How to get an Apartment in Berlin - Life in Germany

Комедия

Moving to Berlin and getting a flat is one of the hardest things to do in Germany, especially as a foreigner. See all the necessary steps you need to go through to get one. There really is not other way!
In the last 5 years, rents in Berlin have skyrocketed, increasing more than 100% in such a short period of time. The government has been trying to move against this development with very little success. Not enough new apartments are being build and the market is getting overheated by an increasing number of citizen and foreign speculators.

I got my room inside the freaking sbahn circle after 1,5 months of living by a friend in their washing machine room on a mattress, I got an email by automatic filter in wg-gesucht at 23:00, no picture of room, no concrete address, but a phone number (jackpot!). Called immediately. My future roommate was almost asleep and said she posted that just 15 mins ago. I should come tomorrow morning or three days later. (Yeah sure) So, even though I had exam week and slept over in university, (we have a dirty couch) and next day was also the first day at my new job, I squeezed my exhausted self at 9 am through the door of my future 12 qm room. There is a shortcut! (Speaking from experience) You can repeat step 6 and 13. After doing so for few months, move to Brandenburg and tell all your friends you live on the outskirts but it's fine cause you have quick connection to the center by S2. Losing a will to live will happen gradually but at least you don't have to live on the streets. Still not recommend this way though 😂

So true. Affordable and available housing has become a global problem in most big cities. In Sydney a lot of people are moving rural or far away from their home in order to afford a decent place to live. And that's really challenging if you grew up in the 80s-90s and got used to having a backyard, space and a dog. Then you have to fight just to get a shoebox, let alone a house.

Open bribery does not work afaik and such an attempt will more likely reflect negatively on you. What works is step 1, knowing someone who knows someone who moves out, and there it may help when you have the paperwork ready and are willing to pay for taking over the furniture, so that the old tenant is happy and the landlord doesn't need to bother with public sightings.

@Preeti Karmakar You can write an introduction about yourself. Name, age, what you studied, what you do for work/which work you are looking for, ask for more information about the apartment. Just be honest but show that you put in the effort. You can then effortlessly copy and paste the same message to apply for any place. Start with a formal greeting and the advertiser's name. Close with a formal greeting and your name. When are you coming to Germany? Send me a DM on Instagram @arilinde.sapkota if you are interested in a cheap room in a big+furnished apartment with me.

Random Rant by a person from Marzahn Honest talk here, might destroy the funny mood and seem inappropriate but I am so fricking annoyed by all those people moving to Berlin and saying you have to live inside the S Bahn circle because otherwise "you're not a Berliner". Who are you strangers to tell me if I am a Berliner or not when I lived here since the day I was born?! As you can see clearly in this video not everyone can live inside there, there aren't too many flats left. Also Berlin is much more than just the main center. Sorry, not really related to the video. Your videos are really cool ^^

Especially you are often not even faster if you live in it. I once was on vacation near are Regional Train station where the train went to Berlin every 30 Minutes and without a stop and 160 KMH . It was very fast and more comfortable than Bvg und S-Bahn

All what he showed is actually real. I moved to Berlin in September 2018. First year I lived a little bit outside the ring on Alfred Jung strasse 16. It's student apartment building, which offer apartment for non students for higher price. So I paid for serviced and furnished 23 sqm apartment 899 . My first payment was 2772 € ( 3×899+75 cleaning fee). Because I got with one year of working some schufa score and experience of rent in Germany and average Berlin salary I could get another furnished apartment via wunderflats . I do strongly recommend to look for "Wohnung auf Zeit " , solong you don't have payment history and "Unbefriesteter Arbeitsvertrag ".
