How to get help on your BMW - Fixes - Parts - Prices

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video is all about getting help on your BMW - spares, part lists forums and more, although the procedure is for the E31, E32, E38 and E63/E64 6-Series, 7-Series and 8-Series - you can use the same routines for all BMW's
We look at the best parts lists, diagrams, forums and sites to help you repair your BMW for the least money, avoiding the main dealers. We go through a complete routine from looking at the fault - getting help using a special search term and then finding diagrams that show the parts lists - and then finding the cheapest parts that exactly match your BMW
It's pretty simple as long as the routine is followed in full - good luck!

Timm, I visited your Meeknet site out of curiosity and found it very informative. Thanks for just being there giving what I consider good information to the public. I don't own either of the vehicles you have but I like BMWs and find it interesting to see and learn of the models on your side of the pond which are not sold on my side of the pond. 👍😎 ( By the way I am in the United States).

Hi Timm. My name is Ragim, im from Russia. I own a 1993 bmw 840i. I have a problem with the steering gear. There is no information about these cars in Russia, since almost everyone has an 850 with an m70b50. Tell me, are the insides (gears) of the steering gear from the 840 identical to the insides of the 850/750? If possible, please reply to me in private messages.

Hi Timm, I have an E63 650i (2008) and live in Australia. Unfortunately I only discovered your site in the past 3 months and it is brilliant for anyone like me who doesn't have much mechanical/ electrical knowledge. I previously owned a E46 330ci (2000) which was a brilliant car, but the E63 is a lot more involved. I have had the 650i for 3 years and has 90,000 klms on it, and have replaced the rocker cover gasket and the alternator bracket gasket. No smoke, all else brilliant so am following you with your advice to keep it that way. Thanks for your fantastic information - keep it up ! Regards, Don Miller

Another very informative video Timm. Wish I could have seen it about 7 years ago! Anyhow, the drier on the 1998 car that I am (still!) restoring was completely rotted away. I work for Euro Car Parts and got a Hella replacement, which is OE quality, through ECP for not that much money, about £40 rings a bell. I am due to replace all the O rings in the system. Keep the vids and info coming mate, you are a massive help and influence to us all. PS looks like you shot this video in my old bedroom!

Lots of good info. My problem over the years has been purchasing sub-standard parts, particularly suspension parts. I've lost count of the number of rear rose joints (the ball joint) I have been through on the E38. My list goes on and on, it's almost as if only about a third of the parts I have replaced have lasted more than a year or so. The upsetting thing is all the parts I have fitted have been brands of parts used by local workshops, sometimes purchased from the same factors. Now I am trying to do more research and trying to stick to makes of parts that supply car makers themselves like Lemforder or TRW or Textar. Even my "febi" coolant expansion tank on my Z3 only laster just over a year..so that puts febi off my list.

If it is a part that is reasonably cheap (like brake reaction arms and bushes) but a pain to fit I always buy directly from BMW - I hate parts that last a year and then give up meaning I have to do the job again.

You are a font of knowledge for the E31, thanks for you dedication to the E31. Just done a trip from the UK to Austria and back in my CSI and oh what a joy of an engine. My AC has stopped working, should the engine revs drop when the AC button pressed? If so would this indicate a compressor clutch issue?

The best way forward here is to get the system regassed with one of the automatic machines - it will tell you if it has a leak which is always the best place to start. Without refrigerant pressure the compressor will not run

Hi Timm, thanks for your videos and helpful advice to all of us bmw owners! I have a 645Ci with no heating and having watched your videos I think everything is working but possibly the heater core is blocked hence I would like to flush it/reverse flush it. To access the two pipes going into the heater core would you advise removing internal trim parts and accessing via the footwell or accessing in some way in the engine bay? Many thanks in advance for any advice

Hello Richard, no need to get in the cabin, best not to fiddle with the watery-bits in there! I very much doubt that the heater core is blocked, more likely to be a failed heater-control valve - here's a routine on the E31, similar on the E63/64: www.meeknet.co.uk/e31/E31_Heater_Valves_Replacement.htm You can flush from the auxiliary water-pump which is seen in this routine: www.meeknet.co.uk/E64/BMW_E63_E64_auxiliary_water_pump_replacement.htm if really needed

Timm's BMW Repairs and Information Hi Timm , further advice please! I have installed the new heater control valve with no change to the lack of any heat inside the car. I have driven it for a week no change, bled the system several times without issue and engine temperature is normal all week. I have today removed the heater control valve and put a hose pipe into both/either of the two heater pipes that run into the inside of the car holding it tight with my hand. No water runs out of either pipe, the water builds up a pressure and when I release my hand grip the water just runs back out of the same pipe. Help!! 😅

  • @richardcarter3246

    @richardcarter3246

    3 жыл бұрын

Hi Timm, Further to my last message and in order to assist anyone else with similar heating issues the updated situation is; I ran the hose pipe into the heater pump and this somehow got water coming out of one of the pipes running into the cabin to the heater radiator. I refilled the system with coolant and bled it. This slightly improved the heating but over the course of a few days driving in a row there was further improvement and when the engine was revved to 5000 rpm during mildly spirited driving there was a noticeable improvement in heat within the car. It’s now approximately 60% of full heating temperature but better than nothing now that the ambient temperature outside has dropped.

Hi Timm, love your videos! Question: I just bought a 94 840 ci with all original exhaust, however the mufflers look really rough, although no holes or leaks that I know of (heat shields appear to be mostly rusted away). I found a used pair (black paint) that look much better than mine for around $400 for the pair. Would you suggest I get them, or take this opportunity to get new aftermarket stainless steel mufflers for around $700? Appreciate any guidance you can provide, thanks!

Your next plan is to remove a coil-over-plug as shown here: www.meeknet.co.uk/E32/Plugs/Index.htm Fit a spare plug to the coil, reconnect it to the loom and lay the plug on a metal part of the engine. Get someone to crank the car while you check for a spark. If you see no spark then the most likely cause is the CRANKshaft sensor. If you DO see a spark then most likely the fuel pump has failed - this is quite likely on a car that has sat for years
