It depends on the person and the time of drinking. I struggle with abstinence myself, it was no problem to have 0.5l of 40% alc. a day for a few years and quit overnight. Also big problem is relapse, most often when there is a "reason to drink". Like when you find out you're not actually gonna die. That your wife lied to you. That your child was kidnapped. Or when you find out your wife kidnapped baby and lied about it to you for several years. (wtf is with Dhar Mann???)

I'm honestly floored because every time I see a scene like that, I keep shouting at the other person "OBVIOUS HEART ATTACK. NEED EMS. DO SOMETHING!!!" The last video in the hospital isn’t too far off. I’m a nurse. We test for swallowing (bed side swallow eval) for every admission because people may aspirate. We also give potassium pills for electrolyte replacement. For cardiac patients we need to make sure their potassium isn’t too high or too low. And also if a patient is confused, sometimes it helps to mix meds with their food so they can take them.

Yeah but in Game of Thrones it made much more sense because not only were Baratheons famous for only having dark hair but also Lannisters on the other side for only having blonde hair. So given that there were already rumors about Geoffrey not being Roberts child and rumors that Cersei was having an affair with her brother, it was much more logical to think that Geoffrey was a Lannister child instead of him having a really rare recessive hair trait you know. But yeah it was also the medieval times where recessive traits wouldn't even have been a scientific thing yet, that came way later with Gregor Mendel.

3:45 recovering drug addict here: this is very true, you can't make someone change, they need to want it first - then of course you can help. It's also very easy to worsen the situation by being too directive or giving the wrong kind of advice. I'd advise people with loved ones having substance abuse issues to consult with professionals (medical, not gurus or some church) themselves in order to figure out how to behave in the most constructive way possible, as good intentions alone can easily backfire. The ending of that scene seems really unlikely to me. Not saying it couldn't work, but I think many people would just be furious and start drinking again.

I used to get these painful charley horses cramps in my calves. I never gave it much thought and just dealt with them as they happened. Then, I started having seizures and was in and out of the hospital. Every time my blood work would come back, they'd either hang a bag of potassium with my IV (one nurse called it a banana bag) or give me these gigantic potassium pills. Apparently, potassium is something that is just always low for me. It had nothing to do with the seizures, that was a different thing entirely. But during those exams, I mentioned the cramps and they said it's because my potassium is always low. Now, I take a potassium supplement once a day. No more cramps. And, the seizures got sorted, too, with Keppra.

What's really annoying at 3:38 is that they showed this guy deciding to immediately stop drinking large amounts of alcohol and how he had no problems with it. Quitting cold turkey like that can kill. Alcohol withdrawal can also cause increased heart rate, heart palpitations, anxiety, increased blood pressure, arrhythmias, amongst many other unpleasant symptoms, which would've worsened his heart condition if he had one, and worsened his prognosis if he'd actually had a heart attack.

My mother is prescribed a potassium pill, and she's been told to add SALT to everything. She gas a salt shaker near her all the time and literally shakes inyo ger hand and licks it clean. This started after her pituitary gland was strangled by a tumor in her brain. The pituitary gland is dead so she also takes levothyroxin.
