Piss and shit is kinda natural when massive trauma happens. Unless the patient is into humiliation, it kinda goes unsaid.

When they used the tourniquet they also put it ON the wound instead of actually ABOVE the wound where it should be.

@@davidstorrs The patient was part of a social media channel where two other guys put a microwave on the patient's head and then cased it with concrete. The patient then panicked when he found it was hard to breathe and then fell into the pool. Not long after that, our friendly (and potentially unemployed) station 118 were called and got the guy out of the pool and they needed to get the concrete off in order to ensure the patient would still be able to breathe. I may have seen this episode one too many times...

Yep. As a nurse and former EMT I’m floored at times at how the job is portrayed. Active shooter? Uh we’re staging here until the cops clear that, I’m not hostage negotiation and I am not running into that building. Field surgery? If it had the word SURGERY anywhere in it I’m leaving it or a surgeon because that’s what their job is. I am not driving spikes into a hemo/pneumothorax, doing a field cricothyrotomy, sticking tweezers or forceps into a gushing artery or intubating a conscious, breathing child. If these writers are part of the strike they can keep on striking.

He’s like the Angry Cops of paramedics and firefighters.

Jason I absolutely felt the same way when I saw this ridiculous stuff on 911. I am a retired critical care/ER nurse.. I even taught doctors towards the end of my career. I was curious about their medical consult for the show and wondered if he or she still had a license to practice medicine. I also stopped watching Gray's anatomy for the same reasons. The sad thing is people believe this s*** and actually think we all can do this stuff. Then they get feeling mad when they find out we can't.

I don't even have a medical training (unless a first aid class counts), but you really only need to see five minutes of that show to see that their got-to gimmick is: Find insane reasons for our actors to do crazy stuff like dropping down onto a mine field or lifting ten ton iron bars with an air bag or whatever. And yes, the people gullible enough to assume that tv-shows are realistic are the same who'll give you dirty looks when you question their tv-spawned expertise.

I mean of course every surgery resident loves to help do all our nursing duties, walking patients, starting IV’s and we of course never go into the supply closet because we never need supplies when we have patients coming in and sure have fun in the call room since our great surgery residents do all our work we won’t notice all the supply and call room hook ups. L&D nurse here and our residents do nothing except the triple board certified Doctor comes in and surgery residents take over our OB cases. Right, Never Ever have I seen that happen. I mean anesthesia might help you roll your patient back but that is about it. I mean we were a trauma center, high risk OB , level 4 NICU and if someone mentioned pregnant they would fly them to OB triage so fast your head would spin. Luckily they stabilize them first because while we are good neuro and spinal injuries aren’t our thing. Mama has to live for baby to live and at least be 24 weeks. Really Grey’s anatomy did Addison graduate medical school in her early teens because that is a lot of residency for a MFM and fetal surgeon, Neonatologist, genetics and fertility fellowships. I mean OB and MFM is 7 years fertility add another 3 years, genetics maybe 2-3 years, and the others at least another 12 or more years. That isn’t possible. Pick your poison Grey’s anatomy pick your speciality. ER that scene with the laboring patient that went intoH, DIC and died. Yeah seen it but OB main OR and ICU all involved. No one cares if we are full we will find room or make room. I always get asked where the Doctor is uh, sleeping and waiting for my call, by themself.

I’ve had one of the worst weeks of my life I’m part of a volunteer department and we just lost a very close firefighter on a neighboring department and the same night my girlfriend of two years left me this is the first time I’ve laughed since then and it feels amazing thanks dude ur a life saver

One of my fellow volleys was a lawyer as his regular job...he worked personal injury and med mal cases. Boy he had some insane "stupid EMS tricks" stories. Used them to train the rest of us in what not to do. Of course if you paid attention in school, you wouldn't need that lesson.

I watch this show (9-1-1) when I’m feeling low. It never ceases to crack me up. The first episode I watched I was like 🤔this is weird, must be the Halloween episode..... .... nope, every episode after it was the same😂.

This show reminds me of what happens when someone spends all of their time reading books without actually doing hands on stuff. I used to be a nuclear reactor operator and the only people who talk like this were the students/baby operators who didn't know anything about the job. They just new technical terms and definitions but didn't actually understand jack about what they were doing, because they've never done it before. I feel like hollywood is suffering from this. A lot of writers are demonstrating that they "know" a lot about something that they have never done themselves, and this show is the result.

I so totally agree! It makes me sick because the reality is these type of procedures are no where NEAR within the scope of First Responders. They are not taught these type of interventions because it is beyond their skill set, not safe in the field, and never performed outside a hospital. First Responders are AMAZING and I am in awe of them every single day. This type of show is an insult to the nth degree to what our first responders really do. @@LC128 Well, I do enjoy the odd american "super hero" show, it's kinda my guilty pleasure. Because if the americans know how to do anything, then it's drama. You just gotta remember that these shows portray real american paramedics about as accurate as James Bond portrays the real MI6... :D

QemeH you should sarcastic as I am I think our dramas are worse band form watching casualty and holby city claim to Fame. I have been the only real ambulance crew on the holby city set

@@LC128 Honestly, I had never heard of a TV program called _Holby City_ before, but reading the wiki entry it does not seem attractive to me. But we have unrealistic police/EMS/hospital/whatever shows here on german TV as well and they are just as dumb as those american shows. I wasn't bashing the shows - on the contrary the americans make them at least fun to watch, even if still highly unrealistic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates these so called medical shows hahaha

Yes, I've had to take a hiatus from most TV because of these ridiculous shows. I just scream at the TV and tell them what idiots they are and how they're doing everything wrong. TV is supposed to be relaxing, not stressful...

