How do you focus a distracted mind? Attention and focus come up a lot in the Kwik Brain community.

To go in-depth on this topic, I’m thrilled to have Dr. Adam Gazzaley, M.D., Ph.D. on our show today. Dr. Gazzaley is the David Dolby Distinguished Professor of Neurology, Physiology, and Psychiatry at UCSF. He’s the founder of Neuroscape, host of a national PBS show, and the co-author of The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-Tech World.
It’s impossible to put all of your focus everywhere at the same time. That’s simply not how the brain works. But being able to ignore certain stimuli isn’t a process that comes naturally.     i love Jim's voice and clear diction. English is my second language and I understand him 100%. I've started listening to the topic and got distracted thinking about my upcoming dental appt . i soon realized what i was doing and brought myself back to listening to the interview.

    A distracted mind can make it difficult to focus and accomplish tasks. Start by identifying the source of your distractions, whether it's technology or external factors. Practice mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing or meditation, to calm your mind and increase focus. Prioritize your tasks and break them down into smaller, manageable steps. Remember to take breaks and reward yourself for your progress. With practice and patience, you can train your mind to stay focused and achieve your goals.

    All this seems obvious but stated in scientific jargon. Saying that filtering out the irrelevant info is the key to focusing is in essence no different than the definition of focusing. Sleep is good for the brain to be able to focus...brilliant! Lol.
