as chemical peels and microneedling can help. I've had a few requests about this topic so I will be covering this in my next videos where I will be able to explain in more details what causes acne scarring and the best options treat it.

    Hi. Thank you for your comment. I'm really pleased that you are enjoying my content. There are lots of treatments that can help with hyperpigmentation - I guess it depends what you mean by 'natural'. A lot of the skin brightening ingredients used in skincare originate from plant sources, mushrooms etc. However due to demand, the same ingredients or the extract from the plant that is responsible for the brightening effect is synthesised commercially for use. It is a chemical but so are the 'natural' ingredients. The chemical structure is often identical and works in the same way.

    Hi Dr. Simi. Just discovered your videos, love them. I have a question. My mother has hyperpigmentation around her eyes and on her cheeks (a mask) from her pregnancies. She's now in her early 60s but is really self conscious about it. Can a chemical peel help? Also, I have noticed that my lips, especially my upper lip got darker these past years. Is this also hyperpigmenation and how can I treat it? (I do have to mention I have a pretty complex medical history so maybe that could be the cause).

    Hi Muabana. Thank you! I'm so pleased that you are enjoying my video content. Yes, chemical peels can help melasma if combined with good quality home care products and sunscreen at all times- even when indoors. In my experience, you generally need all aspects of this to get an effective result from treating melasma. Your lips can get darker due to hyperpigmentation for several reasons. This could be due to sun exposure- (e.g.not wearing SPF on your lips), trauma or injury to the lips (e.g. having cold sores/cracked lips/ lip biting out of habit), certain medication, hormonal causes and certain medical conditions. It can be treated by using products that contain tyrosinase inhibitors and also some clinics offer laser treatments and chemical peels for this. Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your suggestion. It has been noted. Blackheads are part of the acne spectrum and are considered as early acne lesions. There are different ways to treat them and some great ingredients that can be used that can really help. I will be discussing this in more detail soon.

    I do hope you see this comment because I might make a wrong decision if you reply months later😂 I live in a small city in Ukraine with a few blacks so I might not find a doctor who has enough experience with black skin. And I have dark knees,elbows and knuckles(since I was little) so I would like to know what peel to start with so I can tell the doctor because I really don’t want more hyperpigmentation
