I recommend laying down woven wire fence like carpet directly on the ground like carpet first. This will prevent groundhogs from building dens under your deck.

I have flipped over my ten-year-old pressure-treated boards and am starting again with the non stained side up and now need to know if I should put a 1/8 gap in between all the boards before I screw them down. I've heard that I should do that to allow for movement. The trouble is I don't want to put a space between because those gaps tend to fill up with all of the tree stuff that's surrounding the deck. Is it necessary to put the 1/8 Gap between the boards? Thank you so much for your advice.

Ledgers should be avoided on lower decks. They're really only good for eliminating posts on taller decks with visible/usable space underneath. Ledgers boards put all the weight on fastening hardware rather than a nice sturdy beam. Still would've needed the middle beam anyway with 2x8 joists.

@@THEpremieroutdoor With a cantilevered end you should always use joist hangers. they resist the up force of the cantilevered end and resist twisting of the joists. Ask me how I know...I am tearing an old deck down that was just end nailed and every joist is rotted at the end...plus it looks like you are only using maybe 3 to 3 1/2 inch nails. That means only 1 1/2 to 2" is in the joist. I thought Jersey was much stricter than that. End grain also has a tendency to split...

Treated wood is not such safe stuff.... depending on the chemicals they used.. 12 inches on center... how much more solid is it then 16 on center? its a deck not supporting a house ...

Yeah that's a great way to nail the frame if you have 30 people to lift it and put it in place against the house unfortunately I only have one helper shit buddy I can't even imagine trying to figure out how heavy that frame must have been I know how much a single 2x12x20 weighs 2 guys would bust their ass trying to carry one your way of framing a deck is very unrealistic and you must be getting a pretty good discount from Madison lumber I think you said their name at least 20 times

As long as the same tape does the same job who cares? I made some tool drawers recently. Some got measured with the tape, some with the framing square. Half had to be scrapped - too big for the case. Rookie mistake.

Why wouldn’t you just attach the ledger to the rim of the house and use joist hangers? No need to separate the variance in width or pick up and move the entire frame. If you were 10 feet up in the air, your video is pointless.
