How to get an Apartment in Berlin - Life in Germany
Комедия
Moving to Berlin and getting a flat is one of the hardest things to do in Germany, especially as a foreigner. See all the necessary steps you need to go through to get one. There really is not other way!
In the last 5 years, rents in Berlin have skyrocketed, increasing more than 100% in such a short period of time. The government has been trying to move against this development with very little success. Not enough new apartments are being build and the market is getting overheated by an increasing number of citizen and foreign speculators.

I got my room inside the freaking sbahn circle after 1,5 months of living by a friend in their washing machine room on a mattress, I got an email by automatic filter in wg-gesucht at 23:00, no picture of room, no concrete address, but a phone number (jackpot!). Called immediately. My future roommate was almost asleep and said she posted that just 15 mins ago. I should come tomorrow morning or three days later. There is a shortcut! (Speaking from experience) You can repeat step 6 and 13. After doing so for few months, move to Brandenburg and tell all your friends you live on the outskirts but it's fine cause you have quick connection to the center by S2. Losing a will to live will happen gradually but at least you don't have to live on the streets. Still not recommend this way though 😂

So true. Affordable and available housing has become a global problem in most big cities. In Sydney a lot of people are moving rural or far away from their home in order to afford a decent place to live. And that's really challenging if you grew up in the 80s-90s and got used to having a backyard, space and a dog. Then you have to fight just to get a shoebox, let alone a house.

Hahahaaa crazy video!!! Is it really possible to get a flat with bribing, since I come from a country where that "culture" is widely spread, it wouldn't be too strange for me, if imy honest :D And does the Airbnb thing really work?
@eljanrimsa5843
11 ай бұрын
Open bribery does not work afaik and such an attempt will more likely reflect negatively on you. What works is step 1, knowing someone who knows someone who moves out, and there it may help when you have the paperwork ready and are willing to pay for taking over the furniture, so that the old tenant is happy and the landlord doesn't need to bother with public sightings.
Honest question? Does it really take 3 months to find an apartment there? Also, are all the bribing and negotiating necessary? When I rented the last apartment in my country, I just meet with the landlord and we agreed or not and that was it.
@michaelk5824

it takes three month or maybe longer or shorter. Porblem is: Berlin is very attractive and way more people want to move there then there are free places to live. I dont know what happens to the people who dont find something. It quite a struglle.

It took me two months in Cologne to find a room. I sent out around 100 requests to landlords, got approx. 10 invitations for an interview and had one yes. I had to take the shittiest and overpriced option with no furniture. And was communicating in German. With English chances are even lower. My friend could not begin his PhD studies in Heidelberg because he just could not find a place to live, he had to postpone for a semester

All what he showed is actually real. I moved to Berlin in September 2018. First year I lived a little bit outside the ring on Alfred Jung strasse 16. It's student apartment building, which offer apartment for non students for higher price. So I paid for serviced and furnished 23 sqm apartment 899 . My first payment was 2772 € ( 3×899+75 cleaning fee). Because I got with one year of working some schufa score and experience of rent in Germany and average Berlin salary I could get another furnished apartment via wunderflats . I do strongly recommend to look for "Wohnung auf Zeit " , solong you don't have payment history and "Unbefriesteter Arbeitsvertrag ".
Sounds easy.
