    For everyone who's using this guide but not succeeding to see the wifi: you're probably having an 8285 microcontroller instead the 8266. Find a different bin-file and you can flash with different software. You'll probably need version 2.0+. Next to that, great guide Csongor, I like the way you go through the steps. Although it's not bad to insert an annotation on steps that are wrong (as explained further in the video). Thanks! :)

    I will try to help if you get stuck. I don't think this is easy, and it is difficult to find problems on our own. Forums sometimes help, but it is frustrating if it does not work. I also give up rather easy, so I guess I am lucky so far.

    I wouldn't say I'm a new user and using ESPEasy is just, easy (if it works). But if it doesn't work, it's going to get annoying. I've tried another FTDI board, which seems to work. But, both ftdi boards are from the same batch, loopback test works on both, voltage seems OK. So I thought it could be current, and hooked up an external 3.3V source, GND's connected) but nothing worked. So I'm clueless why one will and the other won't work. It's hard to live with that thought, but I'll just shove it off on the fact that I have no scope and the voltage could've dropped (because it would draw too much current). I've ordered 3 off those USB-UART modules of chip-fans (they're really dirt cheap!)

    Hmm, I see. So yet again, I might be very happy as I did not face the same issues... yet... But I agree, if you face issues it is frustrating. Actually, I am planning on doing an "ESPEasy troubleshooting" video.

  • @xFuaZe

    @xFuaZe

    Hmm, well it does work with the other FTDI board, so basically you could say it's a faulty FTDI board or hardware problem/inconsistency. I'm not sure if a troubleshooting video is very usefull, if there is something wrong I usually check the github for people with the same problems, or check tutorials and see how others do it, or try to ask on forums/youtube etc. A good tutorial should be clear and focus on whatever could go wong, instead of trying to fix problems afterwards with another video, I think ;)

    Couldn't get my Sonoff to do anything after re-flashing and re-booting multiple times even though it went thru the boot process just like it showed in the video. Changing the power supply and swapping the tx/rx wires didn't help either. Finally after searching I found a different version of this software here github.com/letscontrolit/ESPEasy/releases/tag/v2.0.0-dev13 and extracted the zip file and it was super easy to install the firmware in the file. Once extracted click the "FlashESP8266.exe" file and pick the bin file from the drop down menu. I did have to use the "ESP_Easy_v2.0.0-dev13_normal_ESP8285_1024.bin" file not the 8266 file. After that I got the WIFI "ESP_" something (forgot what it was) works great now. Thanks for the video.

    Kedves Csongor! Először is gratulálni szeretnék a minőségi tutoriálhoz és megköszönni hogy összeraktad! Nemhogy itthon de még külföldi videók közt sem találni ilyet! Érdeklődnék, hogy hoztál-e már össze Raspberry + Homebridge + Sonoff hármast? Esetleg egy ilyen tutoriált nincs kedved készíteni? Nekem már fut a Raspoberry-n a Homebridge, de nem tudom milyen firmware-t kellene használnom, amihez homebridge plugin is van. Ez az ESP Easy elég sokoldalúnak tűnik, de nem tudom melyik homebridge pluginnel használható, ha használható. Köszönöm!

    I had the same issue people are having, where no wifi is coming up. However, everything worked out perfectly with the new 2.0.0-dev13 release with the 8285 edition. It has a better flash program, which allows you to pick the bin you want to use. The new firmware uses a wifi password. It is "configesp". My Windows 10 PC would not take me directly to the page, using Chrome, so I followed the directions and went to 192.168.4.1 and that was it. All good. Instructions: www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/index.php/ESPEasy Download: github.com/letscontrolit/ESPEasy/releases/tag/v2.0.0-dev13 I then used the Fing app to find the IP address for the Sonoff.

