How To Get Invited To A King's Private Island Paradise

I live a weird life. Meeting a down to earth king, being personally driven to his private island for the night, all so that I can say thank you to an organization most of you will have never heard of before. So that maybe you might even think about someday how you might want to bring your conservation skills to Micronesia and donate your time and experience to a Rohsa just trying to do the right thing.
If you'd like to help by sending an email (or donating) to OneReef, you have my sincere thanks: info@onereef.org
If you'd like to take it a step further and visit Ant the hard way (have a genuine desire and plan to help) - let me know. I'll be sure to push you in the Rohsa's direction.
Thanks for watching everyone and have a great holiday - we'll be back after xmas.

    This was a great video. I do wish we could have heard King William speak a little bit. That being said, I just made a contribution to One Reef. I don't have a lot of money so it wasn't a huge donation or anything, but thanks for alerting me and everyone else to this organization. Maybe one day I will meet Willy myself. As someone with a masters degree in sociology, thinking about the problems Ant Atoll is trying to tackle is fascinating and daunting all at once.

    I lived on Pohnpei in the early 1990's for about 5 years - and was fortunate to visit Ahnd (Ant) atoll a few times - including an overnight visit. Dolphins escorted us through the channel and into the lagoon, and we tasted some of that amazingly sweet coconut crab. An experience I will never forget!

    @@westrim No one said Kauai anything. I said Hawaii. You can easily look at a map and see there are several islands. And I did not say there was anything wrong with them. I pointed out that these are uncommon, less developed and therefore better. Have you ever gone anywhere?

  • @westrim

    @westrim

    5 ай бұрын

    @@angelinvocon I said Kauai, and what process of thinking leads you to think that a person who knows about Kauai doesn't have at least general knowledge about the major islands of the Hawaiian island chain? It's hard to square your saying that "there's nothing wrong with them (presumably the Hawaiian islands)" when you smack talk them. So I repeat my question, in greater detail; you speak of all the concrete in Hawaii, but Kauai still has a fairly rural feeling outside of Lihue. So what's wrong with Kauai? Just the fact that there ARE more than a handful of people living there? Nevermind that it's dozens of times bigger than Ant, of course. Hawaii has dozens of those islands too, they're just not open for general habitation. It also has other minor islands like Ni'ihau, with a grand total population of around 100. If you're just lamenting that you're not rich/lucky/timely enough to end up on a sparsely populated island or even one of your very own, well, you're in good company. But crapping on the Hawaiian islands without discretion as a "concrete monster" well, that's just unfounded, rude, and not really fair outside of Oahu (and maybe Maui, but I never went there, and concrete doesn't fit my impression of the island).

So he also acts the good King in some ways, like this King. So I'm also going to applaud this King, this Rosha: He's ruling the right way, the true kingly way, looking forward for his people. The most humble monarch I've ever heard of. William Hawley's story reminds me of the Afro-Bolivian Monarchy, a ceremonial chiefdom officially recognized by the Bolivian government in 2008, and led by King Julio Pinedo. This dynasty arose among imported enslaved African people who were put to work in Bolivia. One of these slaves was recognized by his fellow enslaved people as belonging to one of the African royal families, and upon emancipation they rallied around him as a leader in his community. Today King Julio runs a small store and farm in his village of Muruata, deep in the Andean jungles of Bolivia. Though he lacks any official power, he serves as an ambassador of the historically marginalized Afro-Bolivian culture. The Afro-Bolvian Monarchy is the the only remaining monarchy within the Americas. If your journeys ever take you to Bolivia, @RareEarthSeries , you should definitely check it out!

    Long live the King. Also we always say how great your channel is, but I just realized this is the best show ever made since the PBS Rick Steve's style travel vlogs used to air. Merry Christmas Dude

    This channel does incredible work. I hope one day to be able to do something approaching the good you do. And I hope that if I ever do get do at least visit this amazing island, that I'm able to do something good while I'm there. I'm going to keep trying.

    I am lucky to have found this Video - LOVE all the "unspoilt" places in the Pacific ....... and wherever such still exist on the Planet. Now, I have to see HOW I can try to get to visit this unspoilt place for a few days?

    The only way to spend the night is to help the Rohsa in a way that gets yourself invited. But I assure you, it's worth it.

    I come original from the netherlands but live in the fillipines . I see the same pollution and problems as on this beautiful island ant ... My house is also on the beach and in a small rural village. Every morning I collect plastic garbage from the beach ☹️. At first the locals thought I was crazy for cleaning up the beach but after a few years i see more locals trying to take care of the area. The biggest problem is that they don't have the resources to deal with garbage collection on a huge scale and on the same are overwhelmed by the amount of industrial garbage that we consume everyday. They used to throw it in the ocean or bury it in the soil in pits. But later generations grow food on these buried garbage pits. As a result you can see in children what pollution can do in the human body. The soil that produce food and the fish they eat have high levels of heavy metals , micro plastic and pcb's. As a result there are woman with still born children , disease associated with pollution and more. The people realize this and want to change but politicians and industry are holding them back
