    dan walker You are welcome. I hope this trick works out for you. To test the map sensor you may try unplugging it and if the vehicle runs better with it unplugged replace it. If there is no change the map is probably fine. That may be something you can try. Or if you have a volt meter and vacuum pump you can test it. Here is a link for a great video on that subject. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGx5uMp_k5i_odo.html Also there are several videos you youtube for how to test an 02 sensor using propane torch and a volt meter. Or you can test both using a cheap scan tool that has live data. Although yours is a 95 year it probably does not have an obd2 connector to plug in a scan tool. But hopefully you will be able to pull some codes using the ignition key trick and hopefully that will point you in the right direction. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for the comment and have a good day.

    thanks...I pulled the key trick..I got 12,13,41 and the end 55...I put a volt meter on the middle wire of the map sensor with the key on, I got 5v from the main, and less than 1v from the mid....so it does look like I need to change it out...the codes didnt indicate an O2 issue...and I know the alternator belt was recently changed, so maybe they didnt tighten down the leads good enuf...I will look at this after the map change...thanks again... :)

    dan walker Yeah sounds like a bad sensor. However before you swap it out. In addition to checking the signal wire also check to make sure you have a good power feed and a good ground. If you dont have all of those the sensor will not work right. You said you got less than 1 v from the middle wire. (I just realized that not all middle wires are the signal wires, so check the color of the wire you back probed and I think the one you need is dk grn/red) There should be 3 wires going to the map sensor. Check to see what color wires you have. They should be the same as what I have listed. If I remember correctly. 1. 5v power supply-VIO/WHT 2. ground-BLK/LT BLU 3. signal-DK GRN/RED So to test the sensor leave the sensor plugged in. Turn on the key (no need to start) Hook one of your meter leads to ground battery terminal. back probe each wire (one at a time) and touch with the other meter lead. You want a separate voltage reading for each wire to ground. 1. power wire should be around 5v 2. ground wire should be 0-.200mili volts 3. signal should be around 5 v and go down if you apply a vacuum to the sensor. If you unplug the sensor to test for good power and good ground feeds, dont use a voltmeter use a test light. It sounds like a bad sensor but if for some reason you have a bad ground feed or bad power feed, swapping the sensor still will not fix it. Well I hope the extra info I gave you helps you out and makes sense. Well thanks for the comments and good luck on fixing your Dakota. Have a good day.

    my 1992 Dakota v8 cranks over but wont start.I did all the trouble shooting and found that everything works except the fuel injectors dont open what can be the problem.

  • @figibloom

    @figibloom

    For an injector to open it has to have a good power and a good ground going to it. On this system power is fed through the ASD relay, which feeds power to the ignition coil, and then on to the fuel injectors. The PCM module controls the ground to the injectors. So that is how the fuel injectors get a power and ground. You are most likely missing either power or ground, if the injectors do not turn on. So the first step is to figure out what side you are missing, because if you are missing B+ that points to a bad power feed, bad ASD relay, or bad fuse maybe. If you do have B+ at injectors, which you should with the ignition on. Then you have to figure out why you have no ground at the fuel injectors. Which could be a bad pcm module not sending a ground, bad wiring, perhaps bad crank or cam signals shutting the pcm down, or possibly another sensor sending an input to the PCM causing it not to send a ground signal. Also, the PCM also controls the ASD relay and the fuel pump relay by sending a ground to both relay coils. So this boils down to what are you missing from the injectors power or ground. Which will point you in different directions depending on what you are missing. I hope that makes sense. If I was working on your vehicle I would probably start by turning the ignition key on and then use a test light or volt meter hooked to a good battery ground/or good chassis ground and do a quick check to see if you have B+ at the fuel injectors (I believe the power feed is the DK GRN/ ORG wire) or maybe do a quick check on the ignition coil to check for power (might be easier to get to, and should be the same color wire for power feed as the injectors) That would be a good place to start I think, if you have no power there, then I would probably next go to the ASD relay and check both the control side and load side power and ground feeds next. Anyway, if you send me your email address I can send you a wiring diagram of how the system should work, and that might help make more sense to you, and I might be able to walk you through a few things to check. Well anyway I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

    On my 98 Dakota Sport I held the trip/odometer button while turning the key forward. It showed the word "chec" and went through some process across the LCD and then showed the odometer mileage. No codes came up so I guess that means it's clear. Have you heard of that process before?

  • @figibloom

    2cyclemix Sorry for the late response I did not notice your post until just now. Yes I have heard of the test you are describing, however I have never done one before (my truck is to old) If it is what I am thinking of, it is called an instrument cluster self diagnostic test. You do just like you said and after it says "chec" it runs through a series of self test on the instrument cluster checking out various things. So I am curious why did you try to do that test in the first place, did your instrument cluster panel just stop working. Well I did a quick google search and I found some more info here www.justanswer.com/car/1cgzg-dodge-dakota-instrument-cluster-stop-working-day.html you may want to check that out, it seemed to have much more info about that subject. Well I dont know if that will help you out or not, but maybe. Well anyway have a good day.

  • @figibloom

    +shokenryu Perhaps try cycling the key 5 times instead of 3. This trick may not work on a 2005 Dakota (i am not sure) Or perhaps try disconnecting the negative battery cable and leave off a few minutes and them hook in back up, and perhaps that might reset a few things. If it still does not work to pull codes, I would suggest you use an actual scan tool code reader to pull codes from your vehicle. Most auto part stores can hook up a code reader to your car for free and scan it for codes. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for the comment and have a good day.

  • @figibloom

    @figibloom

    +shokenryu Looking at your codes I am going to say that they are all related and dealing specifically with the heater circuit portion of the oxygen sensors and they are all 4 showing a low voltage signal. I could not find a 2005 dodge dakota wiring diagram but I found a 2005 durango wiring diagram and I believe they use a lot of the same parts so they may or may not be the same. Click on this link when3.top/wiring-diagrams-for-dodge-durango.html it should take you to a page and if you scroll down to the 2005 dodge durango o2 sensor wiring diagram you can kind of see what I am talking about. On this diagram fused common power goes to all 4 heating elements and then the ground side of each heating element goes to the pcm module and the pcm module monitors the voltage on that line and knows when a problem occurs. If you get a code for just one sensor then most likely just that one sensor is an open, but if it affects all 4 sensors it would be either a power problem from open fuse, open wire, or the worst kind of fault one heater sensor shorted out and is bringing the whole circuit down. I hope that makes sense. If I were you I would start with the simplest thing first and see if you have a bad fuse. I believe this fuse would be somewhere in the engine compartment fuse box. Let me know I might be able to walk you through fixing this.

    I replaced the egr valve. I went to a junkyard and I got a replacement for around 5-10 dollars. If you buy one from autozone.com (part number EGR362 I think) its like $70.00. They are pretty simple to change basically 2 bolts, small gasket, two wire electrical connector, and a vacuum hose. Should be like a 10-20 min job.