    Thanks. Nothing special. I have a 6 year old Panasonic HDC-SD600 FullHD camcorder. I do all the recording with that. I try doing this at daytime with some lights (desk lamp, ceiling lights) on to get the best quality video possible. I use a simple cheap tripod right next to the table, camera is looking down, I sit behind the tripod. My camcorder does not have a mic input (unfortunately), so I am using the built in mic. Up until about 1 month ago I was using CamStudio for the screen capture which works OK, but not great. Now I have an AverMedia Live Gamer Portable which does capture via the HDMI port of my laptop. It works like a charm, easy to use and does not eat up the resources of the laptop. No lag, no dropped audio. I use the laptop built in mic to record the audio. It is quite sub-grade to the camcorder mic. I do all the editing in Cyberlink PowerDirector. It does not have a lot of fancy features, but it gets the job done (and I still only using a few of it). I add 8dB volume boost and 5% noise reduction to the laptop audio which brings it up to (sort of) similar quality and volume as the camera audio. So that is pretty much it. So far I have not make a big investment for my KZread video production, but I am not making loads of money either. I am hoping the content is going to make visitors come back to me.

    Great video, told me what I wanted to see, but I've got to say... I think its entirely unnecessary to soldier those pins on the board. You can just as well use male/female jumper wires instead of the female/female. I simply insert the male pins into the board's pin holes then use a little bit of tape to pull the pins gently and hold them in place to make sure they have a good connection. The flash only takes a few seconds, and once you're done, you'll probably never need to flash it again. Soldiering just seems like an over kill for this use case.

    This came up multiple times, I am always giving the same advice, but nobody comes back to me which has worked: so I recommend using the mains power to power it, some USBs do not put enough power, make sure your laptop/tablet/phone is searching on 2.4Ghz wifi (normally is should, but there is a 5Ghz wifi band as well). Obvious, but the button is not pressed when you power it on (not jammed in the case when re-assembled).

    Szia megint! Lenne egy kérdésem. Sikeresen rátöltöttem az ESP easy fw-t ket sonoff egységre. Mindkettőnél úgy jártam, hogy felcsatlakoztam a a saját ESP_0 wifi-jére és elkezdtem configolni. Az egyikkel addig is eljutottam, hogy saját wif hálózatomra bejelentkezett a sonoff. Mindkettőnél egyszer (váratlanul) csak elmúlt a wifi. Azóta halottnak néz ki a wifi-jük. Hiába flash-elem újra nem tudok lelket verni bele. Van esetleg ilyen irányú tapasztalatod, ötleted mit lehetne csinálni, hogy újra működjön a wifi vagy kuka a két modul? Nem nagyon találtam ilyen jellegű problémáról infót a weben. Valahol olvastam, hogy az USB tápja nem elég a jelfogó meghuzatásához, de nem gondolom, hogy attól tönkre kéne menjen a wifi. A probléma előállításakor csak USB-t használtam tápnak. ESP easy R120-at töltöttem de utána próbáltam R108-al de azzal sem ment. Minden infót ötletet előre is köszönök!

    Azt tudom hogy a ESP csak 2.4 GHz-es wifin mukodik. Ha a wifi csak 5 GHz-en sugároz akkor nem tud rá csatlakoztatni. Nekem még hasonló gondom nem volt, és én is csak a USBn keresztül szoktam táplálni programozás közben. Szerintem ez nem lehet gond. Hagyd az USB programozón, és Putty-val csaltakozz az ESP-re soros porton keresztül (baud=115200, 8 bit, no parity). Ott lehet hogy lesznek olyan üzenetek amiből ki lehet találni mi lehet a baj. Az ESPnek nincs erős antennája, ahol a telefonnak már gyenge a jel ott az ESP már nem is nagyon tud csatlakozni. Hozd vissza a szobába hol a router is van. Esetleg kapcsold le a routert, es akkor a ESP_0 hálózat meg kell hogy újra jelenjen.

