My man…. You’ve helped me. The freaking nasal clicks! I try to record my own audio for my short stories, and the nasal clicks are the bane of my existence! Thank you so much good sir

Those are the kind of educational videos that I love. Timeless, informing, educational and practical. Thank you!
Thanks plenty. I'm new to all of this and will be starting the audio for a book I assisted writing and pod casts / blogs. Very helpful.
Super interesting! I have never thought about spending more time preventing the clicks and less time editing them out.
Thank you! You have a beautiful voice and great tips to improve the voice. Keep up the excellent work!
I’ll add myself to the “Wait, I thought I was the only one with that infuriating nasal click!” club. The most frustrating part about it is that the de-clicker won’t remove it (technically it will but the setting is so aggressive that it destroys the rest of the audio). I’ll have to try the Ice Breaker Peppermint Cubes gum trick. Also, I’ll be practicing the “breathe through the ending of the phrase” in the booth today to see if it helps me. This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. Great stuff! I’ll be back to see what other secrets your videos reveal. 🍻

I always had my readers sip water after I guessed and discovered this remedy on myself 20 years ago. When you said secret weapon, the first thing I thought of was gum. I can't believe that was right! But I wouldn't have thought of that without you.
Don't drink milk tea (chai) before recording. That was my problem.
I have the nasal clicks too bro. I put on coats and hats and make myself sweat. Your secret weapon sounds easier. Can't wait to try it! Thanks

Lol. I waited until the end and turns out we have the same secret weapon! Love that gum! Spearmint tastes good too, but peppermint is the world breaker to end most mouth noise!

Awesome.
I've discovered this by accident being self conscious, I would brush my teeth immediately before streaming. Seems like essentially the same idea, but obviously you can't always have a toothbrush handy so this is a great tip! I also have a bit of a nasally voice which has sent me down a ton of rabbit holes...

Amen- you are correct, I have to pull my MKH416 back out of my mouth, it will catch everything, but I love my 416. And I will take your advice. I just got a UA Sphere, and I will try that microphone also, and I love your voice. I'm working on my Voiceover work and Audio books also.
Thank you for your video and tips ❤I checked that gum mentioned. It contains Xylitol which is a great anti-bacterial and anti-cavity sugar substitute. It is probably the reason why it helps. It is also super effective with mouth smell, as mostly the smell (if not from stomach issues) comes from mouth bacteria produced by carbohydrate food.
Thanks for the tips, there is no such gum in Poland as I know, I'll try with Wrigley's. ;) You started the movie by drinking coffee - my experience with coffee is that it dries out the entire mouth, the cheeks are less stretchy. Of course, with longer recordings coffee is useful because of the fatigue, but then I drink a lot of water, even more than during the recording session. For me it works well to eat an apple, even halves before recording. I wash it down with water. The salivary glands then provide adequate hydration themselves. So, the résumé: the most universal is water and of course... the musical illustration under which you record - it will effectively drown out all those little shooting devils! ;D All the best! Filip

Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes, drinking coffee is counterproductive to fixing mouth noise. I was actually drinking it so I would have more mouth noise for the start of the video. Water and apples can help, many VO's swear by it. Good luck with the wrigleys, and thanks for watching!
I'll buy gum tomorrow. I have a lot of hope here. And I also have the clicky nose thing. I really this is going to work ! Thanks from France !

I have that nasal click, too! It drives me crazy. I've found that hot peppermint tea (only peppermint, not other types) helps with the issue temporarily. I'll try the gum as well! Maybe it's something about peppermint, specifically, that helps.

i have the same issues and my secret weapon is a sip of a light diet soda! I have my bottle of water to keep hydrated and that diet clear soda and just take a sip of the soda every 5-10 minutes and I'm golden. I figure it's the artificial sweeteners keeping my mouth moist or something - the same thing is probably happening with your gum.

+1 for the TLM103 being a noise catcher. That's why I'm here. 🤣 Thinking about looking at the RE20. AND I have a click in my ear that happens at the end of sentences that the mic totally picks up!

