    Hello, I was actually really lucky transferring to the yacht industry.. I had experience as an officer on merchant navy and I got a cousin who knew a captain of my current yacht. He was looking for a deckhand so after an interview I got the job... One month before the season my captain contacted the chief officer that he expected to come for sure, for my luck he wasn't able to join the yacht so I got that position instead... That was pure luck...as many say expect the unexpected..

    Anyone with an unlimited CoC would also have to be mindful of revalidation requirements if they opted to "start at the bottom" on super yachts. Nothing against this in principle as its a good idea to have a sound knowledge of the extra duties involved. I can say from personal experience that e.g. cleaning teak decks is not a job I have ever had or heard of friends having on cargo ships :). Thanks for the previous video on that subject, very helpful.

  • @WorkonaSuperyacht

    @WorkonaSuperyacht

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for pointing this out, woolyimage. I've just double-checked the revalidation requirements for COCs issued by the MCA, which requires 12 months' seagoing service in the last 5 years OR 3 months' seagoing service in the last 6 months. This shouldn't present any issues, but crew must certainly be mindful of getting the timing right.

    since a certain time that I watch these videos, I remark several things, the motivation that surrounds many things (administrative, study, knowledge of the industry) is very important, unfortunately, one thing is without doubt painful, the physique ( health), which is not something controllable. What do these yachting men become when they are affected by the disease. As usual :) thanks for this great video. i like learn 👍👍👍

    Hello Rudi. It's true that working on a superyacht requires you to be fit and healthy. Accordingly, crew members must pass a seafarer's medical every two years. Unfortunately, if you lose your health this career may no longer be an option, which is why it's important to make the most of the opportunity while you can. If you gain qualifications and work your way up the ranks, you may at least have opportunities ashore within the maritime industry, even if you aren't able to work on board a ship.

    Hi Matthew, I'm an Italian 3rd Officer with 3 years experience on ferry passenger ships and I am really looking forward to work on MYs. I'm tired of all those documents that you've to fullfill on board of big ships, and that sector, in the past years became very stressfull. I'm worried about the requirements imposed by the recruitment agencies regarding ''yacht experience''. Do you really think that the best way to start is to have a step back and start from a deckhand position? Thank you for all your advices and have a good day!

  • @WorkonaSuperyacht

    @WorkonaSuperyacht

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello Alfonso. Your experience on passenger ships may mean that it's possible to move straight into a deck officer role on board a superyacht; however, you should prepare for the fact that you might need to spend a year or two as a deckhand before getting the chance to step up. I'd recommend that you start by contacting a few crew agencies to see what they have available for someone with your level of experience.

    Hello Prankandfail, and thank you for your feedback on the channel. I haven't worked with anyone who had previously served in the military, but there certainly are some yacht crew with military backgrounds. I wish you all the best with your courses and subsequent job search!

    Hello Navigator. I once worked on a yacht that was nearly 4000GT in volume. The second officer had done his cadetship on cruise ships, spent a further 2 years with the company as a junior officer, and then moved straight into the role. That was 7 years ago. There are no guarantees, but it could still happen today.

About me I am 3rd officer with Indian COC in a container ship, looking to switch to cruise. 1- salary 2- contract duration and type, weather it's on roll or on contract basis. 3- is insurance being provided 4- internet on board 5- other than navigation and Lsa/Ffa maintenance, any other duties are included in 3rd officers profile. I have also heard that cruise lines look for white people to hire, is it true. Thank you for reading this, if time permits do reply. Bon voyage 👍

    That's correct. This is why I suggest looking at vessels over 3000GT when trying to move straight into an officer position on board a yacht. Your Unlimited qualification will be of most value here, and there is a large enough deck team that you won't really need to be driving tenders or helping out with maintenance on deck.