    ANYONE WHO GETS THE CONSTANT FLUSHING MESSAGE THEN FAILED TO OPEN BOOTLOADER- you can get this fault even when your tx and rx are connected correctly if your fdti cannot supply enough current to the sonoff! to overcome this you can connect a separate power source to the sonoff (MAKE SURE ITS EXACTLY 3.3V AND NO MORE AND NO LESS!!!) connect both the positive and negative to this source but link the ground from this source with the ground on the fdti unit, DO NOT LINK THE POSITIVES!, you connect the tc and rx as normal. doing this wil give the sonoff the power it needs and should stop the fault message you get and now flash correctly. the reason you need to link the ground wires is because the tx and rx will not work if there is no ground for them, they are both positive data lines. i hope this helps someone.

    tell me pliz how to connect Son of on this firmware to my network. I've been doing it all for a long time, I forgot. Right now I'm trying to reset the Sonoff RF device, but the access point ESP_Easy_0 does not appear in the phone. I tried searching for a point both when turning on the power, and when holding the reset button for 5 seconds (when it flashes red for the second time) and held it longer... There is no point for the life of me. Maybe some kind of tricky reset is planned there?

  • @csongorvarga

    @csongorvarga

    They shows the input voltage of the ESP that it receives from the 3.3V regulator. There regulators have some dropout, meaning that if the input voltage, (battery voltage in your case) is only a small amount above 3.3V (maybe 0.6V above 3.3V), it will not longer be able to provide 3.3V, it will start to drop. That you should be able to monitor with VCC. But the ESP is not able to operate on much less than 3.3V, so it will be a last minute warning . But will probably work.

    Hi Csongor maybe you can give me some hints for a specific Sonoff ESP problem I face right now. I have flashed several Sonoffs, following your video and then configured them, everything just fine and they are integrated in my Home Assistant. I started yesterday with one new Sonoff. I followed these steps: 1. Flashed it with ESP_Easy_v2.0.0-dev13_normal_ESP8266_1024.bin. 2. Connect 220V Input and start Sonoff. 3. I never see the LED flashing and I do not see WIFI ESP_0. I tried step 1 also with _test_ and _dev_ bin's and other sizes , no luck. What confused me is that it worked for 5 Sonoffs and now I have this issue. Any tip what I could do? Thank you in advance Peter

    I am waiting for a new Sonoff to arrive and also want to test the 2.0 version of ESP Easy. I was told that the newer Sonoff devices use ESP8265 (or something other than the ESP8266) which has a the memory built in, and it needs to be flashed with the DOUT option. But if you are not using the correct option, you may not even be able to flash the Sonoff. So there is a great deal of unknown mostly because I could not test it either.

    Sajnos nekem sosem volt hasonló problémám, de sokak mondták hogy bizonyos USB-TTL átalakítók nem adnak elég áramot és az ESP nem működik rendesen USBn keresztül. De előtte egy serial monitorra nézd meg mi jön vissza az ESPtől. Az ESP Easy firmware a soros (USB) porton keresztül küld szöveges üzeneteket 115200 baud sebességgel. Egy Putty vagy más programmal nézz rá hogy mit látsz. Utána kösd be a 220-ba és próbáld a saját tápjáról (akkor már számítógép ne legyen hozzá kötve). A telefon/laptop amivel keresed az AP-t 2.4 GHz-es Wifi-re legyen állítva, ne az 5 GHz-esre. Több sajnos nem jut eszembe.

  • @csongorvarga

    This firmware is designed to be used with a server that you create. You must have a server the Sonoff with ESP Easy can talk to. Using the ESP Easy firmware, Sonoff will not do anything on its own. You need your own server from which the Sonoff gets commands to turn on/off. Do not modify the firmware if you are not setting up your own home automation system.

    Yes, Home Assistant, OpenHAB, Domoticz, Node Red on raspberry pi3 is OK. I can't really tell which one is best. I used OpenHAB in the past, it was easy to set up to control devices, not so much to build logic. This is why I am using Node Red. I heard great things about Home Assistant too, and there is a large community behind it. So that is probably a good way to start.