@@creatorsvillage Currently I have found that being hydrated *seems to help with the ear click...? Maybe? Not 100% sure on that one. If it gets really bad I may sometimes put on some closed back headphones to keep the sound from getting into the mic. I also offset the mic to my left a little bit so my right ear isn't as on-axis.
Ive been dreading putting out any voice auditions because of all the clicks I cant seem to get out. I'll give it a try as soon as I can!

Good luck, I'm testing out a new solution for mouth noise very soon.
I did what you said and my mouth noises are worse now. What did I do wrong?
You drink coffee? You are my stuntman of sound!
Interesting tip about the gum. I believe it is sweetened with Xylitol, so if you have a dog or cat, be very careful. It is highly toxic to them - even worse then chocolate. And it doesn't take much to do lethal damage. 😥
1:20 Back in ancient Greece they used a program called izotope rx 10 to deal with those pesky mouth sounds
Biosteel in water helps a lot too.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I was told about the green apples but I'm going to try that gum.

Do you have any specific vocal warm-upa you recommend? I've just started narrating (on another channel) and I normally have a deep voice, but I swear whenever I go to record I my voice is always more dry and raspy and I don't know what to do.
@creatorsvillage

Yes! This week I have a video coming out where I share one of my secret vocal warmup sources! Stay Tuned!
I do vocal warm ups before I record but my mouth would go dry anyway as I had a problem with my teeth and needed braces on the top row of my teeth and before the braces alot of my words would come out wrong for example If I'm trying to sasy sound it would come out like Souns or something like that so I would spend hours re-recording and agitating my mouth and some one who has sickle cell that was not a very good combo

Hello, I have a giant bottle of water, im chewing gum and i have a decliker installed and there is a bunch of mouth noise the WHOLE way through my recording, Do you have any other advise?
i live in germany, don't expect to find even anything close. anything to keep in mind for choosing gum, other than it being pepermint? i barely eat it, mostly due to sugar, but i am way too intrigued.
@creatorsvillage

This gum is sugar free, it uses Xylitol. That may be a factor, I wish I knew more. But I can say I have noticed that this gum seems to work the best. It took some experimenting to figure it out. Good luck!
I was making a subliminal and ofc the problem is masked, but as I started recording a hypnosis/relaxation audio, started noticing a little saliva click under my tongue, lol. So annoying.
ok. I am going to try it. We will see what happens with the icebreakers
@creatorsvillage

Good luck, but remember to take the gum out before you start speaking!
WOW ! You are the first person I meet that has the noseclick as well. I just noticed this. Everytime I say a word like SKI or KNEE I can hear the click. It is not coming from my jaw or mouth but actually in my ear. I have had an ENT look at it, and using the scope she says she sees what is happening but there is not much that can be done about it. During the night I get a click when I breath thru my noise. This is really annoying me. Do you feel other people can hear your nasal clicks? Does the gum remove the nasal click as well?
@creatorsvillage
2 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone else notices, but it's really annoying when i'm working. Yes, the gum helps a bit. But I really manage it by breathing through the ends of my words a bit, and I changed my microphone. The 416 really picks it up, but my KSM 32 isn't as sensitive. Also, izotope elements has a great de-clicker plug in that catches any that make it through.
@DennisvanLeeuwen

@@creatorsvillage yes I did get RX Elements on sale last week for $29,00. Does the click annoy you during your daily life? I will try your 'breathe-thru' tip.
Breath Right Nasal strips should help with the nasal clicks.
Is there a way to get the iZotope mouth decliker without the rest of the $350 software package it comes in?

Yep. Look up either George Whittiam, or the VO tech Guru, or Uncle Roy.
Checked the comments but still haven't seen this. The reason why the icebreakers work is because it contains Xylitol, which is used to treat dry mouth. Careful with the caffeine too, caffeine tends to cause or exacerbate dry mouth.