I took an EMR class back in high school and about 90 percent of students did better, in our mock disaster, than these guys did... I was in the 10 percent... BUT EVERYONE ELSE DID BETTER!

Going by the first scene you showed, I just assumed this was a comedy show like Reno 911. But apparently not... just wow.

My wife and I have been watching the two 9-1-1's and she laughs at me while we watch them. Don't get me wrong I still watch the whole episode everytime. Its probably similar to the military veterans watching war movies.

Same goes for lawyers and those courtroom shows where the lawyer solves the mystery. My mom’s law school teacher stood in front of the class and bluntly told them “I don’t care how many times it happens on Perry Mason. It will NOT happen in your trials.”.

I really like to look at ads that are around base because the civilians in charge of making them never know what they're doing, so they look incredibly unprofessional. Like seeing somebody try to pass off as a cop by dressing as a stripper cop

My dad was in the military for many years and I can confirm that he rightfully ripped a new one to the combat in literally every action movie ever since I can remember. Be it laughing how star wars troopers never use cover or landmines that go click before going off there's always something. FDC absolutely has the same kind of energy.

I mean it depends on where it is as sometimes well aimed direct pressure is better long term but sometimes a tourniquet can’t be avoided and for a femoral artery bleed as shown a tourniquet is the go to since you don’t have time/blood to waste trying something in the hopes it works you have to stop it and a tourniquet (or a few) will do that

This guy is so underrated 😂😂

These videos are great! I love 911, 911 Lone Star, and The Good Doctor, but I know they're just Hollywood shows and it's not the real deal. My brother was a volunteer firefighter in high school and now he's a police officer for about 10 years. I am proud of him. I work in the mental health field, mostly with children with autism for about 10 years as well and though The Good Doctor does a good job showing someone with autism, the medical stuff is a bit ~ify..... Anyways thanks for doing what you do!!

My favorite case of obvious out of scope action is in the FIRST episode of Chicago Fire when Dawson stops the ambulance mid transport to performs a pericardiocentesis on a child she thinks has cardiac tamponade when they were 5 minutes away from the hospital. The dr at the hospital even says she went too deep and punctured the heart! She claims it’s ok cause she learned how to do the procedure in pre med classes. First of all, I’m pretty sure you don’t learn that in pre med but in actual med school, and second that doesn’t mean it’s now in your paramedic scope of practice just cause you know it! And worse of all when she went under review she kept her license and DIDN’T GET FIRED!

Forget the horrible decisions made by any of them...but imagine the medic attempting to save your life looked and acted as clueless and unsure as that actress does? That dead inquisitive glare she has - she looks like she really showed up to harvest your soul. Gave me shivers.

I usually can't watch shows like this because I am always yelling, "Oh come on now! That's not how it works!" 😂

Administers IV Narcan, establishes IO, intubated patient, does a needle decompression, and gives buccal oral glucose. Later performs an emergency pericardiocentesis while a MEDEVAC Chinook is flying at over 180 mph. Somehow keeps his job

I have soooooo many questions... 1) IO if you already have IV? 2) Narcan on a shooting victim?!? 3) *Glucose* is the main priority here? And then he's giving it orally?!? 4) *OPEN FUCKING HEART SURGERY* by an EMT-B? In a Medivac? That is a Chinook? That can go 180 mph?!? Never mind if he keeps his job - what stuff do these writers smoke and where can I get it?

I know in the first episode of the lone star 911, the first responders decided to detain/arrest a racist woman for falsely calling 911 on a Hispanic neighbor. That’s very quickly a false imprisonment and a battery charge.

All I know is that from my training to get my EMT cert, even if you're in a firetruck, you are not allowed to detain or keep people against their will. It goes against patients rights. They could easily take us to court and win against us for false imprisonment and battery charges.

@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 Even if they did commit a crime, we still can't keep them in the truck unless they are a patient and they are not A&O x4. Fire and Emts do not enforce the law. If keep someone against their will, whether a patient or not, and they are A&O x4, it is false imprisonment. It is made clear and simple. for battery, you could easily charge me for battery just for touching you without your consent. It's battery if we try and treat someone without their consent or force them in our care without their consent, and it's false imprisonment if we try to literally keep someone in our ambulance or fire truck without their consent.

I heard it for the first time the other day, "If there is a Doctor aboard, please make yourself known to the cabin crew." I jumped into action, rushing foward and kneeling next to the patient. They were turning blue, trying in vain to draw breath, but I knew just what to do! Instructing the flight attendant to get hot water, towels, and a sharp knife, I performed an emergency tracheotomy. The patient died, but man, what a thrill. I'm even considering getting into medicine. :-P

The 3 dislikes on this video are the ones who lost their jobs by doing such things mentioned

LOVE THIS! My mom and sister were nurses. This is pretty much like watching TV growing up...except fire fighter/EMT version. Feels like home

I think the show that has the best representation of fire department personnel is rescue 911because it's a reenactment not something made up on the fly.

Jason thanks for these great and YES very true scenes of what we do in the Fire Service. From those soooo type A personalities to the B types who are laid back. My buddy and I performed a few “ shows” in front of our Truck Captain when arriving on the scene and he would ask us to get equipment off our rig. ( three stooges style). Then it was game face time. Keep up the great videos for us.
