Hi. I received a grade 9 in my recent literature mock and my teacher has always advised against having a paragraph dedicated to form/structure as it makes the examiner believe you are throwing it in there for the sake of it (e.g. the same way students always make irrelevant contextual references at the end of paragraphs because they know they must use context). Instead, it's more beneficial to use form and structure where it fits, e.g. to back up a point in your argument, this makes your response more professional and "conceptualized".

@@justsomeone5660 i think what they mean is try not to make your essay follow a super strict structure, so if you include context make sure that it flows nicely with the point you’re trying to make so that it doesn’t look like you’re just chucking it in there for higher marks.

While that is good to do. It would also mean you will now have to think of a whole new paragraph to do with the literary methods, rather before u can only focus on structure. A bit more effort and may seem tedious and repetitive in your work. I always have been taught to make a pg dedicated to structure but yeh. u do u bro.

These videos are saving my life at the minute 😅 I did my y10 mocks a week ago and watched most of your videos for each subject and they're sooooo helpful❤ and got a grade 8 in my literature :)
I have an English mock in like a week or so. So I think this will really help. I've seen many videos about 'how to get top marks in GCSE papers' but they're like 2 hours long. The fact that your videos are short makes it so much worthwhile. I'm crap at English and will probably get a grade 4 or 5 but I really hope that your channel will help me even if it is just a little boost

I have some tips if you dont mind me sharing: - dont skim over the text but make sure there's an active voice in your head. this makes you notice things like alliteration, sibalance and onomatopoeia more clearly - look for words such as "like" and "as". this normally indicates a similie - in poetry, pay attention to where punctuation is placed because this can indicate enjambents or caesuras - practice indepentdantly finding techniques whilst revising rather than relying on your teacher or study guides because this will build your skill in time for the exam hope this helps!

For structure techniques my teacher always says: imagine you have a camera on you and you're moving. Where do you zoom in? Zoom out? Etc. Talk about the change of focus throughout the text. Then you're going to need specific examples to quote. For that, just go on a hunt for dialogue, repetition, foreshadowing, flashback, one line paragraphs, short vs long sentences and underline it when you see it.

Hey! I did french last year (I was in yr 11 In 2021 and got an 8) and honestly I’d use something like quizlet for memorising the vocab and then write a recall/check list such as “house and home, weekend activities, future aspirations” etc depending on your spec topics. Then do active recall for all the verbs, adjectives and nouns for that topic in different tenses that you can remember (e.g to drink= boire, I drink= je bois, I drank= j’ai bu) looking back at the checklist you made so you don’t forget topics. Fill in gaps in your knowledge in a different colour to see what you struggle on (for example I struggled with the imperfect tense and past tense) you could make a summary sheet for a specific tense and review these before the test but ensure it’s condensed notes. repeat this active recall until you see an noticeable change in how much you can remember. As for listening/speaking I’d say peer revision and ask your teacher if they have any listening files or past papers for you to practice, if not I used to use the speak function on google translate for words I was unsure of and my school subscription to memorise. I hope this helps in some way :))
@natashachambers6197

For writing and speaking, make sure you know useful phrases that u can put everywhere (e.g. me apoya - he/she supports me, me hace reír - he/she makes me laugh etc. ) My teacher also gives us idioms which will impress the examiner and you can use for lots of topics like habra por los codos - which is a saying that means she talks a lot or somos uña y carne which is a saying that means we are very close. Things like this mean whatever the question, you can add advanced structures/ language. :)

I did GCSE art and triple science. One thing I learned was that you HAVE to be self sufficient in these subjects. I’m a decent student (averaging 7s) but I know many top students that got bad grades in Art because they just didn’t do enough work.
Does repeating sentences lose marks? With your example: "One way in which the author makes this extract memorable is through..." or "A further way the author makes this extract memorable is through..." You've repeated the same sentence.Will that lose marks?
@SarahChu

Nope! As long as you talk about different points e.g. "...through the description of the moon" and "...through the title and structure of the poem". That is merely sign-posting and actually helps the examiner quickly identify your arguments.

Hi I was wondering how many quotes you usually have for each point because my teacher strongly wants us to follow this specific layout: intro, 3 paragraphs ( 1 point and 1 evidence (quote) for each) and a conclusion. However I seem to be struggling to analyse a single quote for an entire paragraph. What do you think I should do?
@JosieBean.

When you analyse a quote you should see if the quote has language features such as similes, metaphors, hyperbole, rule of three, repetition, anaphora etc. Yo should read the paragraph and circle or underline the language features that you can see then put it into your writing. Hope this helps.
