    Fantastic advice. Even using mild shelving & comp, you can hear a difference. Would love a similar quick video for bass 😀

    For in the box guitars (Tonex, Helix Native & Neural DSP etc) I now have loaded a plugin called DI-fix from Plugin Boutique and also Waves new Magma BB Tubes plugin... so I can massage the signal going into the guitar sims. Helps a lot for some guitars and some profiles.

    I've also found adding the Supro Pre ahead of the amp with some light drive gives it more of a tube feel. Think Superbolt pedal as sort of an always on part of your sound.

    That is the reason why I dig modellers. Being able to get mix ready sounds. Taking the time ahead of recording will save tons in mixing. Don't forget, always, always, always catch the DI signal as well.

    I use several LA compressors in my chain, but I play clean with humbuckers in an es335 style guitar, which sounds horrible thru a line 6 Helix. I first have to peak-up different parts of the clean signal along with adding a tone pedal and also double amping in the Helix chainl and finally out into the power section of my AER 60. Although it still sounds sharp, the result is tons better just using one amp amp in the Helix chain along with conventional pedal drives. Except during the Leo Fender blackface days, amps have seldom been voiced for either hollow or semihollow PAF equipped guitars.

    The LA2A comp is at the end of all the Helix patches by Jason Sadites. He agrees its part of the mastering stage for post amp sweetening to give it that studio quality. This actual rack unit is used by actual producers in the studio.

    I can never seen to get a sound I like out of my monitors when using the helix, but if I play through the line 6 power cab it sound fine. My monitors are Yamaha hs7's. I even had kali lp6 and the same thing, didn't like it. Any tips on running through monitors vs power cab? Thanks

  • @joshuabenton3785

    @joshuabenton3785

    The monitors are way more honest than the power cab. Meaning they are producing a sound that is, more or less, what you made. Other things to consider: Where are your monitors placed? chest high? head height? where is the power cab? on the floor? That massively affects perceived frequencies as well. If the power cab is on the floor, its going to be adding worlds of bass into the heard frequencies as compared to monitors that are on a table. That alone could be it: you might be liking a beefier tone the power cab is creating. The monitors can make that same tone too, you just have to adjust your presets to get there. I trust my LP6 monitors for my Axe FX3 and love them a lot. The produce an almost identical tone to what I hear in my headphones (Sennheiser HD58X).

    I plug my Helix with an es335 style guitar into the power section of my AC 60, but I play clean. Either way, it sounds horrible. However, without doctoring up the signal with LA compressors and other aids, it sounds hideously worse. Most amps seem to like strats, teles, PRSs, and LPs, which I don't.

  • @ToneJunkieTV

    I also prefer the power cab. A lot of it is probably the speaker aimed directly at your ears. That your monitors away from you and if you like it more you just prefer a more amp I the soon tone where the speaker isn’t aimed at you.

    I got a Source Audio's Collider reverb/delay pedal in my stereo effects loop, were would I place it in my Helix/PodGo/native signal path? Tryed it in front of amp block and it's really noisy even with proper gain staging, I place it after a stereo dynamics block at end of my signal chain. Seems to work better, is it right? In a real amp head I'd put it in effect loop of amplifier, how would I do that in Helix/PodGo/Native?
