How to Get from Heathrow Airport to Central London (Updated 2024)

Updated January 2024 - I'll walk you through how to find the Picadilly line, the Elizabeth Line, or the Heathrow Express. At the end of the video I also talk about how to decide which method of transportation is best for you.
For more info about public transportation, check out this video: • How to get around in L...

I always recommend looking up your route on CityMapper (my favorite) or Google Maps, on the day you arrive because traffic in London is constantly changing.

Citymapper (for Andriod): play.google.com/store/apps/de...

I’m planing to visit London and I stumbled across your videos. Thank you so much for those very informative videos it’s brilliant, you did us( travellers) a favour. Also your details is the first video that explains and shows what to expect. Traveling is exhausting and difficult to concentrate after you landed, this put everyone’s mind at ease. This is a much less expensive option than taxi's or car services. The first time we came we spent around 80 pounds for a car service! The next time we came we took the tube - and saved a lot of money! I think there are times when a car/taxi still might be good - like if you have small children or lots of luggage - but if you are able to take the tube I recommend it!

Another thing to point out is that the Heathrow Express isn't included in the daily price cap for oyster and contactless so if you're gonna be traveling around central London after getting there you'll be paying the £25 for the Heathrow Express plus up to the £8.50 daily cap for zones 1-2 whereas with the Piccadilly line and Elizabeth Line from the airport, you'll cap at £14.90 if you travel more

Hi Emily, You mention that the Heathrow Express costs about £25 and that the Elizabeth Line costs about £12.80, but I think people might also be interested to know that the Piccadilly Line costs only £5.60. And, by changing trains to the District Line at Earls Court, you can even get to Paddington (the destination that costs £25 by Heathrow Express) for that same £5.60! ...admittedly the journey takes about an hour! 🙂

I did this going back to the airport just so I can say I’ve done all 3. It’s very long and some of the trains don’t have AC. I don’t recommend it.

Very helpful! Might want to add two things (1) Heathrow Express has discounts for advance purchase and for two people who are traveling together (I paid £55 for two people, round trip), and (2) the Piccadilly trains, while the cheapest, are really old, don't have a lot of space for luggage, and don't have air conditioning (that is all supposed to change in 2025)..

May want to mention that in your video you start from Terminal 3. Terminals 2, 4 and 5 are completely separate and don't use the same concourse, but Terminal 2 does use the same foot tunnel but from the other side. Terminals 4 and 5 have their own train/underground stations which are one stop before/after 2/3. Nice video though.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I’m not very familiar with the London pass, but if you plan to do a lot of the attractions offered it might be a good deal.

@@labeles41 I am talking about the attraction pass you can buy in advance for 3 to 10 days. I believe it’s Go City. There are plenty of attractions attached to the pass. Just wondered if anyone has gone that route.

Are the trains at the airport open 24/7?? Will be arriving at 10:40 but will have to go through customs so I’m assuming we’ll be leaving the airport around 12-1am

What is the reason you have to tap your card before and after please

  • @emily_meadows

Because the price of the journey is based on the distance you travel, so when you tap in and out the TFL can tell how far you’ve gone.
