Follow along this journey as I trap, release, and fall in love with a beautiful groundhog.
Nuisance wildlife trapping is an important part of pest control! Not all pests are bugs. There are many pests that are considered Nuisance Wildlife. I believe in safe, harmless trapping techniques for these animals. We use live trap cages and you can use them too! Thank you guys for watching :)

Fun videos! If apples and these other vegetables are “in season” they tend to avoid the traps. That’s my experience anyway. The one thing that works every time and within a few hours is cantaloupe. They can smell it from a mile away and can’t resist. Each state law is different but here in North Carolina I am allowed to transport the whistle pig 🤣 to another location. That location needs to be at least 5 miles away or they will simply return. I removed 7 in one season a few years ago so trust me cantaloupe simply works and works fast. Also, thanks for releasing it far away as I saw one fellow here on KZread trap one then release it just down the street into someone else’s back yard. That was simply mean but since he was doing pest control he was making sure he had job security. 💪🏼😎👍🏼

Saw idiot creature going in the new screen on second floor this am. SECOND floor! No tree access, no ladders. closed all the doors, windows hoping to cook it and set trap with cantaloupe rind. Had noticed them back in yard other day and was thinking of putting broken glass in holes since can't recycle anymore. This battle has been 5 yrs but today is major escalation.

@@cherylcarlson3315 Put a cup of castor oil along with a cup of unscented dish soap into a garden hose sprayer then spray into all the holes you are able to find as well as a barrier around your property line. They will be gone in a few minutes. Spraying the holes works best if you catch them while they’re out and about. They just won’t go back inside.

The woodchuck shown is actually an adult. We have caught hundreds of them over the past 30 years, taking 142 in one season without the use of bait. In fact we went baitless 15 years ago. Double door traps are best by far, when used in "positive" den sets at the opening with an an accompanying nose cone, wire or metal. We have developed the most productive system on the planet using double door Comstock wire trigger cage traps. The traps are indestructible, virtually escape proof once the doors close and lock. A double door Comstock cage is placed in front of a den with a nose cone, joining the hole to the trap. All the chuck has to do is move. This system will catch them coming or going, while using no bait at all, ever, which means non targetted animals are rarely captured in a system that is maintenance free. We have passed this info on to hundreds in animal damage control over the years. None have ever returned to baited trapping with single door traps. The national organization, NWCOA has recognized the superiority and importance of this system in dealing with woodchucks to be promoting it in the future. Additionally the same techniques for groundhogs can be applied to skunks and armadillos using the same equipment.

Crazy how ugly and small things get treated like pests, while attractive and larger things are treated with empathy. I think all things should be treated with care for their life, just like this groundhog, despite the extra effort. Love it or leave it
