Alright, you got me. I've been jaded af in terms of trying to land my first dev job. I've been studying, building, networking for about two years now and I've not had good luck at all and I had given up honestly. I just didn't think it was for me and part of me still does in a way because I ultimately think I would do best as a project manager or dev advocate but I wanted to get dev experience so I can better understand that side of things. For whatever reason, I watched one of your videos the other day out of curiosity and moved on. But I got a surprise call from a recruiter and although it didn't go super well, the mix of watching your videos and actually getting some sign of life from my resume and portfolio online has inspired me to try this again. I don't know if I'll land something this time but at least I feel something other than being disenchanted by all of this and I actually want to build something again. So yeah, thanks for what you do!

Starting school in August and soaking in as much advice as I can in the meantime. Have watched so many videos and they are just "ok." I have watched just this one of yours so far but hit the sub button. Was shocked to see you don't have 100k+ subs because based on the quality, you should! Looking forward to watching more.

@@jamescross Absolutely! Doing an affordable bootcamp that lets me work on my own time during the week and then has in person, instructor lead class on Saturdays with students. Starting with a 4 week fundamentals course and then a close to 5ish month full stack course.

I fully agree that some projects in your portfolio even really simple is helpfull, but be honest, expectations for entry level in most cases out of reality. Kind of "A company looking for entry level programmer/engineer with 5 years of comercial expirience". I guess they just insane.

Front end + back end = full stack. Full stack is not entry level Also no one looks at portfolios anymore HR only looks at the resume so put all of your projects on your resume and put it under work experience. That was the only thing that got me more calls

It's not entry level if you almost need to be an expert to even start

It's definitely not flipping burgers.

The info you provide is gold. Very practical and "simple" steps one should take to ACTUALLY start a career in software engineering and be paid for it. With this advise, within a year I know I will be far ahead from where I am now. Thanks a lot.

for entry level, the things you said is too much. I know lots of well paid Sr. SDE can not do the things you mentioned.

depends on what types of jobs you want and how you define paid well.

Then the job should not be labeled as "entry level".
