How To Get Over A Nasal Voice!
I would like to give a shout out to Fran Drescher for her amazing performance in “The Nanny”. Part of what is so memorable about her character is her incredibly nasal voice! WOW! It was fun to watch, but if you find that people are commenting on your nasal voice, it might not be so fun. Here are some simple steps to fixing it.

This is going to take a lot of practice. I've been practicing abdominal breathing because I have asthma and with all my medications my highest peak flow is 320. I hope this helps because I can't stand to hear my own voice

Hi @DellaDykeborn - take your time doing this. Supporting your voice with your deeper breath will help. So will lifting your soft palate. Take it slowly. Let us know how it goes!
This help me find more resonance and actually open my voice up and help with my breathing
Awesome for him to mention Franny 'cause that was a great show!

Another way of finding out if you're using a nasal voice is by pinching the nose, it shouldn't cause a large difference if most of the air is being sent through the mouth (only for 'm' and 'n' sounds which do require nasal airflow)

I've had a habit of speaking through my nose since I was about 14 years old. I want to stop talking through my nose and I know how to fix my voice, but the awkwardness of changing my voice randomly one day makes me not want to do it. I'd feel like an idiot making a fake voice

How about practicing in situations where you’re with people you don’t know: the supermarket, coffee shop, on vacation. Act as if that were your voice, even if you keep it up for two minutes. In order to make changes, it takes action. Practicing with people who don’t know you could be just the action to get you started! Let me know how it goes.

@@pmz Thanks Patrick, I have been consciously making that effort in front of of strangers but somehow I always loose that consciousness and still trying to make it my normal sound for 3-4 years. Any suggestion to make it my normal voice. I think I picked the nasal sound from my improper signing.
Now this video help me. Thanks. I was looking this for the whole day.
For as long as I remember I've had a hyponasally voice. I think I just may have found a cure for it. Thanks so much Patrick, you're a champ. (hope this works for hyponasality)

Im both nasally and I also stutter alot. That's why everytime I talk with my friends they always can't understand what I've just said because of nasally plus stuttering. My teacher once noticed it when I talked and she says "oh that's very much of a nasal speaking (kind of like that. Cant explain it much in english). That's why I'm loosing confidence to talk as much as I wanted to.

Should have seen this earlier Having a nasal voice is really troublesome In my adolescence period,I would avoid talking as much as possible,which really affected my life in a way that Im not very approachable or boring to be around And its very tiring to repeat what you say;like when you have a conversation and your voice is not clear and you have to repeat a few times And I had a incident in a city bus when I was 21 or something,I met my close friend in a bus and talked to him and two girls around my age near us were laughing at my voice as we speak,quite a depressing experience

Great question @Cris AF! Just for practice. Notice how a more open mouth really opens up your voice. Then carry that resonance and depth when it comes to your everyday speech! Then me know how it feels for you!

@pmz

Hi @Fatima Osman - if you practice it daily, are mindful when you speak and keep at it, yes, you can permanently change. And even if it’s not “permanent,” but you have control over it, that in itself will be a huge improvement.

Does a tight tongue-tie affect nasal voice and ability to fix it?
@pmz
2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Elana Horowitz - yes, a tongue-tie can affect your speech as well as your voice. Since a tongue-tie doesn’t affect the back of your tongue, try lowering the back of your tongue and raising your soft palate as you release on an “oh” and “ah” and see how much you can get away from that nasality. Let us know how it goes!

My two older brothers have been speaking in nasal voice ever since ever and after they started to live separately with their little families their voices became more high pitched that I felt like asking them to correct their pitches, I don't know if they just wanted to talk cutely in front of my parents or what But this is not the reason that made me watch this video tho, it's because I started to use nasal voice to sound more 'friendly' and it started to make my throat uncomfortable.
