Must be easy on the nerves. I hope Stihl comes out with an electric Kombi head that's practical soon. I predict most electric string trimmers will have pivoting heads soon. So you can adjust to the exact angle you need for your height. No reason not to since the motor is in the head. Have you noticed every pro demonstrating string trimmers on YT is bending over? I'm really curious if the trimmers Stihl sells in Germany have the same issue. They use average heights to develop products. American trimmers are no longer made for Americans. Once people figure out they are going to be very angry.

i think walking backwards is superior as you can continually monitor your edge line, walking forward you can lose sight or angle of what you have done behind you. same rationale that works with cutting hedges.

If you don't believe me just start talking about something VERY random. Start talking about buying a car. And buying a car lot. I give it less than a few days and you will see ads for cars. Just read google privacy terms and agreement its all there unfortunately......The future......>Where there will be no such thing as privacy. Everyone will be alike.... #TheEndsNear

I prefer to walk backwards because it allows me to see the full length of the cleaned line and allows for a better finish in one pass. I can go forward if its a touch up and the line is clearly visible but if its heavily overgrown backwards is a must IMO.

Nice tips, that flower bed looks fantastic! Since I started to learn how to use a straight shaft trimmer, the head turns the opposite direction from my old curved shaft so that was a learning curve. I found that I like to walk forward, left-to-right. It cuts using the right side if the head around the 2-3 o'clock position, throwing the grass clippings away from me. But it really depends on where I am in my yard and what I'm doing. Like you said there is no right or wrong way!

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzread.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Thanks for the video; it was instructive. I like this video because you aree using an electric trimmer rather than gas. I have post polio syndrome and lifting is a real problem and while I considered an electric trimmer I never got to it. What you did not point out was the nice "ditch" between the mulch and grass. You can cut that ditch with a sharp shovel and then pull tthe mulch back with a rake. Schneebor makes a great rake for the mulch. It is like most iron garden rakes but has fewer teeth so the space between the teeth is larger.

He is actually pro hahaha. I work in that profession and can say that’s one of the best videos on edging I’ve seen all day.

I know this is from 2019 but I'd like to say that walking backwards while cutting a vertical line has everything to do with which direction the head spins. Most trimmers spin to the left, thus allowing for a smooth, even approach to the grass.

I find that walking backwards works best for me as far as keeping debri off of me and cutting more precise. 3
