You are welcome Cruise ships hire year round but it’s a process to get on board which can take from 1-3 months, 6 months or even a year or more, it depends on individual circumstances as well as company needs based on rotation scheduling

@@Sihlegama300Hi Sihle. It is a good thing to consider cruise ships whether you want to take a break or pursue it as a full time career. Having Experience is good and will help out as it’s really important. If you follow the steps I share in the order it will be very helpful. You can start applying and at the moment don’t worry about any trainings and things like Visa etc as these can be done at a later stage. Costs will depend on which company gets you hired but in most cases id say R20k can get you started.

I have no experience in working 😔 on a cruiseship. I have a BA and Masters degree and a good resume. I live in NY and I apply but the titles of the jobs seem very complex and specific and i never hear a word back whatsoever. And no i dont have any bad ba kgrkubd stuff .How do I break that cycle of never hearing back? Also do they care if you have any outstanding tickets or parking tickets as a requirement? Do they care if you have one tiny visable tattoo? What state or states do you need to be living in to get hired? Im in NY. Im totaly clueless of how to get started and I just see alll these videos from people who have youtube channels that work on cruiseships and i just wish i knew how they got started. Is it newrly impossible to get hired ont Caribbean or a bigger ship ? Any links ?

Police clearance takes way longer to acquire than passport. Maybe it should also be part of the first step.

hello, when i was in india i applied to us on f1 pilot training visa and refused and now after 3 years from dubai if i apply for cruise ship as housekeeping, do the us embassy know my previous history and refused me again as i applied both times on completely different purpose, amd also there are some fake crimes imposed on me in india which is baseless but im applying from dubai so do they verify in india or dubai? thank you

That will depend and costs will vary between which company hires you. Some require certain training and provide the rest on board, some you have to do most of them at home. Generally speaking I’d say 20k can get you started. Just make sure you don’t pay individuals

Fabulous… Honestly if I knew what I know now, I would have done Maritime studies instead of hospitality management simply because there are way better and more opportunities if you want to focus on cruise ships. There are many colleges and universities that offer maritime studies in South Africa, depending on where he is/wants to study, the list is endless on Google. He must just check the accreditation and take it from there

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. I would not say at your age it’s impossible though chances might be slimmer. Age does not really matter on cruise ships as long as you are medically fit to perform your duties. With your background and experience id suggest that maybe you look into something like “Youth Staff” where you are involved in working with kids and in some positions they look at a teaching Degree. Go to www.allcruisejobs.com and you can see the positions, requirements and other jobs which can match with your experience, alternatively you can also have a look at www.castaway.com have a look at what they offer and maybe send them an email as well. I lnow friends who are teaching kids abroad in places like China maybe that could also fit well with your experience just not sure of the age limit there but it’s worth looking at as well. I am glad that you are looking foward to embark on this journey cos it’s never too late to travel and explore. I hope I could help in some way and I wish you all best of luck 🍀

General Rule which applies is that there should be no visible tattoos whilst wearing uniform, but most cruise lines these days are flexible as long as it’s not explicit Tattoos over the face or guns, knives etc. it is always advisable to check with your employer before joining and disclose any tattoos you have

There are shops on board which maybe with customer service skills it could help. My suggestion is to look at least the minimum requirements that they need which will indicate if you are a fit or not. You don’t need qualifications to work on board, Experience is more important. All the best

You will need things like Visas, STCW courses, medical certificates, seaman’s book, passport if you don’t have one to name a few. You will have to pay for these before you join and depending on the comps you work for, they will reimburse some or all of your costs once you on board. You have to pay for them and attend like 10 days for Basic STCW and it’s additional if you don’t have Crowd Management and Security awareness, also it’s an extra cost. Honestly No. the condition is you must be fit for duty, depending on your position on board The Medical Doctor will tell you if you are fit or not before you join. I know in some cases people who were unfit, the doctor gave them a couple months to loose weight before they could issue a Medical Certificate and be able to join At the end, it was possible
