How to get a stubborn fountain pen nib working!

Here's a great way to get a stubborn cartridge based fountain pen to write! This is being done on my Pocket Six Pen with a Jowo #6 nib. Hope this trick helps!

The nib on my Pocket 6 came nicely tuned, flow is reliable, and always a pleasure to use. Changed my view on pocket pens. Keep up the good work. Thx.

I just reverse the cartridge and poke the tip of the nib into the opening so it sucks up some ink. Gently, of course…

I've never had a new fountain pen that refused to write; until tonight. It's a piston filler and I primed the feed; several times; and I was sure that I'd been sold a dud. In desperation, I turned to KZread and found this video. A few minutes after I tried your technique, my pen began writing. Can you explain the science behind your technique? How does this draw down the ink? Is it diffusion? Of the thicker ink to the less dense water? Sorry for all the questions but I'm fascinated with this.

I keep a small spray bottle with water in it and spritz my nibs over a paper towel or facial tissue to get them started or re-started. But I haven’t had any issues with your pens, Ian.

Just drag the tip on your tongue till it writes. It's been done for over 200 years.

I don’t understand the logic behind this method. It looks to me like treating a symptom and not the disease. The problem of the wide gap between the tines is still there. If the ink has dried up at a later stage, logically the symptomatic treatment will have to be repeated. Or am I missing something?

This is a general method for starting a stubborn nib. maybe the nib was oily or dirty? try this method before going to a nibsmith or sending a pen in for repair. This should not be something you do all the time, just getting a pen working for the first time or during inking especially with cartridge pens that are not dipped into ink like converter pens. hope that helps clarify!