  • @csongorvarga

    @csongorvarga

    6 жыл бұрын

    Few things: status LED, by default ESP Easy does not know which hardware it is running on, and which PIN the status LED is connected to. So unless you complete the configuration, it will be off. Many people had similar issues like you as ESP/Sonoff cannot run properly on the power provided by the serial adapter. So unplug it and power it from the mains power. It should work even without any visual feedback from the status LED. The serial terminal will provide you with status messages to see what is going on, but it cannot be configured over the terminal. You need the SSID to appear. Also note that ESP only works in the 2.4Ghz Wifi band in case your phone/tablet/laptop is switched to 5Ghz only (if it is possible at all).

    Is there any way to control one of these Sonoff wifi switches without doing hardware hacking like this? I just want to be able to control a relay/switch with code from a Raspberry Pi using Python. Is there any way to do that? I don't care if I have to go through a cloud service, although I would prefer not to have to do that. Let's start from the beginning: is the driver installed correctly? Does it appear under unknown devices or under Ports? If the prior, right click and in the properties update the driver (Driver tab). Let Windows find the driver automatically. It usually works. If everything is OK, it should appear under Ports in the device manager with the assigned COM port shown.

  • @csongorvarga

    I got similar comments from a few other users as well, but we never gotten to the bottom of the issue. Did you try connecting to the ESP via the serial port with Putty? Are you getting any meaningful messages? I heard that the ESP might not perform properly if the USB converter cannot supply enough power. So remove the programmer and try powering up the ESP via the main as normal. The LED will definitely not blink in the beginning. ESP Easy does not know which device it is running on hence it would not know which pin the LED connected to. You need to set it up later. So the LED will not give and indication in the beginning at all.

    I assume your Sonoff is still running the original firmware. Connect it to the mains and press the button. If you hear the relay clicking the Sonoff works (there is no issue with the button itself). In this case the programmer is not working. Have you tried swapping around the RX, TX cables? The only other thing I can think of is for some reason the USB-Serial programmer cannot deliver enough power to the Sonoff. I never had this issue, but some people mentioned it in the comments in the past.

    Very good and simple video. I successfully flash my Sonoff, but how I'll turn it on or off and does anyone know after this flash how I connect my Sonoff with Aleax Echo?

    This firmware is that you can control Sonoff from other software like Domonitz, OpenHAB and other automation products. I believe the original Sonoff firmware has integration with Amazon Echo. If that is all you needed, why did you flash the firmware?

    It was not working with ECHO DOT (Alexa) thats why I update it. Do you have any video which show how to configure Alexa with Sonoff by using ESP Easy.

    Doesn't work, no wifi after flash, sonoff changed something, you have to use arduino IDE but guides out there are very vague.

    Tobby Putra You don't. You install it on a device such as a pc or raspberry pi. You specify the ip, username and password during setup.

    Tobby Putra I dont know any MQTT servers for android. All the ones I find are MQTT clients. So I am not sure if it is possible to do with android.

    It didnt work it flashed right but it didnt appear any wifi ESP_0 or whatever. So i tried some stuf out and i was able to make it work but i had to did it using the arduino ide software if you were not able to make it work you should try iti found the solution in a video with this title "Sonoff Wifi FIX! No ESP_0 FIX!" from a youtuber called bart he dont explain it in the video in great detail but you just need to follow the links in the description btw i was not able to make it work with the latest version of the esp8266 library the 2.4.0 didnt work for me but the 2.3.0 did work, good luck.

    I know, it is a very small terminal connector. I usually tin the end of the multi core wire, so it goes in easier and does not split. If you are using double insulated cable, I only strip the outer insulation a bit, so the white plastic strain relief that you screw back on can hold down in the cable.

    I've bought literally hundreds of Esp12-e, -haven't gotten a bad one yet. I think perhaps you are using bad power supply. I use old HP laptop power supplies, and regulate to 3.3v using 78SR3.3. piwifio.com examples
