That means if I leave Thailand to visit my friends in Vietnam, my current visa that cost me 3000 USD to get becomes VOID if I leave. Hence the reentry permit which allows me to leave and come back in and still keep my 1 year visa. This is why the reentry permit exists, if you happen to be on a single entry visa that's long term.

Hey David does this only to apply to people who have stayed close to or over 30 days? I’d wanna go to Bali maybe 2-3 days days after landing in Thailand so when I come back to Thailand I’d have to get this permit even though I only spent maybe 2-3 days in Thailand

There is no 6 month visa. Your options are to do two tourist visas back to back. You'll have to leave after 3 months to a neighboring country and apply for a second tourist visa.

Hello David! If I have a single entry visa and I’m going 1 week to Bali and then return to Bangkok to take my flight back home, should I get a re-entry visa, or should I apply for a on arrival visa as I’m only staying for 1 more day in Thailand

No get a re-entry when you're at the airport leaving Thailand. It's a quick and easy process. Just make sure to give yourself enough time.

The permit is in your passport, so when you leave Thailand for a few days and come back in, your visa is still active. I do this for my Muay Thai visa.

Did you do it after you arrive in Thailand or when you will depart?

Depart. It's only if you're on a single entry visa and need to leave for some reason. Like my Muay Thai visa, it's single entry so when I want to leave and come back in on the same visa I need to get a re-entry permit.

I was on an edu visa previously. Flew out twice. The first time I was pulled aside and question. They then they let me in. Second time I was let in with no issue. It's really up to the immigration office. They are now HIGHLY skeptical of anyone on an edu visa as most abuse that visa type. Money, your passport, passport photo. If you don't have a photo they will charge you 200 baht last time I was there for a pic. Yes located in front of immigration. Process takes 20-30 minutes so give yourself time.

Hi David. I understand that I can enter Thailand on a tourist visa 6 times. Would these entries in total, with or without extensions, be limited to the 182 day rule?

I've never heard of this 182 day rule. Thailand is much more strict compared to when I first visited in 2011. I would say you can do two, back to back tourist visas without issue. You're pushing it if you do a 3rd, and very unlikely to get a 4th. Again, just anecdotal from what I've seen.

Hey David. I do have a question. When I‘m on a single visa in thailand getting a re entry does nothing more than letting me be able to come back in time right? But is this even worth it? Because the cost is the same as applying for a new visa right? And what happens for example when i extended visa once. And im on 178day for example. A re entry would be useless right because i would have had to apply for a new visa anyways, right?

A re-entry is useful if say if you're on a 1 year edu visa which is single entry. If you leave, that 1 year edu visa is null and void which is why the whole re-entry process exists. To allow you to keep your current visa but still leave Thailand without having to get a new visa.

Whatever type of Single Entry Visa you hold if you leave without first obtaining a reentry permit without exception you have to get a new Visa when returning. Should note for retirement folks holding an O or OA 1 Year multi entry it is vital to get a reentry permit after the Visa has expires. For example I had an OA multi-entry Visa valid until 16/11/22. I left to visit Sri Lanka on 20/10 and came back on 10/11 BKK immigration stamped me in until 9th Nov 2023, but the original Visa has now expired. Therefore I must obtain a re-entry Permit to allow me to use the now single entry Visa stamp in my Passport to use rest of my permitted stay (until 9/11/23). If I didn't get one I would need to obtain a Tourist Visa on arrival (currently 45 days for many countries citizens entering until March 2023), then extend the Visa for a further 60 days at Immigration to alllow me to start my application for a 1 Year O Visa in Thailand, assuming I could show 800,000 Bhat in a Thai bank account. If you only have a short time left on your Tourist Visa it may not be worth the 1000 bhat Reentry Permit fee. For me it's definitely worth paying the Reentry Permit fee each time I leave Thailand to come back in until my current permitted stay runs out.

So if I fly to Bangkok, go to laos, Vietnam Cambodia, can I then just go to the border or immigration in Cambodia to get a re entry into Thailand? Or would I need the multiple entry visa?

No re-entry is done in Thailand. It's only needed if you have a single entry visa you don't want to expire when you leave Thailand. What visa will you be getting for Thailand?

Unfortunetly you can't extend the 30 day visa on arrival. You'll have to leave and apply for a 90 day tourist visa at an embassy. Bring pictures, money and set aside a few days.

If you return before your tourist visa expires then you can get a reentry permit. If you return to Thailand after your visa expires, then you need a new Thai visa

Hello there! Im an Indian and I want to travel to Cambodia and Vietnam from Thailand. My tourist visa has 15 days validity so these 3 country trips will be completed within 10 days. Do I need a re entry visa since my flight back home will be from Bangkok only. Please help.

It's a desk in front of the immigration checkout line. Give yourself enough time so you're not rushed.

Hello David, I was wondering if you could help me? I'm trying to get a visa for my Dad. He used to get a multiple entry O visa but we aren't sure if he can still do that. He is going to Thailand for just under 60 days then flying back to Britain for a week and then going back to Thailand for 90 days hopefully. What would you recommend we do? Many thanks x

If the O visa is expired a tourist visa is fine for this length of stay. Apply online for a 3 month tourist visa. Once you leave Thailand again you’ll have to apply for another tourist visa. Note that immigration is fine with 2 back to back tourist visas from my experience but beyond that they may not like.

Assuming he is over 50 and meets the criteria for entry (good mental health, no criminal record, return ticket, health insurance for duration of stay) and can show he has equivalent of 800,000 bhat in a bank account he should apply for an OA-1 year multi entry Visa from the Thai Embassy in London. This is what did, effectivley I came to Thailand on 30/11/21 and have left and reentered Thailand multiple times during the 1-year of validity. I timed my last trip to Sri Lanka so I returned just before my OA Visa expired. Immigration then stamped me in for a year until 09/11/23 but I need to now get reentry permits every time I leave and return because my the original Visa has expired.

David I am so confused by this re-entry thing. I'm a British citizen so before I leave to Vietnam to do my visa run. I can buy a multiple entry visa for 3800 bhat and come back in a few days ?

If your visa is a single entry visa, you can pay for a re-entry and keep the same visa so you can leave thailand for a few days and come back in. If you leave Thailand on a single entry visa and don't get a re-entry, that visa becomes null and void and you'll have to apply for a new Thai visa (or get a visa on arrival).
