How To Fly A CIRCUIT | Private Pilot License

In THIS VIDEO we look at how I fly a LH circuit at Fife Airport in Scotland.

Becoming a flight instructor is a big goal for me over the next 5 years or so HOWEVER at this moment in time I am NOT an instructor so please watch this video firstly for entertainment purposes. I do hope this video will help students out there learn what to expect during the circuits phase of the PPL course.
We depart runway 24 and climb upwind at 80 knots. As we make our first turn 'Crosswind' we push forward on the YOKE to level off at 1000ft AGL(Above Ground Level). I then reduce the throttle to 2200rpm once the Indicated Airspeed reaches around 90-95 knots.
We then turn 'Downwind' where we perform our downwind 'BUMPFFICHL' checks which are omitted from this video. I always check:
Brakes OFF
Undercarriage DOWN
Mixture RICH
Prop FIXED
Fuel Pump ON
Flaps AS REQUIRED
Instrument check (Ts & Ps, Suction, QFE set)
Carb Heat CYCLE
Hatches & Harness' SECURE
Landing Light ON
Once the runway threshold is at roughly my 8 o'clock i begin my setup for descent :
Carb Heat ON
Throttle 1600rpm
Maintain ALTITUDE until IAS = 70kts
Descend at 70 kts
Trim
Based on my judgement on how high we are I may take final flap slightly before turning 'Final' to help us descend. This is a judgement you will become excellent at making with practice.
For landing tips check out my video on HOW TO LAND AN AIRPLANE
Thanks for watching!

Hi Stuart! Small correction - whether or not you use flaps does actually depend on weather sometimes. Hot temperatures/low pressure/weak headwind all decrease lift and so you might need to use flaps for takeoff in those conditions.

I'm just a student at Tayside Fife myself at the moment, so by no means an expert, but that's what I got told by the instructors. Big fan of the channel btw, I always look out for your vids as they're really helpful! :)

Nice video! Takes me back a few months to my circuit training! I passed my skills test 2 weeks ago (for which a couple of your videos among many other people's actually helped with) so I'm preparing for the inevitable questions - particularly from my kids - "why are you doing that? What does that mean?" I'm also contemplating perhaps getting an FI rating at some point - you're a natural.

Hi Stuart, love your flying video's for 3 reasons; a) I am learning to get my PPL, with 13 lessons in and just got onto circuits. b) I am learning at Glasgow airport and sometimes Cumbernauld so nice to hear a familiar accent. c) I too love editing, for each video I create on my YT, I try to get more and more slick ! I will be doing my second circuit lesson on Saturday, I find that I am not thinking fast enough and not knowing when to do what, I look over the book and notes, but still get flustered. Any tips from you would be great in general. P.S. This is my channel, which I hope to move into flying once I get there ! kzread.info/dron/NDYsTCUo6KQ3RU4QLs4OqA.html
